For me WOTLK was a fail and i know alot of people didn't like it either. I think the entire WOW just became too easy bland and repetitive. Im liking the ideas of Cataclysm so far. Not so much of the tauren paladin etc which is plain stupid. But the entire early WOW being changed will be good fun i think. I can't wait to do heroic DM the old instances were alot more fun to me.

What you think of Cataclysm? Make or break for you?

Same game, new face. Heck, even recycled content. WoW was briliant when it first came up, now, after 6 years the fun and the feeling of innovation and "new cool thingz" is gone. No matter how much new content they beef up, the grinds are still there, the end-game raids and rants are still the same, the frustrations and acomplishments, nothing changed. Now consider that the overall direction of the game is to make it more accessible to everyone, and to balance things close to perfection and you get a game where pretty much everything stays on a fixed course. Catacylsm won't break or make the game for me, it will just be another expansion. Fun for the first levels, fun to quest in for the first time but after a while, bland and mostly repetitive.

Not sure, WotLK wasn't as fun as TBC for me, but that might have been because the game was new to me. Most of the raids in WotLK have been fairly lame, but there was Ulduar... That was a really damn good raid instance.

I also started doing PvP in Wrath, and that was a lot of fun too.

I think Cataclysm does have a chance to shine, so many things are being changed, it's really hard to tell at this point.

Its not so much Cataclysm, as it is The Old Republic, Torchlight 2 (and mmo), The Secret World. Some of these are not too far off.

These are the main reason Wow means less and less these days, (especially to me)

Make or break.. more like re-make and re-new. They improved a lot from wotlk in mechanics. As far as the core game it has new abilities. Seems to be working for them so far why change it?

well, one of my biggest gripes with mmos was that content was never changed... or removed. for example the first 80% of the game will always be what you played 6 years ago. there are very good reasons but it seems to discourage people from trying new classes or revisit old areas. having said that, there are some altahalocs that cannot be deterred. i have friends who will play WoW when cataclysm comes out, and based on their impressions and whatever is going on in the gaming world and outside if it at that time i will decide whether to play it or not. so far i will give it the benefit of the doubt.

Seems a little interesting, but WotLK was the end for me. I cancelled my account last year and havent looked back. The game is so sad compared to what it used to be. Oh well, I had lots of for about 5 years. Was a main tank in a top 100 guild and we had some epic moments. It still is a good game, but I got burnt out plus it changed a lot since the game first came out.

Just so you know PVP in wrath was terribad comparable to PVP before the honor revamp in how hard it failed. Cataclysm will hopefully fix PVP and the actual possibility for healers to go OOM makes PVE look like it has the good things that vanilla had.

I've been a healer forever, and it's not the mana conserving that bothers me, but the fact that they've reduced the healing value of spells to that of a level 80 in quest greens at level 85... hell, some spells have been nerfed so badly that a level 70 could do better 3 years ago. I really don't know if I want to be the **** of the expansion or just quit once and for all.

Eh I dont agree...the numbers were higher than Halo reach at one point and Cataclysm doesnt even have a RELEASE Date. Wait for Cataclsym to near and you will see huge numbers...The gold farmers alone will keep them going strong.

that is sort of an ignorant statement... because gold farmers dont actually ever pay for accounts or box copies. gold farming companies are notorious for using credit card fraud tactics and work arounds to get accounts/box copies before being charged and then cancelling the order and not actually having to pay anything. they also regularly steal accounts, and resources from players adn thus dont actually pay anything because of that as well. due to these companies usually being in china and korea, blizzard and activision usually cant do anything about it to get the money they have been cheated out of as well.

wow will never break, even if they only had 1 million people playing.

cataclysm will see a heap of players return who quit.

I haven't played in 2 years and don't plan on restarting, there's just too many other games out there that take up my time.

The only thing that makes or breaks a game for you, is what your own personal preferences are towards it.

You will either like to play a game for whatever reason(s) or you're going to hate playing it for whatever reason(s).

WLK was depressingly boring.

There was nothing in it that was as fun as it was during vanilla and TBC.

I doubt guild talents will do any good to solve the PuG raids problem...Cataclysm won't "make or break" WoW, WLK already broke it.

theyre...

...redoing the entire old-world game setting (old Azeroth)

...adding two new races

...complete tweaking the classes and adding new fundamental changes and additions to them

...raising the level cap to 85, raising profession level, adding new profession abilities and patterns, adding guild leveling

...theyre gonna have like 20 new 5-man dungeons, and a few more raids (dont really care, raiding takes too much time)

Basically, no one has a right to complain about this expansion unless you just dont plain like WoW.

1. If you are one of the players that says "Man, old WoW was awesome, I hate the new expansions" well guess what? Here is your chance to reroll not just a new character of the old race (you dont need Cataclysm for that, and it'd be worthwhile to do that anyway) or a new toon of the new race.

Its like...pressing the restart button. You get to experience all this awesome content you fell in love with, but there is also a plethora of new content in old world Azeroth

2. If you liked the expansions, well, here is another good one lol.

imo Cataclysm will be the best thing for WoW since its original release.

Cataclysm will just help WoW exapand. Anyways most people are interested in the refreshed 1-60 experiance which is not part of the Cataclysm expansion. The world will be destroyed probobly next month with the 4.03 patch and thats when we will most likely see huge numbers of players returning to check out how the world was changed.

I'm not sure i can agree with you. if you look at how repetitive the quests are in vanilla wow, then compare it with how varied they are in Wrath, you will see that they did not recycle old content. i've played vanilla wow, just very little, but from what i have heard from other players and community sites, players really seem to be enjoying the newer instances/raids/boss encounters as well. now i know there are some varied quests in the new starting areas (goblins get to test rocket boots in theirs), i haven't been keeping up with cataclysm but i would assume it is the same for all starting areas as well as the rest of eastern kingdoms/kalimdor. now i am not saying cataclysm will be amazing, or that it is something that every player wants, i just strongly believe i will not be saying "90% of this is old content"

You're forgetting that Vanilla had a great advantage over any expansion. It was basically a new game, felt fresh for a pretty long time, even though it was a mindless grindfest with pvp titles that took forever to get and craptastic drop chances in a raid made of 40 guys who all prayed for the other item to drop....fun times :) But anyway, all the bias off, Blizzard did a pretty good job on improving the game from one expansion to the other, the problem is not the lack of inovation itself, but rather that the game is pretty much smoked. It was fun for the first couple of years, then it became repetitive..its normal.

I'm honestly running out of patience waiting for Cataclysm. They keep leaking out newer content that's going to be in-game. Every class is going to be very different, and I'm starting to like the talent builds more. And the old world will FINALLY be taken out come Cataclysm. New, better quests, beautiful music (if you haven't heard some of it, you should), new areas, and new races.

I will most definitely be rolling a Worgen when it comes out.

so that begs the question..... what exactly are you paying for with cataclysm? 2 new races? big Fing deal..... if the majority of the population didnt already have 3-4 80s i would say this was kind of cool... no new hero classes? wtf blizzard.... broken promises.... recycled raid instances? ragnoros is back? we already killed him.... COME ON.... onyxia as well? WHAT THE HELL flying mounts in old world? didnt need them before... why would you need them now? the list just goes on.... to me, cataclysm just looks like a final cash-in expansion before blizzard announces their new MMO.

Your posts in this thread, thus far, have reeked of someone who just doesn't like WoW, period. Have you thought that, maybe, there are some people excited for the new expansion pack? I don't count myself among them because I left WoW 4 years ago. But due to the list of changes, it's easy to see why this exp. pack has a chance to reinvent the old WoW world in a different manner and more features to an already the most polished MMO game on the market.

Blizzard never promised new hero classes. Who told you that? Also, you'll need the expansion pack so you can access the new areas, the 7 new dungeons, 3 new raids, and the new races. Maybe even the new profession and battleground, but that has not been confirmed yet.

I'm probably missing more reasons to get the expansion, but these are the ones I can get off the top of my head.

WoW has already been "made" by vanilla WoW. This will just continue WoW and hold onto its subscribers and maybe bring new ones. It certainly won't "break" WoW though.

5 years later and people are still talking about "making or breaking" WOW. No matter what, WOW will continue on. It has far too large a playerbase at this point. As long as Blizzard continues to support it, people will play it. Seriously, if EQ is still going on (and UO for that matter) then WOW has a long lifespan ahead of it.

its just going to make you self center hobo's shill out more of your money for a game that i wouldnt even classify as a game.. its a slobbery mess, that is shaped into a game. its an MMOSNS (massively multiplayer online social networking system/site)

to quote derrick:

your all addicts.. you need help, and none of you have any friends!!

Haha I woudn't go that far but I think it's already broken too. So many people are bored of it and play this game only because there isn't any competition.

Changes to the classes come with 4.01 so soon and Old World is going bye bye in a few weeks you know, not when the expansion come out.

Roland123_basic

Yes, I know that. I heard that the old world changes and the new race/class combos will come in a patch right before Cataclysm.

so that begs the question..... what exactly are you paying for with cataclysm? 2 new races? big Fing deal..... if the majority of the population didnt already have 3-4 80s i would say this was kind of cool...

Why would it matter? People are going to re roll?

no new hero classes?

Most people think the DK was a mistake class, an unneeded class.. Especially when it starts at level 55..

wtf blizzard.... broken promises.... recycled raid instances? ragnoros is back?

...........Revamped and based on what we know completely different.. This is awesome.. As a veteran mmo player I love to see this because the typical plan for all mmos seems to make a few new extra content.. And completely forgets old content.. So a large amount of the game feels highly outdated compared to the fraction of the new content..

we already killed him.... COME ON.... onyxia as well?

....... Whats wrong with this, they made a instance that no one ran in years into something to be gone through again?

WHAT THE HELL flying mounts in old world? didnt need them before...

...........How in the heck do you know they are changing the game.. And flying mounts imo is awesome all around for the old content..

why would you need them now?

Because they are compeltely changing the majority of the old contients? :|

the list just goes on....to me, cataclysm just looks like a final cash-in expansion before blizzard announces their new MMO.

WoW has already been "made" by vanilla WoW. This will just continue WoW and hold onto its subscribers and maybe bring new ones. It certainly won't "break" WoW though.Elann2008

If anything this will add more new subs then any other expansion they have released for the game.. Because of its massive and new changes the people will instantly being able to dive into.. While the vast majority of content provided by BC and WOTLK were mainly end game content.. I am excited for this, because as some one who has played mmos since EQ1 I got really sick of the typical expansion pack plan.. Release a ton of content but not do anythign with old content.. So large parts of the game pretty much disappear due to becoming outdated and useless.. WoW had the same problem with some really great instances that no one bothered running any more such as Strath..

Blizzard never promised new hero classes. Who told you that? Also, you'll need the expansion pack so you can access the new areas, the 7 new dungeons, 3 new raids, and the new races. Maybe even the new profession and battleground, but that has not been confirmed yet.

I'm probably missing more reasons to get the expansion, but these are the ones I can get off the top of my head.

there is a faq on their main website that says they have been working on implementing new heroes classes since day 1...... perhaps research?

MetaKnight117

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/faq/classes.html

it USED to be on that page.... which apparently has been altered since WOTLK launched according to forum posts on the official forums. under "Will there be ever more classes added to World of Warcraft?" it used to have a quick blurb about blizzard working on implementing several hero classes in the future. apparently they have since decided to completely abandon this because, for lack of a better reason that i can see, it is too much work.

also here: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/wrath/faq.xml#1_5

it specifically states that they plan on adding more in the future. that just doesnt seem to be the case honestly...

When they say they will add new hero classes, I always thought they would do it in some sort of pattern, like one expansion with 2 new races, next a new class, the next with more races, and another with another new class. They may be following that pattern, but we don't know entirely for sure until they decide a new expansion. Or, they may possibly be bailing the hero classes since much QQ nuked Blizzard when the Death Knights came out for being overpowered.

I haven't even been on the WoW website in a couple years; and this is coming from a player who was there from beta. I feel as though the game, no matter how many patches, updates or expansions, stays in a constant....it never changes.

I think this expansion will be the end of WOW. I am not sure why we would need another after this. In fact people don't see the mmorpg genre dieing but I can see people giving up on playing these games for awhile.

DeViLzzz
I see a WoW2 of some sort coming along and reclaiming my social life....but not for another couple years (or Diablo 3).
