With the disapointment of DA2 i wonder if masse effect 3 will get the same "simplify" the game treatment?

I really lov mass effect 2 and tought it was one of the best game i have ever played but seeing that Bioware seems to want to take the easy way out now with their games i just hope it does not end up in another disaster.

I could go on and on and on and most people here have seen similar threads and most of us know the facts....

speculate...

If there is still an awesome story, and interesting characters and cool space battles and cut scenes it will be just fine. Since it's made by bioware I will assume those things will happen.

I hope it is great, as I just got 1 and 2 and need to playthrough them, which will lead me to buy 3 if I like them.

I don't think they will mess up after ME2 was so awesome, but there is a rumour there will be multiplayer which is not interesting at all.

bioware is divided up into many studios. it's like nintendo, there are different dev teams for each game, but they work under the same umbrella. dragon age dev team is not the same as mass effect dev team. mass effect dev team actually knows how to make great sequels in my opinion.

I remember seeing alot of people sayign Mass Effect2 was fail because the Mako was gone and it was to simple, and what not. I still enjoyed that game alot.

I expect ME3 to be another good rpg/shooter like the first two were. ME2 made some changes and took some things out but it was still fun, as was DA2 to me (while not as good as origins though).

Until Bioware makes a bad game I will continue to support them. Sure ME2, DA2 are not as good as Baldurs Gate, KOTOR,etc.. but to me they are still alot of fun and on the same level as Jade Empire was (Bit more action then rpg type of deal, which ME2 and DA2 did).

Yes I wish we had more hardcore old shcool rpgs, but if I have fun then thats really all that matters in the end to me. ME series has always been just as much a shotoer as it has been an RPG imo, especailly more so with ME2 and some of the things taken out. Still had a blast and really enjoyed the characters/story,etc..

Although when I did hear there was going to be multiplayer in ME3 I was a bit worried, but Ive learned to wait till i play the game to make my mind up about a new feature or something taken away.

Will be awesome. Mass Effect 2 had the benefit of correcting a bunch of things ME1 got wrong, even if it did strip it down some. But regardless, many people think it was a great trade-off because Mass Effect's strengths are more in its action and dialogue, rather than traditional looting and what have you. Might as well strengthen that as much as you can.

But regarding Dragon Age, people thought Origins was a great RPG. The problem is it didn't have glaring ME-like flaws, and the DA team overdid it. They made a fairly competent RPG into an action game.

What do you mean by "simplify"?

Mass Effect was never a hardcore complex RPG to begin with, it was just a normal casual action-RPG.

You are partially right though, Mass Effect 3 will be EPIC....

Yeah, exactly. Not that I didn't enjoy ME1 and to a lesser degree ME2, but it already is about as streamlined and consolized as it gets. I just wish they'd improve upon the conversation and renegade/paragon style actions. I mean.. I have these conversation options to choose, and these actions I can perform.. but it's a goddamn mystery as to what *MY* character will do or say until it's actually done

People need to stop thinking that because a game is more streamlined and more basic than old school RPGs, it's consolized. It has nothing to do with that. The majority of Gamers have changed this generation (notice I said majority), they no longer want long 150 hour RPGs where you have to go through spec after spec after spec and compare things and pause and etc etc etc. I used to love Baldurs Gate type RPGs (hardcore), but that was back then when not many games came out. Now publishers want you to enjoy a game and then move on quickly to their next game ($$$). PERFECT example is the transition between DA1 and Dragon Age 2....

Mass Effect 1 was awsome. Mass Effect 2 is good game. But it was simplied too much and most of the RPG element was removed. It is a good game and still has great characters, though 2nd story was average. Voice acting and chracter animations are amazing. ME 2 combat is more like Gears of War style combat, but not as good.

I dont think Mass Effect 3 will fail. It will be good game, I just hope the story will be better than 2nd one. Maybe improve on combat system of the 2nd game.

They need to strike a balance between streamlining things (ME2) and more in-depth RPG elements (ME1). That would be awesome.

dragon age 2 disagrees.

id also like them to improve the paragon/renegade options you either have to be full paragorn or full renegade to fill the bar and be able to make some choises later in the game.

Well its not like ME2 is much if any rpg to begin with... More like a action / adventure game with rpg elements. And ME3 will have even less dev time. But after DA2 i dont think i will buy it anyway.

I loved both ME1 and ME2, sure they removed the mako, but they listened to the complaints and implemented the firewalker or whatever the name was (DLC, but it was free)

I don't know mate but I actually prefer the Mako, ten-folds. I think all the complaints only "dumbed" down the game. And I use that "term" loosely before I piss off anyone; I didn't mean to. The whole revamped inventory system in ME2 made me cringe. I actually prefer the inventory system in ME1. It felt more RPG-ish and it made you work at things instead of having everything there for you like you had a space-maid. To me, ME will always be greater than ME2 in almost every way. The complaints is where it all started, so BioWare decided to take things out that really gave Mass Effect that RPG feel. Now, it's nearly all gone.

really hoping they improve the mineral collecting. i thought it was boring as hell. they should just have a mineral booth or something where you can buy em off w/ credits in addition to looting them when you're doing missions. of course, they're gonna have to let sheppard hold a lot more credits. maybe have a banker in the normandy and open a checking account there :P

Best way would be to make mineral deposits for planets and something like pods filled with minerals if the mission is on a ship, on all the side quests, it'll give another reason to complete them, besides the fact that they might actually be very good, I know side quests in ME 2 were fantastic compared to ME1, but still, far from the quality of the main quest.

If the developers are stupid enough to simplify the formula to a greater degree, then they deserve every reproach. I don't see how they could possibly streamline anything further. I actually think they will move in the opposite direction and give people more choice. Either way, let's hope they don't go backwards. If the worst case scenario is that nothing changes, then it will be fine.

Mass Effect 2 was better than the first from what I've played, unless you enjoyed the mako side-quests ( in which case you should feel bad ). I also felt that Mass Effect 1 was kinda lacking in planets you could explore. You know, real planets and not those board game style, mako rubber physics, empty planets. The best zone was the Citadel station...

Also, different dev teams.

Just like Uncharted 3 and Battlefield 3 (although BF3 isnt quite as long as the others), which will both be amazing games.

I was a bit cautious on that side but the reason why I think it won't be a fail is because its always been a planned trilogy so they know what they are doing from the beginning and the engine, design will be the same with just enhancements. I think its gameplay to think about they made some changes from ME1 to ME2 that they were able to make work and get away with.

I hope they don't add multiplayer just so they can tick all the boxes and instead concentrate on making this final chapter one to remember. They can do MP if they think it fits next time round since Bioware said the Mass Effect universe they created is so rich they'll make more games based on it.

Bioware has been going downhill since BG II.

Dragon Age is an awful series. I don't want my games to preach the *** lifestyle at me. If they can't make a game without preaching their politically correct religion at me - I 'll pass.

I also felt that Mass Effect 1 was kinda lacking in planets you could explore. You know, real planets and not those board game style, mako rubber physics, empty planets. The best zone was the Citadel station...

Also, different dev teams.

You need to play it all to come to the same conclusion. ME2 had its moments, but the game is pretty much -collect characters -do character quests -finish game.

PERFECT example is the transition between DA1 and Dragon Age 2....FelipeInside

Speak for yourself. I miss complex RPG's and so do many others in this forum, so I'm not even sure you can play the "majority" card. And how do gamers tastes change through a "generation" anyway? For that matter, why would we even discuss generations if consolization has nothing to do with this.. it is a console term, after all.

If all this streamlining is for the better, then why do I find myself playing Titan Quest when Dragon Age 2 and Crysis 2 just came out? :D

From what I can tell, many PC gamers want what they've always wanted. Deep, interesting games. You lose all that depth in an RPG and all you're left with is an action-adventure game, something that will sell well on CONSOLES. That's why it always goes back to consolization.

I assure you that Mass Effect as a series was made this way to appeal to console gamers, so again, consolization. If it was a PC-exclusive trilogy, the games would've had much more substance. This is plainly acknowledged in the PC port of ME1, which already had more of a tactical interface, even though it was the same game overall. In fact you can even track this with Bioware's game efforts over the years... as they move more and more to console-centric development, their games get less interesting and complex.

Why do people say ME2 story was horrible? "Horrible" is a strong word. Maybe it wasn't as new and good as ME1, but far from horrible imo....FelipeInside

The storyline is cliche and barely there. The game relied almost solely on the characters in terms of its storyline.

I did put "notice I said majority". It's proven by facts. More streamlined easier RPGs sell better than hardcore like-old-school RPGs. I'm not saying there aren't people who like them (hell, I'm nearly finished with Dragon Age Origins myself), but now most people prefer something shorter and less hassle.
