IDK if it's a drivers issue or not but at times the game will jump to 80fps and suddenly dip to 40s and it's annoying really . and turning off Uber sampling really increases performance and i didn't notice a difference anyways . running the game on ultra @1080p . hope this gets fixed soon .

Now, my textures are completely gone no matter which settings have disabled or enabled. On any setting, no textures, and this is with 266.58 and 270.61.... I just uninstalled the game and going through the huge extraction+installing again... For me personally, this has been the worst start of any game this year, and last.
Someone on these forums called it a few weeks ago. He said he was going to wait a couple of weeks before he buys the game and he's a big Witcher fan too. Ugh. This isn't happening....
Needed bump. Sorry for double post.
1. So, I uninstalled/re-installed The Witcher 2 and now my TEXTURES are back. Using 270.61, GTX 580.
2. I've disabled "uber-sampling" and the game runs smooth now, with no sacrifice in visual quality that I can see. I can't tell the difference. Actually, turning off uber-sampling will only do you good at this point because then you will have better frame rate and be able to actually see the game in fluid motion. Overall, much, MUCH better.
3. I think uber-sampling is on the same level as Dragon Age 2's DX11 very high. Just stay away from it for now.
4. I think issues are on both AMD and Nvidia. People on the forums are saying mainly AMD, but as you can tell, Nvidia has issues of its own as well.
5. Overall, overclocking your GPU isn't going to help. In this state, it has to do with the video drivers and hopefully, we'll see a patch soon.
6. I've noticed textures flickering like on pieces of wood.
7. Like I've said before, textures completely disappearing from the character, terrain, everything, all.
8. I currently have uber-sampling, bloom, motion blur, blur, disabled.
9. Settings are ultra, ultra shadows, ultra lighting, light shafts enabled, anti-aliasing enabled, vsync, large memory.
I'm going wait for comments on this new beta driver. I don't want to mess things up while they're good right now. Be back for further updates. Cheers.

here's something i tried , reinstall 270.61 but don't install any 3D vision drivers . it helped a bit with the performance , as for now i'm running Ultra settings (Uber sampling off) at1080p on a single gtx 580 and getting 50-80 fps . still think the performance should be better . there is a new betadriver 275.27 , will try it and will post results afterwards .[QUOTE="Elann2008"][QUOTE="ultrapc"]

Also check out my post above listing some things I've come across. I'm going to spread the word once The Witcher 2 forums are up again. Note, to everyone, in your initial video configuration setup, disable uber-sampling right away. Because if you have it enabled already, you go and play the game, and then decide to disable it afterwards, you might lose all your textures. That's exactly what happened to me. So try not to mess with your video configuration preset too much. Uber-sampling as of now doesn't do much at all, but only KILLS the performance. I'm running 60fps max, consistently now. Check my specs if you need to compare.
I'm going to do a clean install of the video drivers and not install 3D vision. Brb. Thanks again.
I'm getting anywhere from 35-60fps now. Outdoor environments, never rises above 45fps, drops back and forth from 35-45. Disappointing. Reference clock, I'm not going to overclock it and I'd rather see a fix.
Cutscenes, never rises above 48fps, dipping into the 30's. Similar performance to the reference above.
Prison level ran well, 50-60fps.
Just installed the new beta drivers and there are slight improvments . outdoors now run at 60fps constant .

Yup. Just tested it out myself as well. No improvements for me on reference clock GTX 580. Also, I didn't install the 3D vision drivers this time and that didn't help at all either. At least it isn't choppy as uber-sampling performance.I recommend you stay on the original drivers . there isn't much of a difference with the new one . we just have to wait for a patch or something .

Looks like it's time to upgrade :P
i tried to run it at max settings at 1280X1024 and my PC was simply having none of it. i walked out the tent near the start and it was only going about 5-10 FPS.
i knocked off a few settgins though like motion blur (which i dont like anyway) and AA but i have kept the ubersampleing on (its called uber sampeling..i have to have it :P) and left most other things at max or high settings. its running much better now. so far its also been very stable and reliable for me. im using catalyst 11.4.
edit: sorry i did run into an issue. in one of the videos about geralt remembering stuff near the beginning the sound got all choppy. its been perfect in the game itself but that vid caused an audio prob.
It would nice if a game released ready to play. I grow sick and tired of this s***. Well I was going to go buy it this morning and just changed my mind. I have a weak GTX 275 with the 270 drivers and really don't need the headaches. Any one have a setup like this in my sig to compare?
I`ll just wait until they fix these performance problems. I haven`t even beat the first game yet anyway.. :Pharry_james_pot
I don't think the performance issues are bad enough to make it not worth buying it, but I do agree with you about finishing the first game first - this game really jumps right into things, frequently talking about events and characters that we encounter right near the end of The Witcher 1.
Plus importing all of your equipment from the first game is rather cool.

It's getting better in some parts of the game. Hanging around 45-50ish fps. As long as it's smooth to go along with the combat. :) Still needs work though. Haha yeah, I never thought a GTX 580 would struggle in TW2. Now, I'm worried about BF3. :P haha
I'm quite concerned with other people's performance. Not everyone can afford a GTX 580 or AMD equivalent. Some people don't want to buy one just for a small percentage of games that might need the extra juice. I want everyone who bought TW2 to enjoy the game.

Awesome! :) I`m in chapter IV right now, how much is left in the game?I`m in chapter IV right now, how much is left in the game?harry_james_pot
There's still another chapter and an epilogue, but those were definitely shorter than the earlier chapters. I'd guess...at least a few more hours?
How's the combat in Witcher 2? Is it like Witcher 1? If not, how's it different? If it's the same, I'm not even gonna bother with Witcher 2.trastamad03
It's much better than The Witcher 1's combat.
I'd say that it's more like Batman: Arkham Asylum - it's very fluid and dynamic, with much more emphasis on blocking or rolling away from attacks. Left clicking does fast/weak attacks, right clicking does slow/strong attacks, 'q' casts spells and 'r' uses items (bombs, traps, etc).
The spells are also much more integrated into the combat now (you actually might want to use the trap and armour spells, for example, although Igni has been nerfed), the enemies are more varied and require different tactics to beat, and even on normal mode the enemies put up a decent fight.

What CPU's do you guys have?
I think the issue here is DX9.
DX9 rendering is still single threaded. Menaing that if there are enough calls a game WILL CPU bottleneck, even though the GPU could happily handle more workload.
With DX 11 and multi-threaded rendering this issue goes away.
I'm guessing uber sampling, specially requires not just a decent GPU but one tough as nails CPU too.
I'm having some issues.
Intel Core i5 2500K @ 3.30 GHz
8 GB dual channel G.Skill DDR3 1333 downclocked to 1066 for system stability reasons
Radeon HD 4890 1GB, 925 MHz GPU clock, 1050 MHz memory clock; using Catalyst 11.5
Turned the AA and AF off. I can run the game rather smoothly between mid and high settings at a resolution of 1280x1024. However, I get flickering artifacts. I've also been getting them on Crysis 1 as of late. They're usually randomly-appearing, but frequent, small groups of white pixels. Sometimes there will be a more wedge-like -- larger and usually stretched out -- artifact that flashes on the screen. Also, on The Witcher 2, when I leave the tent at the beginning, the buildings/encampments on the hill in the distance have a large red "barrier" that flickers on and off in front of them.
Two things I should note:
1. I think I neglected to put new thermal grease on my processor, though I may be thinking of my older ones, instead.
2. I've already had to RMA my video card once. And it's going on two years old. I'm not harboring any delusions about the possible state of the card.
EDIT: I tried running FurMark and... frankly, I'm not sure that I didn't see the white artifacts, but I'm not sure that I saw any artifacts, period (with all the colors shifting around in FurMark, though, it's hard to tell).

Sounds good, I'll probably watch a Let's Play of Witcher 1 to keep me up to date and then get Witcher 2. Same here , performance is getting better , getting 55-60fps most of the time now outdoors on ultra . but , my CPU usage percentage never jumped above 7% on a 2600k and i understand that Uber-sampling is CPU hungry . Although there is no difference between Ubers-sampling enabled or disabled but i want it enabled . I have the fastest gpu/cpu combo dammit :PThe first game is not optimized at all, runs very poor... I didn't expect it to be much better for the Witcher 2, seems My guess wasn't too far off.
I don't think I will worry with this franchise. There are plenty more that actually do have decent performance.
All settings maxed except the uber one and i get 40-60 frames everywhere @ 1080p. However the game looks much, much better using the uber setting imo. But even at 720p I only get 25 or so frames using it.i5750at4Ghzreally ? i didn't notice it at all , and i got a decent 30fps with uber-sampling on . no difference here .
Dumb question: where/how do I access advanced vid settings? I'd like to turn off motion blur. Another gift from the consoles.attirexopen the launcher and click on video and language. then click on show advanced settings. a list will then appear that will allow you to tweak. if your not sure what somethign does then you can check the readme in the games install directory.
Im really dissapointed atm. I love the game so far but im getting 20-30 fps on high with uber turned off. Would of though I would of got a better performance from my pc.

crossfire isnt supported yet..AMD still have to make a profile. at the mo your 2 GPUs may be working against you. i dont use CF so i dont know how do this for that setup...but if you disable one of the GPUs you may get better performance. it should be supported in the next round of GPU drivers and CF profiles and all that good stuff.Im really dissapointed atm. and for those of us not using CF, on Nvidia GPUs that are well above the recommended, and of which the game is supposed to be optimized for, and are still getting horrid performance?
this is like dragon age 2s DX11 mode all over again. im sorry but there is just no excuse. you cant tell me the game left their office working fine on GTX400 series and above GPUs and suddenly works like **** retail.
considering the recommended is a GTX 260... i dont even see how this would be playable on the lowest settings on a GTX 260.
my only saving grace for this game is that im only about 75% through the first witcher game, and want to beat that first. this will hopefully give nvidia and the devs time to patch and get better drivers out there so the game isnt a miserable failure in the performance department.
I am getting about 10-15 fps on my single GTX470 on everything ULTRA and resolution 1804x1004 (tv overscan issues so running resized res).
When i turn on SLI with both GTX470's, there is minimal improvement if any. I got from like 10-15 fps to like 15-20fps
Sys specs:
i7-930 @ 2.8
6GB ram
GTX470sli
What settings are you guys using? Just a heads up turn Texture memory size to small. I noticed no difference in visual quality but instantly the game ran more smooth and no more crashes.Makes me glad that I waited to buy it.
My question is.. why would CD Projekt release the game in this state?
Mystic-G
Sorry failed to mention I turned one card off already. I hope they release something quick and dont leave it a while as its a shame. The game is really good.
