I wonder if any games today will run on the PC/OS of the future. You will have to save a PC in dry storage somewhere. ha-ha
I'm also betting that video gaming in the future will make today's games look like Atari 2600. "geeze grandpa... you can't even smell the napalm or feel the blasts from the explosions!"
I seriously doubt too many games out today are going to interest kids in 40-50 years. By that time most of the games today are hopefully simplistic and are played mostly for nostalgic reasons (such as NES-games today).
To the one that said "Crysis". The game is a technological marvel by todays standards, but don't you think that this game will be quite dated in 3-4 years? Graphics and gameplay wise, just like FarCry.

The game? Yeah. The engine? No way. The Crytek2 engine wont even hit it's stride for another 3-4 years. Wait til the crysis mods and expansions start rolling out. You think valve did a bunch of graphical improvements from hl2 to episode 2? yowza!
I plan to save my entire collection. I hope my PC still works in 40 years (though mayeb we will have "Windows XP emulators", lol). Id sure be pleased to be able to play these games in the future.
For my grandchildren, they will sure get a taste of 20th-21st century entertainment.
This reminds me of Back to the Future, part 2 (the scene in the bar were 2 kids are trying to turn on one of those old light-gun arcades, and when Michael Fox shows them how to use it, they say "YOU HAVE TO USE YOUR HANDS?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!")

Exactly! Don't you just love to laugh at the revolutionary Atari 2600 graphics? :D

Well, that's hopefully true. It will be interesting to see what other devs can do with this engine.

Bahahaha that's exactly what I was thinking! By the time I'm a grandparent, virtual reality-esque stuff will prolly be quite common in regular homes.
counter-strike

I really want to see a grandad scream "BOOM! HEADSHOT!" like Doug from Pure Pwnage.
I'm surprised no one has commented on this aspect this yet...
Most of the time, I think your spoiled bratty grandkids won't really care what you have to say about what gaming was like in the "good ole days". I mean, do you even listen to *your* own grandparents that much when they tell you how hard they had it? (for example: "When I was your age, we didn't even have video games. All we had back then to keep us entertained was staring contests, thumb wrestling, and building forts with couch cushions. And we had to walk uphill in the snow...")
And if your grandkids do appear to be interested in hearing your same worn-out stories about how you had to drive 10 miles to the store to by your games (both ways!), most likely they're just humoring you and hope you'll need to take a nap soon so they can get back to playing their modern-day games.
Kind of sad to think about, but true. :(
So I think you should save your grandkids some grief. Just let them enjoy their modern-day games without your commentary onwhat it was like in the good ole days. And maybe you can share your stories about how "back in the day" you used to pwn noobs in counter-strike, but only if they ask.

Nah I think that only applies in Europe and America
I don't get rid of games, so, all of them. Well, okay, all of them except for Nitro Family. As far as I'm concerned, my purchase of it never happened.
Deus Ex
The Hitman series
C&C series
Halflife series
Homeworld series
Independence War 2 (since the genre will be extinct by then :? )
Neverwinter Nights series
KOTOR 1 and 2

That's fairly accurate. Do you find any interest in the 2600 now? If so it's most likely either nostalgia because you used to play it or for shock appeal (OMFG, look how lame games used to be!!!). Your grandchildren are not going to be the slightest bit interested in our games.

Well some old games are actually fun to play. even without the nostalgia. Transport Tycoon Delux is one of them, also Monkey island or Moonstone, Age of empires. also the old Super Mario games are still fun. If we go a little further up in time HL, Deus Ex, Baldurs gate etc etc etc are still good games. Imo a game doesnt get bad just because its old and have "bad" graphic. Some of the old games are of course way to simple to be fun, but i can find many modern games that are also very simple and bad. Diablo 2 is a very old game with BAD graphic, yet ppl still play it. I also think the reason we now think the C64 games are so bad is because they were so incredible simple in every way. If we jump up to the Amiga era/nes/snes the games are 100 times better than the Atari2600/C64 games.
None, I dont want my grandchildren to point and laugh at me... It would be like your grandfather coming to you with a game of Pacman and hailing it as the pinnacle of gaming and that game is only 30 years old...Philmon
I would respect him. Pacman was the pinnacle of gaming 30 years ago and a classic. Pacman is a game everyone should remember still after 100 years.
