Well I'll try it out and see how I like it, but I don't see myself getting it straight away, Windows 7 was something of a sweet spot, and am very comfortable with it at the moment, unlike when I had vista I just wanted to get off it and pretty much stuck with Windows 7 since the beta and RC came out :P. Even the Win7 beta was better than Vista lol.

This. Windows 8 doesn't seem all that "new" for me to be interested.

Still using Vista x64 with no problems...it runs great.... Also have a sealed copy of Win 7 still sitting in the closet with no need to use it till I decide to build a new system.

FelipeInside
me too Vista 64 Ultimate still going strong, always have been stable and runs every game great.

Vista 64 with the latest patches and service packs runs OK, but you think that until you really try out Win7 64 and realize how unstable Vista was...

I have this same feeling, thats why I have ordered Windows 7 64 bit, its still in the package, since Vista has been running smoothly I am in no rush install Windows 7, infact I might just wait until I build me another PC later this year before I install Windows 7, ill skip Windows 8 for now.

Good Plan. If Vista isn't causing u any problems, then stick with it until u need to reinstall or a new build. I just hated Vista for all that HDD use, the HDD light never turns off....they sort of fixed it with patches.

It's not nearly as bad as everyone is saying it is. Man up and grow a pair, stop feeling sorry/helpless and actually learn how to use the damn thing. You hardly even have to use metro and once you learn to customize it its really not bad at all. There's also a power user start menu that few people know about that they can customize to suit your needs. Windows Key + X or right click on the start tile that comes up after moving to the lower left corner.

I have a friend who is using Win8 and he loves it. The INSTANT search available anywhere makes the Metro Menu or the Classic Start Menu irrelevant he says...

XP isn't going to be supported for ever. You're going to have to get Windows 8 or 9 at some point..

Or upgrade to 7, and be set for another 10+ years! lol

Actually as it stands at SP1, MS will support it only until 2020......only up to 8 years from now.

First microsoft tried to put a desktop UI on tablets and that didn't work well.

Then microsoft is trying to put a tablet UI on desktops, that will end up not going well.

Microsoft needs: 1 Desktop UI, 1 Tablet UI

Why can't they understand that the same interface isn't appropriate for all platforms?

They are merging all the OS into all the platforms, and thru skydrive syncing all ur documents and settings. If they pull it off they will be the first company to accomplish it and will make the iPhone and iPad look dumb in comparison. U can still boot Win8 with the normal desktop mode if u don't like Metro.

That is the problem. Microsoft doesn't understand that different platforms require different OSes. They don't have to be the same in order to work together.

I'm fine with 7 currenlty, which I have Windows 7 Professional(64bit). It runs great, especially compared to Vista, so I'll stick with it for now. I may migrate to 8, but not right out the gate.

I stuck with XP for a while cause it worked, no reason to change. Switched to Win7 in Summer of 2010 since I upgraded some major components and usually re-format my PC when I do that. It's been running solid with no problems. Upgrading again this summer, but will probably stick witn Win 7. Could care less for the over-simplified layout of Win 8, plus win 7 runs solid as ever.

Windows 3.11 = Good

Windows 95 = Garbage

Windows 98 = Good

Windows ME = Garbage

Windows XP = Good

Windows Vista = Garbage

Windows 7 = Good

Windows 8=?

I agree with you a 100%, I am waiting to see once its released, but as your pattern reveals there is a good chance Windows 8 may flop. Honestly though I am so partial to Window 7 X64, I don't see any real need to have it, unless I have too.

Pretty much this. No reason to upgrade until windows 9 IMO

Name one thing microsoft did that was good for consumers and not microsoft.

What do you mean? no company will do something only good for consumers that are bad for the company, WTF are you talking about? MS lately have brought out Win7, which is the next XP and fixed the mess which was Vista. They have brought out a new Mobile OS which does things better than iPhone and Android. It just needs the hype now. They offer one of the best cloud storage plans on the market, which autosyncs to Windows Phone. Even before this, old users get 25GB for free, 5 times more than any other free service. Their new OS (Win8) will auto cloud sync with Tablet, Desktop, Laptops and Mobile Phones. Is that what you meant?

vista wasn't even a mess, it was all third party software that ruined it.

I agree with you on that about Vista....the lack of 3rd party driver support was a mess in the beginning of Vista's life cycle. But give MS credit, once they developed SP 1 & 2, things calmed down quite a bit and Vista actually became very stable like it was intended to from the start. The only real issue that I see it's still plagued with, is that is does take a lot to run it on one's PC as compared to W7 where the system requirements are not nearly as steep.

As it's been said many times before, W7 is really the refined version that Vista was intended to be. I know this thread is about who is upgrading to W8, but I just had to throw my 2 cents in about all the Vista haters that don't really know what they are hating on about Vista. And trust me, I was really upset in the beginning along with most others also.

Have to say my interest is peaked about MS new mobile OS. I hav an old iPnone and just renewed my service contract with AT&T a short while ago. I upgraded my wifes phone to a iPhone 4 but haven't upgraded mine yet...I think I'll be taking a closer look at what MS is offering.

I agree I believe Windows 8 is completely targeted at the tablet market, with friendly apps and interface drivers for other smart devices, "can you say "bloatware?" (None for me please, I'm driving Windows 7)

I'll wait for Win 9. Win 8 seems to be tailored more for tabs and other mobile hardware out there. It doesn't really add much more for me at this time as if you know what you're doing with Win 7, there isn't anything really new 8 is going to offer. I've got my own cloud going, Win 7's got a ton of great networking options that make sharing a snap, and the sheer amount of "utilities for anything" that can be found online make Win 8 a pass for me. It'll be good for the average users out there, but Windows 7 was really made for your computer, and has a ton of life left in it. I wouldn't be surprised if people waited for Wind-X (I can't wait for people to start saying stuff like, clean your computers with Wind-X!)

And?

ARM devices need to run perfectly cause they are used in important situations, so I don't see the problem with MS being tight with security and stability for browsers.

They might allow it later on but it's not like MS have said FIREFOX WILL NOT RUN IN WINDOWS 8.

FelipeInside

Implying if IE is more secure and stable than othe browsers.

(it's not)

I didn't mean that, although IE9 (and the new IE10) have gotten great reviews in terms of performance and security. I think MS just want to make sure their ARM devices work optimally.

I stayed with XP until Vista had been out about a yr. Then I used Vista until 7 had been out a year. I tend to wait about that long until the newer OS has substantial game support. If I didn't play games I'd more than likely be an exclusive Ubuntu user.
