Why Do ppl Use Cheats In MultyPlayer Games?

So many ppl use 'hacks' and its realy pissing me off. Is like you cant realy enjoy a game older then 3 months because then ppl start cheating. Now i wouldnt mind buying a new game every 3 or so months but good games are hard to come buy in the First Person Shooter,

I bought UT3 Crysis COD4 when they came out. And in Cod4 i was totally owning at first ,With in hour of game play i was with in the top 4 score of the server and stayed there on any COD 4 server from release date for 2-3 weeks later, I was really dominating, then i stop playing it and gave crysis ago ...with in 1 day of realsed date ppl are cheating in crysis ( I searched for cheats for crysis and a site said there releasing them on launch day) So i go play crysis and 1/2 the server was full of 200 pingers geting sniper head shots while i was running tubo mode, They totaly ****ed a great game,And now there is a couple of cheats in my UT3 Australian servers, Its the only game i realy enjoy now other then TeamFortress 2

Dont get me started on CSS i bought it about 6 months ago , anti flash hacks, wall hackes and aimbots its so bloody anoying ,and when i tell them i know you hack they just call me a noob and say some bs ,Now i even tryed some CSS hacks just so i could know what i was looking for (And i would never do it again) ,and when i tested a cheat you could just tell so many ppl of the other team were watching you through walls and i thought holy crap it must be like 85% of all CCS players in australia use bloody hacks ,anyway ive long since deleted them and i only play that zombie madness on CSS now,

Ok enough of me ranting, lets hear your cheater storys.

Did you go on STEAM VAC servers? I really doubt you'd find a lot of hackers around there, besides don't forget there is such a thing as sound. I get called a hacker by just about everyone just because I can anticipate were someone will walk to.

#1: I think people falsely accuse people of using hacks way too often. Especially in CS:S

Steam pretty much eliminates all hacks on servers that choose to be secure. And alot of times people confuse old CS skills, like plugging in a set of headphones and listning to footsteps, as hacking. It's easy to detect hacks and secure servers will catch them 99% of the time. If you are playing on unsecure servers, change that practice

Out of all the years I've played CSS, I've only encountered 3 hackers and only 1 of them was hard to detect. Remember that some people use Team Speak!

I play BF2 and have 290 hours under my belt. I have only ever come across two hackers. But I have certainly heard people falsly accuse others many times.

The first hacker had 40 kills 6 deaths in a round as a sniper in an infantry only server (he topped scored too). I notice that as soon as I moved around a corner he was not looking at me and then suddenly bam headshot and I was dead. He got another 3 headshots at me although I did kill him. I googled his username and found it was linked to a site that sold aimbots for BF2.

The second guy it was pretty obvious, he had 28 kills 2 deaths in infantry only as a lower ranking soldier. It become apparent he had a wallhack since he was able to shoot my perfectly through tin fences even though I moved around and there was no UAV or other soldiers about. Of course he still lacked brains and fell into my claymore trap I made for him :)

Remember i am talking about Australian servers,

Look if you dont believe me so be it. But i know a lot of Australians cheat in CSS

eg. I was watching ppl throw flash bangs in rooms then charging in and only been blinded for 2sec while the none cheaters were blinded for like 5sec

Its just they have been cheating for a while and they learn how to hide it.

Cheaters have no skills so they cheat because they think it makes them look good. It's all about the winning and they don't care how they win.

I've been accused of cheating a few times while playing COD4, I wasn't of course but sometimes mistakes are made.

The only game I play on pubs these days is Team Fortress 2. I've never seen anyone I thought was cheating, and I've never been accused of cheating - even when I'm totally untouchable and sitting on a 6:1 K/D ratio. The TF2 community seems pretty mellow, at least on the servers I play on. I like them a lot.

I once hacked Call of Duty 1. A full server, with 64 people playing in a wide open map. Hold that aimbot key down, as well as the trigger, and you've got a great night ahead of you :D

On top of that, the admin wasn't even there so nobody could kick or ban me. What's more is, there was no vote option so I couldn't be kicked by the players.

What's funny is, only a few players actually complained. The most of them actually defended me, telling the others to shut up just because "I'm better than they are". :D good fun...good fun.

TF2 has an excellent community I agree, but it's also one of the first games where using hacks is just plain stupid. It's either very easy to trace or completely useless.

Yes, if you want to see cheating, just go play Crysis multiplayer. I'll give a list of the cheats and hacks I've observed people pull off in that game:

1. I've seen people flying. Yes literally walking around in the air above other players and above the buildings.

2. People jumping from one side of the map to the other side. Strength is great, but it's not that great.

3. I think it's called an aimbot, but I've been shot once by a pistol and killed, despite having 100% health (just looked it up, it's called a one shot one kill hack). The worst that's ever happened to me, was getting head-shotted and killed instantly by a shotgun from a mile away (not literally but it was very far away). Trust me the shotgun is not that effective in Crysis multiplayer (or any multiplayer)

4. Smg's which shoot ice. I've been frozen and subsequently killed by one of these.

5. I once tried to shoot someone who was crouched. The problem was, after I shot one bullet, he took off, still in the crouch position, at a speed which was barely viewable. I've read about other people seeing this hack, and it's meant to be a hack which allows one to move at light speed. Trying to shoot a man, who was crouched at moving at light speed was not fun.

6. I've seen people turn literally invisible (by watching as spectator). I'm not talking cloak, which is still visible, but actually invisible. You cannot see them at all (apart from their shadow).

7. People with unlimited nukes literally flattening a level and everything within it (as well as people doing the aforementioned flying, and shooting unlimited nukes down below).

8. People moving through walls.

9. I've seen people teleport from one location to another. In one gun fight a guy in front of me teleported and appeared behind me, subsequently killing me.

10. There are other more minor mundane hacks such as all weapons, unlimited ammo, run faster and many others. Just type in crysis hacks in google and you'll find them.

Honestly it is sooo annoying and just unfair. I can understand the fun of doing it the first or second time, but in Crysis multiplayer there are actually groups of people (always the same people as well) who every night, come onto the servers, with the main aim of hacking, cheating and generally ruining multiplayer for everone. I don't get the mentality of these people. Surely you have more of a life, than getting a kick out of cheating your way to victory on an online game. Punkbuster does nothing, and Crytek haven't fixed the problem. I actually really like Crysis multiplayer, but my patience is thinning. Anyway sorry for the long and rather ranting post. I think i'll go take a long and refreshing shower.

A wall-hack makes walls transparent so you can see through them.

The cheaters ruin their own game experience more than others.

If anything, they helped me get better at prefiring and shooting through walls.

I don't play CS:S anymore because I'm tired of the aimbot-ing and wall hacks, among other things. The server I used to play on (VAC and everything) would get at least one a week, and because admins were only on rarely it would be unplayable there for hours. Heck, joining a game on the third round of a map and seeing someone 36-2 was usually enough of a tip-off that I wouldn't be playing CounterStrike that day.

First of all, I don't quit right away when someone is cheating. They may very well not be aimbotting or wallhacking, they could have landed a few flukes. In the case of mister 36-2, there's no point getting angry because he's just a dip**** who has no clue how to play the game. Just disconnect from the server if you can't find an admin, and find another server out of the 1000's available. But why quit playing CS for the day? No point letting some nimrod ruin your day, cheer up a bit.

Heck, if you step up your game and try and defeat the cheaters, you'll get really good at the game. Maybe some day you'll get falsly accused of cheating and feel a sense of achievement and wisdom.

To the OT:

People use cheats in online gaming because they're sad, uneducated, ignorant little punks in a hurry who don't even know what gaming is about.

I hope this helps :)

The Germans know why. They have a word for it. The word is Schadenfreude. Satisfaction or pleasure felt at someone else's misfortune.

mfsa

I used to cheat in multiplayer games, and that's why. Nothing is more enjoyable then ruining other people's time. It's even better when you can get away with it, with them not knowing. I'd probably still hack if they didn't make the punishment equivelent to taking away your game.

Why is that, though? How do you get a kick out of a bunch of people you don't know literally despising you? I mean, even if you don't believe in good and bad energies and all that, even then it sounds completely retarded to me.

And neither VAC nor PB "eliminate" hacks as someone said here. And 40 and 2 as a sniper on IO map is not necessarily a hack. A hack is when someone gets 70 kills shooting a pkm from his hip.

70% of people playing were hacking? That's bs and you know it. You just can't see a good player when he is infront of you. You're just frustrated because you can't get kills in games and you are taking an easy route out by accusing 70% of people of hacking. You need to grow up.

I have only seen ONE hacker in CS:S, and none in TF2.

The hacker in CS:S had an aimbot.

I left and joined another server.

And keep in mind my Steam account was made 10th September 2003 - before the launch. I have played CS:S on and off from the first public beta/prerelease thing. And I have played TF2 from preorder launch.

Tip 1 - Learn to use sound.

Tip 2 - Guns can shoot through walls.

Tip 3 - People can see your gun poking out behind a wall and use Tip 2 to kill you.

People are quick to blame h4x when they get pwned by someone better than them.

Cheating in MP is the most sutpid thing you can do. You'll never get any good at the game and everybody will hate you... sounds like a lose - lose situation I rarely play MP, but in Stalker you'd often find super fast flying people. Whenever I saw one I just shouted "CHEATER!", then found another server

My little brother cheats to win.

I would never cheat myself and losing to a cheat is hardly bothering me, winning against someone who cheat make my day.

Any discussion to make my little bro stop cheating is...useless. I rather entertain hopes of convincing Brad that raiding is a mistake, or Mythic that they have to make a full PvE server, at least, there is SOME measure of hope here, as they are semi-rational peoples and their motivation is money, and if they can understand my point... My little bro, he only cares to wins. Everything else, including long-term enjoyment, is completely useless and wasted on him. He will just throw the game down and switch to another game to re-start cheating and finding new ways to wins, outside of the book.

You won't change the nature of the humans. I know my little bro is cheating in any game he can, and he always will. This is just something you have to accept, and either play with him...or not.

On the side notes...it is cool to see what a cheater does, first hand...like playing online chess games with a chess program running in the background...so his victories are the chess programs in the background victories...but...well...entertaining to watch. When he wins, he still have a lose screen (from the program in the background, as he reproduce his enemy moves there, and reproduce the computer move against the human player), yet, he is happy like *censored*...LOL.

As of late in TF2, the only unsavory element I have seen was some players map glitching where they would go to acertain area to get on top of a building, but end up at one point actaully hovering over any point in the map. When the admin caught the guy glitching the map, it was absolutely priceless.

I have been playing CS since 1999 and I can tell you that the hackers are out there in full force. I have played in CAL and CEVO and I have seen it all. I have looked around at the hack websites myself. Project7 is one of the biggest hacks out there right now and it is rampant. Last time I checked each release of Project7 has something in the realm between 50,000 and 75,000 downloads. That is alot of hackers out there. You have to remember that is only 1 hack and there are probably a dozen well known hacks out there. I don't go on servers and just randomly call hacks either. I am ex CAL-I and CEVO-M/P. I have also been on CAL's anti-cheat staff in the past. The realistic number of hackers per server is maybe 1 or 2 in a a sever of 20.

JohnDW

Just out of curiousity, were you running some kind of an aimbot detector to spot that one guy, or did you... you know, "get pwned by someone better?"

I agree with others who've posted that a lot of time if you're decent at a game you get accused of using cheats. Just because you might suck doesn't automatically make everyone who frags you a cheater. On the other hand there are an awfully lot of people who seem to think winning at an online game means life or death apparently. I've always found that using cheats made a game to easy and therefore boring. Then again there are a lot of idiots who play online, something that kills the fun in most online games.

The Germans know why. They have a word for it. The word is Schadenfreude. Satisfaction or pleasure felt at someone else's misfortune.

TryDaBeardON

Because it's hilarious. I've probably never had more laughs. A lot of people here are simply ignorant. They think "wow they suck so they have to hack" or whatever. It's not true. Hacks or not, I could probably beat everyone here in Counter-Strike blind-folded. I get acccused if I hack or not. Don't really care. I think it's rooted in having an advantage that no one else has, and they don't know you have it. That's the fun part about it. I get better scores when I don't hack simply because I'd rather not get caught.

The same reason MLB players use steriods in baseball. People want to win so they cheat. A lot of people are jerks.

I play CSS and maybe you're just playing in the wrong servers? I play in servers with admins on and stuff and I never have any problems with hackers really...I see one every now and then but I don't care really, they can't ruin a great game for me.

I agree! What kind of a loser would enjoy ruining another guy's day unless they are a complete idiot to begin with? Sadly, they think they have everyone fooled, when really they're only fooling themselves.

I look at it this way, if they want to cheat its their rep on the line, and possibly their own games or PCs as well.

If they DL the wrong hack or cheat they could get a nasty trojan / virus and not only could they lose some information like CD keys, but possibly account info and the what-not. If they get caught cheating / hacking by Punkbuster or VAC not only there goes their account, and the game that may have had hard earned money spent for. In some noted occasions they get their hardware banned like in some PB instances which pretty much ban any game you connect through via PB. So right there is money and time wasted.

I used to be one of those on the anti-cheat crusade during my major Americas Army / Joint Operations days, until I figured I was was outnumbered by the 'tards, and didn't fight them so vocally.

So now whenever I play Battlefield 2, Americas Army, or any game and I see one of those guys punted for a legit incursion, a little part of me gets the last laugh at them. If it ends up they come to the game's or punksbusted forums with a complaint of a hardware ban on a free game, its just gravy for me. Their loss and a good belly laughfor me on their dime.

Pretty sad stuff really. I mean, if I said and meant it that I "never in my life had more laughs" than while using a hack in an online game, I'd probably be pretty upset with myself a little later after I had a chance to think it over. I'd probably end up blaming my parents or education system or maybe TV. But seeing how you follow that up with "I could probably beat everyone *blindfolded*," which makes ZERO sense whatever way you look at it, I'm guessing that either you don't mean things you say, or you don't think about what you say a whole lot.

Whatever the case may be, I'm not one of those who think "wow they suck so they have to hack." Although I'm sure some of those who use scripts get them because of frustration caused by their gaming inaptitude. But most are, in my opinion, decent players, afflicted by some sort of psychological disorder. Hopefully, it'll go away for most over the years.

I've been playing FPS games online for years (probably since about 1998 ), originally I was TFC and CS for a long time, then BF2, now TF2 (for lack of a serious competitive game). I would say the amount of times I see somebody accuse somebody of cheating vs the amount of times they really are is literally in the region of 100:1. I see people get accused all the time, when they're blatently not cheating.

From my experience I find it quite obvious when somebody is, vs somebody who is just good. I get accused of cheating in TF2 quite regularly. I've got a very good eye for spotting enemy spies. This is because I played TFC for about 5 years, which also has spies. I think most of my 'cheat' accusations are down to spies being unable to get past me.

The original poster clearly falls into this category of people that grossly overestimate the amount of cheats around. Some people are just very good. In all my years in gaming, I've probably seen less than 50 cheaters.

I like them a lot.

mfsa

Same, TF2 doesn't seem to have anyone hacking or even wanting to hack. There have been a few glitches that server admins had to be aware of as some players were taking advantage of but they have been fixed right now.

As for hacking in general, people do it because they can. It was one of the reasons why I gave up the majority of my online play. Some people enjoy screwing over other people who are playing fair, some enjoy the high score even if they haven't earned it, and some people just enjoy messing around with hacks to see what they are about. There are no identical reasons for every hacker but people do it and that will never change.

I have seen more than 50 hackers in a month playing and that is just on the servers I play on. CS is the one game that hackers love to target. Hacking has actually gotten so bad that there are actually hacking clans out there that will try to get on legit teams in CAL and then part way through the season they will purposely mess with the team by hacking in a match and making teams get knocked out in CAL. I have no clue how you couldn't see how bad the hacking problem is.
