I see everybody says GTX 580 is not that much better than GTX 570 and thus is a complete waste of money. I guess you people havent really seen some DX11 benchmarks then...

GTX 580 is about 20% faster than GTX 570 in those games, it is about 40% more expensive but that always happen in high end. It is quite obvious the gap is greater between the 2 in DX11 games so it's only going to get wider with time as more games utilize DX11. What more do you want than 20%?:?

In contrast the 6970 is ONLY 50% faster than 6850 in metro and the price difference between the 2 cards is 100%. This gives us pretty much the same decrease in price performance as we had with GTX 570 and 580.

It seems to me that anything above GTX 460 1GB and 6870 starts giving pretty bad price performance right now but why does only the 580 get the flack? It actually shows some serious DX11 muscle and manages to separate itself from the pack.

I'm ordering one in a few days , the 10-15 fps or even higher in some cases games like bc2 is worth it to me at least. Alot of people say well the gtx 570 can reach the speeds of the 580 oc'ed yet they look past the fact the 580 overclocks pretty well also.

I don't really see much hate towards it. But it's definitely not worth the money. I'd much rather get CF 6950. Same price, much better performance.

Nah... if I was gonna spend the money, I would always go for the single GPU then any crossfire or sLI.. Way less problems.

I have an HD 5870 and I run Metro 2033 1920x1080p, very high, tessellation on, Dx11 AAA and I get 25 fps.

That benchmark looks bull.

I've never used multi GPU, so I have little knowledge of the issues with it. But, it sacrificing this kind of performance increase (that's a pretty big difference for the same price:o) really worth it to relieve yourself of multi GPU related problems?

It's NOT the same price. GTX 560 SLI requires a beefier PSU and a dual slot mobo. Plus you better have a casing that is way above average.

I havent been following the trends lately but I remember that SLI and CF used to have poor support when a big game launched and people had to wait to get the right performance. Plus I would really have to see this "micro-stuttering" thing in motion to really decide for myself on this issue....

560 SLI? I'm talking about 6950.

As you can see in that link, 6950 CF uses only 20w more power than GTX 580 at full load.

Also, if you're using that much GPU power and your mobo doesn't have multiple PCI-E x16 slots, you're doing something wrong.

Because my 470s are 20-30% stronger (last I remember checking) for the price of a 570.

Doing my own math I get the average gain from GTX 570 to GTX 580 to be aroung 17%, whereas the price difference for cheapest cards on Newegg is 46%. That gives a price/performance of 2.7 times that. Sure if money is not a problem then get the best, but most people economising in some way and could probably find a better way of spending those $150. As for HD 6970, I'd say it's pretty much the same, the performance gap to HD 6950 is a bit weak for the price difference.

The reason that you see people talking mostly against GTX 580 is probably that it's what people who think they want the best of the best are most likely to choose, HD 6970 simply doesn't get a lot of attention.

And I completely agree with you about dual card setups, the performance when it does work ain't worth the hassle when it doesn't.

What hate?

They don't recommend it because it's expensive but still it's the fastest single GPU on the market.

The place where the GTX 580 really shines if you want to build the fastest computer on the planet and go with four of these in SLI with waterblocks. No other configuration will touch that.

I only used it because it's metro 2033, no single card can max it at high resolution. I only used it to demonstarte the performance difference between the cards, it's not like the gap will become narrower between GTX 580 and 570 in higher res.:?

The main reason we hate the GTX 580 is so we can get the GPU manufacturers to charge less for their high end products and give us a better deal. If you own stock in Nvidia by all means keep supporting their higher prices. The rest of us don't want to spend ridiculous amounts of cash for insignificant gains.

Actually the relative difference is usually lower at lower resolutions since they are less GPU bound.

Well, it could be true if he dremeled the backplate and plugged them in an SR-2 or something. Not exactly for gaming though. Probably for a folding farm or something.

No the difference remains exactly the same in 19x12 and increases in 25x16. You can go look at the benchmarks yourself!!

It just uses too much power and is only a little faster than a 570. I rather overclock the more efficient 570 for less money. Although, this generation of video cards are a disappoinment for me. :(

who pays $500 for a video card?? Obviously its a beast but most people can not afford one unless they go without eating for a while. It is only for the well off people and above or those who have no responsibilities...ie teenagers living at home with their parents who spend half their monthly income on a video card and get away with it.

Building PCs/video gaming is a hobby. Hobbyists will put the money they want into their hobby to have the best experience they can. I'm not saying I agree with the 580's price, since I believe it should be lower, but you can't really fault people for wanting to spend their money on something that interests them.

Theres nothing wrong with the 580 but people generally dont need all that performance, and not everyone has that much amount of money to spend on a GPU, if I had the money i would buy it but for the average joe its not cost effective.

No issues so far with GTX 460 sli. But yeah, single GPUs are usually the way to go because some games don't even support sli. And some don't support sli at certain resolutions. So far, I'm pretty satisfied with my setup. No issues so far. Both cards for a little under $400.

Nah... if I was gonna spend the money, I would always go for the single GPU then any crossfire or sLI.. Way less problems.

No issues so far with GTX 460 sli. But yeah, single GPUs are usually the way to go because some games don't even support sli. And some don't support sli at certain resolutions. So far, I'm pretty satisfied with my setup. No issues so far. Both cards for a little under $400.

Pretty much the same here. I'm rather pleased with my 460s but I'm probably going high end single GPU next time because it is less hassle even if SLI it's hard to use in general.

Haven't had a single problem in any game with my 275s in SLI for almost 2 years now, ran everything from BGII to latest games without stutter or lag or nothin' (that's why I'm going 580 SLI this week)

Probably the price, from what I've seen it looks great, and SLI them and you're in heaven.

Have 1 and your in heaven, have two and you better be playing at 2560

I'm happy with my sli i paid 330 for pretty much what a single card would cost 500+

I don't hate the GTX 580, I just don't think it's worth it for $500. The 570 and 6970 provide plenty of performance in the games that you posted, and OVERALL the 580 is only 8-12% faster. Sure, you can find specific instances where the 580 is around 20% faster. Hell, you can overclock (or buy a pre-OC'd version) of the GTX 560 Ti that will give you 90%+ of the 580's overall performance for less than $300. I just don't see the value.

For me, its just the cost of the GTX580. In the UK its like 400 pounds which is a hell of a lot just for a graphics card. I spent nearly 300 pounds on my GTX 570 and I feel like ive overspent, not because im unhappy with its performance, but just the amount of money I spent. With that said though, I would be saving money in the long run, since I wont be needing to upgrade for a long while, 2 years at least.

if you use a 580 or 590, you best be using a 30'' monitor or perhaps dual 30'' monitors. Most people don't need that much juice. I remember back in '06 when I jumped on the 8800 GTX bandwagon and blew $500 on that thing that barely lasted a year before much better stuff was out. Then I picked up a 4870 1gb for $120 and couldn't be happier. Nothing has strained it yet

GTX 580 is about 20% faster than GTX 570 in those games, it is about 40% more expensive
