the 360 has not been selling well for the past 6 months due to them stuffing the channels with their stock at the end of last year to hit their 10 million target.

but whatever the case... Halo 3, regardless of what you think about the quality of the game, is the biggest selling console franchise that will boost sales like no other game.

ginraisama

but you have to think, how many of those 8 million Halo fans(close to the sales of Halo 2) already have 360s? I think a great majority of them already have a 360. So while the game will probably be the highest selling game ever, I don't think it will sell as many consoles as everybody thinks.

erm... not much of a chance to be the best selling game ever... unless everyone who owns an X360 buys the game 4times...

here you go guys...

--------------------------------------------------------

1. Pokémon Red, Blue and Green (Game Boy - 20.08 million approximately, 10.23 million in Japan,[27] 9.85 million in US)[32] 2. Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES - 18 million)[24] 3. Nintendogs (DS - 14.79 million)[49] 4. Pokémon Gold and Silver (Game Boy - 14.51 million approximately, 7.6 million in US,[32] 6.91 million in Japan)[27] 5. Super Mario Land (Game Boy - 14 million)[24] 6. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (PS2 - 13 million)[74]Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire (GBA - 13 million)[53] 8. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2 - 12 million)[75] 9. Super Mario 64 (N64 - 11 million)[27]Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec (PS2 - 11 million)[64]Grand Theft Auto III (PS2 - 11 million)[74] 12. Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen (GBA - 10.66 million)[45] 13. New Super Mario Bros. (DS - 10.52 million)[49] 14. Gran Turismo (PS1 - 10.5 million)[64] 15. Super Mario Bros. 2 (NES - 10 million)[24] 16. Final Fantasy VII (PS1 - 9.8 million, includes Final Fantasy VII International)[65] 17. Pokémon Diamond and Pearl (DS - 8.76 million)[49] 18. Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day! (DS - 8.61 million)[49] 19. Gran Turismo 2 (PS1 - 8.5 million)[64] 20. Mario Kart 64 (N64 - 8.47 million approximately, 6.23 million in US,[34] 2.24 million in Japan)[27]

------------------------------------------------------------

I don't see any HALO there :)

and this is just the console games list... don't make me go to PC :P

I kinda meant in the US.

Man, nextgenwars and VGCharts were waaaaay off on this one weren't they? Goes to show how inaccurate they are. THey had the system at like 3.7 million now for weeks. So much for them being a creditable source.

so i think PS3 will have 10 million at least (11 milion max) by December and 360 will have 16 million 17 million max.

It'll catch up to 360 next year probably in the 20 millions. Wii is a monster.

that is from nexgent wars they say that they only have estimates only the real companies ,microsfot ,sony, nintendo have the real numbers so nexgenwars is not a reliable webasite Where do the numbers come from? The console sales numbers you see on the front page of NexGen Wars are estimates, and are not intended to represent exact, down to the minute sales as only Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony know the exact sales figures of their respective consoles. What we do here at NexGen Wars is compile numbers from NPD, Media Create, ChartTrack, as well as various other sources. We then take these numbers and, based on past sales trends, extrapolate the numbers out to give as close to real-time estimates as possible. Again, these are only estimates, but we are confident in our ability to bring you accurate and unbiased sales figures. Not only do we extrapolate the numbers out so they don't lag months behind with the official sales numbers, but we also update the numbers when new official numbers have been released to keep our estimates as accurate as possible.

As of July 26th, 2007:

Wii: 10 Million Sold

Xbox 360: 8.5-9.5 Million Sold

PS3: 4.5 Million Sold

I'm getting my estimations from Wikipedia and adding more since they are usually as of May-June 2007

My March 08' Predictions:

Wii: 18 Million Sold

Xbox 360: 13 Million Sold

PS3: 10.5 Million Sold if $399 version comes out then 11.5 Million Sold

sharrak
if those numbers are right the ps3 is actualy doing well compared to the 360, it sold half the amount of the 360 in a third of the time! I can't see the Wii surviving until 2008's holidays tough, after Samsh Bros is launched what they'll have? About halo 3 selling 360s, I think that half the people that bought 360s bought it for halo, thus about 5 out of 8 million halo fans, so halo can sell 3 million consoles. Note: I'm considering that the number of people that wan't halo so bad that they'll buy a console just for it is equal to the number of copies halo 2 sold, I think the average consumer wouldn't buy a console for the last game in a series he didn't play. About your sales figures for PS3 by March 08': if they launch a $399 version they'll reach 15 million easily.

i'm Lost... here it says 6 million...

"He highlighted that the GfK figure was actually a little dated, and the final numbers sat somewhere closer to a total of 64,000 units sold in Australia to date. He also said that, on a slow week, the PS3 was selling around 2,500 units - putting it ahead of all other direct console competitors in the market. Globally, the PS3 has racked up a total of approximately 6 million units sold."

This is all enlighten but the fact is with the price of sony of the 60 gig systems and with August being their best month comin up, of course they would have a boost in sales. This continued success will be based on whether microsoft decides to have a price drop themselves right before their big games come out. If they decide to drop the price of the 360 on august by $50, with Bioshock, Madden 08 & stranglehold coming out in that month, and probably some other great games. Plus halo 3 coming out the next month, it's going to boost their sales big time, so lets not jump for joy yet and just wait and see how microsoft respond to this.

MY PREDICTIONS!

360 will have like4-5 mill in holiday sales because of halo 3 and other games plus they will prob drop the price

(don't underestimate the "halo" hype)

ps3 will have 2-3 mill in holiday sales because of great games but price is still too higfh for the average consumer/ family income

wii will sell like freakin hotcakes for the LAST season because of mario and crazy kids + it's a cheap babysitter for kids so it intises parents.

by next holiday season 08 the ps3 and 360 will have games that demolish the wii graphicaly and ps3 will have another big price drop and will sell like mad as a awsome console/ affordable blu-ray solution (gonna be widely adopted format by then) the 360 will do good the wii can't compete with the A.I advancements and level design(lighting, effects, cpu heavy gameplay ect

i think it will be more like 2 million behind the 360 by holidays. Its already 5 million behind 360 now. Its 3 million behind wii. And most halo fans have 360's already, and the PS3 has a WAY better holiday line-up than any other console( i really mean that,im not biased,i have all 3 systems)

FireFalkon

the 360 already sold 12 million units already, didn't it? PS3 sales are taking off now but i don't see 8 million more units being sold until the holidays

360 SOLD 12 million or SHIPPED 12 million? Last holiday season, M$ boasted that it sold 10M already. Then 6 months later, they sold another 2 million (wow, great job there!)

Then we found out that last holiday, M$ SHIPPED 10 million (not SOLD). So how much did M$ SOLD by now? We don't know.

FYI, the Wii is going to slow down....I know, shocking. The juggernaut will slow down. With Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros, it wont be anytime soon. But at some point next year, gimmicky party games with Gamecube graphics just wont have the same appeal when games like Halo 3, MGS 4, GTA 4, are out.

I simply dont think the Wii was enough of an improvement on the Gamecube, to last for the entire Next Gen. They'll have to put out another console before Microsoft or Sony. The reason being, the graphics are holding up somewhat with the other consoles, imagine playing Resident Evil 5, then playing Mario Party 9. In a years time the Wii wont have enough to offer to stay competative. I feel the same way about the DS, its a touch screen Gameboy Advance, and wont have as long a life as the PSP.

Motion controlling is a lot of fun now, but when the 360 and PS3 are revolutionizing video games, it just wont be enough. The Wii just doesnt have the hardware to keep up in the long run. While the 360 and PS3 have the technology to continue to improve for years to come.

Its a marathon, not a sprint guys.

I'm just curious how many of the 360's sold were actually consoles sent to people who had one that broke. I went through 3 systems lol. I finally got tired of it and sold it to some poor chap and bought myself a ps3 haha. No problems out of it. And almost all of my friends on it had theirs break down at least once, some more than that. I'd be willing to bet at least 1/3 of launch consoles broke within a year, and probably over 1/2 by now.

well put. the wii can't keep this up, in the end, nintendo's decision to shun the hardcore gamers and bank ing on the casual gamers will be their mistake.

I don't see any HALO there :)

and this is just the console games list... don't make me go to PC :P

actually... considering the console userbase, the Halo 2 selling point of 8 million units is pretty impressive. lets not forget that many of those games that you listed are coming from systems that were much more successful than the Xbox, and that a lot of games on that list are from handhelds.

and according to MS (sure... you can bash the reliability of this source), the three biggest selling franchises of last generation were Halo, GTA, and Madden. Halo has some incredible selling power.

the 360 has not been selling well for the past 6 months due to them stuffing the channels with their stock at the end of last year to hit their 10 million target.

but whatever the case... Halo 3, regardless of what you think about the quality of the game, is the biggest selling console franchise that will boost sales like no other game.

eclipsed4utoo

but you have to think, how many of those 8 million Halo fans(close to the sales of Halo 2) already have 360s? I think a great majority of them already have a 360. So while the game will probably be the highest selling game ever, I don't think it will sell as many consoles as everybody thinks.

if you check the Nielsen rating of consoles being played, the Xbox is the second most played platform, only behind the PS2. so there are still many people who just own the last-gen Xbox who can be waiting for Halo 3 to come out until they make the next-gen jump.

i think it will be more like 2 million behind the 360 by holidays.

I Agree. The only reason why the PS3 sales have picked up is because of the fake price drop and the 5 free Blu-ray movie offers thats all, there's no great exclusive games that making everybody want one.

ERoBB

i think that you are thinking of this console race as decided just by gamers though. Nintendo has completely changed how things work, and now all these non-gamers have a say in what happens.

i mean... look at the DS. it is consistently dominating every month (selling half a million every month, double of the PSP worlwide)... yet the hardware is weak and its library of games has been barren for a while (pokemon gave an extremely huge boost, but before that the DS was still dominant).

True infact Halo 3's preorders are almost at the same rate as Halo 2's was back in 2004.( I know I work at Gamestop part-time and the preorder list forthe collector's, regular and legendary editions are through the roof.)

Don't get me wrong I now want a PS3. Mainly because of the 5 free blu-ray movies, but also there will those 4-8 exclusive games for the PS3 that I want to play. I also want it because I want something new.(I already have a 360.)

If halo 3's pre orders are so high it means that everyone that wants halo already has a 360, so halo 3 won't sell many consoles. Unless you believe that people pre order games for consoles they don't have.

I read that on Kotaku, but I don't trust it very much. Who were they surverying? What region? (US, Japan, Europe, etc.), Where were they surveying in certain regions? In the world today there is just too many differences and surverying lets say 200k-400k cannot speak for the millions of people.

If you look online you can find semi accurate info on the actual sales of Ps3's and 360's. Its taken M$ 20 months to sell 10mil consoles and Sony 8 months to sell 4.5. So I would expect that within 20 months the Ps3 would have sold as many as M$ at the same sales timeline. Plus the PsP and Ps2 still continue to sell very well. So given that, Sony is much bigger overall game console maker than Micro$oft by a looooooong way. Sony large, Micro$oft small. the future is with Sony and thats going to start showing very soon.

And those people looking for MGS4 probably already have a PS3. Thats not a very valid argument. Mario fans already have Wii's, so would Mario Galaxy boost sales?

its not just previous success... it is current success as well. the PS2 is still a dominant platform despite it being a generation old.

not to mention that when all these PS2 owners makes the next-gen switch (and either decide to skip the Wii/buy the Wii and want another console)... they are going to be more inclined to get the PS3 since that is the console where all their old franchises that they liked are on.

people just have delusions when it comes to microsofts console. Peter Moore is gone now, maybe they can actually market the product correctly.
