[QUOTE="FireFalkon"][QUOTE="thekey"] True infact Halo 3's preorders are almost at the same rate as Halo 2's was back in 2004.( I know I work at Gamestop part-time and the preorder list forthe collector's, regular and legendary editions are through the roof.)kevy619

If halo 3's pre orders are so high it means that everyone that wants halo already has a 360, so halo 3 won't sell many consoles. Unless you believe that people pre order games for consoles they don't have.

actually alot of people have done so, and alot of people will buy Halo 3 without pre-ordering.

how can that be proven?

How can it be proven to be false?

it can't from what a regular gamer knows. but considering that this point is neither proven true or false... it should be considered a moot argument.

And those people looking for MGS4 probably already have a PS3. Thats not a very valid argument. Mario fans already have Wii's, so would Mario Galaxy boost sales?

people just have delusions when it comes to microsofts console. Peter Moore is gone now, maybe they can actually market the product correctly.

And to be truthful, alot of people bought a 360 to play Oblivion, Gears of War, Call Of Duty, and some of the other games they have already released. Software sales on the 360 are much more impressive than the original xbox. Halo 3 hasnt even shown its impact yet, alot of people are going to wait until Halo 3 comes out to buy one.

fair enough, but it cant be denied that halo 3 will boost xbox 360 sales, saying otherwise is simply ignorant.

No, because you can't show me how many pre orders MGS4 has, and MGS2 and MGS3 weren't the best selling games in the PS2.

Of course it'll boost 360's sales, but not as much as some of you believe it will.

Why cant someone preorder a game without owning the system? Maybe they plan on buying the system when they go to pick up the game. This point has no merit.

Of course they can, but why would anyone do that? They are expecting a price drop for the 360? Why don't buy the console now? or buy the game after they bought the console? Assuming the average consumer would do such a thing is ridiculous,

i think it will be more like 2 million behind the 360 by holidays. Its already 5 million behind 360 now. Its 3 million behind wii. And most halo fans have 360's already, and the PS3 has a WAY better holiday line-up than any other console( i really mean that,im not biased,i have all 3 systems)

eclipsed4utoo

the 360 already sold 12 million units already, didn't it? PS3 sales are taking off now but i don't see 8 million more units being sold until the holidays

I Agree. The only reason why the PS3 sales have picked up is because of the fake price drop and the 5 free Blu-ray movie offers thats all, there's no great exclusive games that making everybody want one.

and that's your opinion

Dont answer to him, he is just as big of a fanboy as they come. Check his profile and see.

Of course someone can order a game without owning the system, it's just less likely to happen.

So speaking from a grand scale of stastics, you should see that system owners are mostly likely to pre-order games.

Why would anyone preorder a game without a system? did you preorder any games for the ps3 before the systems comes out? Some people are just waiting to get there systems, thats all. There are die hard halo fans out there that are just waiting for this game to come out, and only want to buy the 360 when halo 3 is released, I know a few pepole like that, so i'm sure that's probably thousands more people like that out there. It's not out the realm of possibility.

Exactly. As far as I understand, and don't qoute me on this, hasn't the Ps2 sold somehting like 125mil units?? now you only need a 1/4 of those Ps2 owners to make the jump and you've got 30+ million Ps3 onwers! Aside from the fact that the Ps3 is a far superior console. Sony is a gaming GIANT compared to Micro$oft. MS had the jump on the releases of the 360 but its short comings are there for all to see. It wouldn't be unrealistic to predict that at some point within the next 5 years that Sony would have sold approx 200 million units of the PsP, Ps2 and Ps3. Now if that isn't the future I don't know what is?! Is M$ EVER likely to get anywhere near that? Unlikely.

[QUOTE="Sycosi"]If you look online you can find semi accurate info on the actual sales of Ps3's and 360's. Its taken M$ 20 months to sell 10mil consoles and Sony 8 months to sell 4.5. So I would expect that within 20 months the Ps3 would have sold as many as M$ at the same sales timeline. Plus the PsP and Ps2 still continue to sell very well. So given that, Sony is much bigger overall game console maker than Micro$oft by a looooooong way. Sony large, Micro$oft small. the future is with Sony and thats going to start showing very soon.c0mplex

how so? Because sony has previous success they are the future?

its not just previous success... it is current success as well. the PS2 is still a dominant platform despite it being a generation old.

not to mention that when all these PS2 owners makes the next-gen switch (and either decide to skip the Wii/buy the Wii and want another console)... they are going to be more inclined to get the PS3 since that is the console where all their old franchises that they liked are on.

That's not necessarily true. Just because they have a PS2 now doesn't mean they'll get the PS3 when they're ready to switch. One of the reasons they still have a PS2 is because it's cheap and has a lot of games. The Wii is cheap and the 360 is cheaper than the PS3 plus it's game library is much bigger.

Another thing the PS3 has been out sold every month since it's release including June. So please tell me how it gained any ground on the 360 when the 360 consistantly sells 180k-200k every month while the PS3 sells 80k-90k???? With this spike in sales the last couple of weeks, it just might equal the numbers of the 360. If that's the case then it didn't gain ground but rather didn't lose ground.

Don't believe Sony when they come out saying they sold 4.5million to homes when they're known for flat out lying.

Don't count on PS2 owners to boost the sales of the PS3. I know lots of PS2 owners that won't make the jump to the PS3 because of price and lack of games. Those PS2 owners will most likely make the jump over to the Wii or the 360 because they're cheaper and have a better game library.

so in 2 years, the PS3 will still be $600 and will still have no games? yeah, ok. go on back to the 360 forum.

by the end of this year, the PS3 will be cheaper and will have a ton of games. so there goes both of those "bashes". what's next? the PS3 doesn't breakdown like the 360?

Okay regarding the comment that onlya quarter of the "125million ps2s sold" adopting the ps3 would put it at 30 mil. Well I dunno about everyone else but since the ps2's release I've gone through three of em. When a console costs less than $200 it's easy to replace when it gets broken or a new version comes out, especially since they discontinued the network adapter so anyone who adopted online gameplay late would have to buy a new slim line ps2 just to play online. I believe the ps2 user base is extremely lower than the amount of ps2's sold but your argument is true! But then considering that the price difference between ps2 and ps3 is now like $400, there's no way it'll be adopted as quickly as the ps2 rose to fame.

Now as for people saying halo is the only console seller out there, come on!!!!! I dunno about everyone else, but I'm happy with my current library andline up for the ps3, and I know many many people that are planning on getting a ps3 very soon due to it's great line up! The PSN games are getting better and better too. RE5 looks absolutely amazing, heavenly sword is the next god of war, metal gear is coming and will push more ps3's than halo pushes 360's. *side note* Xbox live has no relevance to Metal gear seeing how it's not an online game. MGO is completely seperate and could possibly be multi platform. I personally hope it is. Hell, MGS4 could go multi as well just not at the same time. But seriously the PS3 has some awesome stuff coming! Better interface with home trumps XBL completely( and it's free), WMC compatibility, and blu-ray player all make it a wise choice, add on a nice $100.00 price drop and you have an equation showing the second rise of sony's console market! And even the cheap 60 gig ps3's can be personally upgraded with better hard drives for less than $100.00 and a screwdriver, without voiding the warranty. And don't even get me started on the reliability of the 360. That's the only reason I haven't got one. I'll just buy a new video card and PSU for my PC and I'll have a better console than the 360 with all the same games available and no more "wasd" thanks to games for windows being compatible with the 360 pad.

The next gen is here and I'm loving how it's coming together!!!!!!!

I will agree. but to use those two examples(high price and no games) as a reason that PS2 owners will NEVER get a PS3, that's just getting old....and those problems will be gone very soon.

I would much rather see this as an answer, "The PS3 will not dominate because the 360 is much more of a competitor than the Xbox was to the PS2." That's much better than, "PS2 owners won't buy a PS3 because of it's high price and lack of games." both of those "problems" will change. so therefore, PS2 owners will get PS3s because those problems won't be around anymore.

u guys keep forgeting that people bought PS2 to play games like

Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo, Tekken, DMC, MGS, PES, Kingdom Hearts, Singstar, Disgaea, God of War, Guitar Hero, Bully, SOCOM, etc... and they will buy the PS3 to keep playing the games they like.

The x360 is more oriented to PC gamers with a library full of FPS's and most games you can play on PC... while the Playstation has more original games that you can't find anywhere else.

Plus the PS3 has the hardware lead and people are realizing that... they're just waiting for the new exclusive games to make the jump from PS2 to PS3. And it will happen naturally, there's no rush :)

If M$ spent more time and money preparing a decent game station, the whole lot of their consummers wouldn't have send the console back to trade for another one.

To sum it up, the only advantage the X360 has over the PS3 is the time it had to grow a userbase... now the technological edge + gaming library will allways be with Sony for this generation at least.

The price is higher than the 360, but it's totally worth it.

And to top it all the Playstation has a real fanbase because they proven themselves for 2 console generations selling all over the world.

After M$ stopped supporting their buyers last generation, abandoning the xbox to move over to the 360, they just showed their cards in the gaming industry... (make a quick $ and screw the buyers). This is why they will come up short yet again.

most lemmings bought 2 or 3 360's because the 1st one died on them... that helps on the "sold" numbers lol

Anyhow, it's cool that Sony got this recent boost in sales, I'm sure they will increase even more by the time the 60GB model ends and they start selling the 80GB at the same price while giving the consumer the chance to buy games like Lair, Warhawk, White Knight Story (my personal favourite), Rock Band, Eye of Judgement, etc... just to keep it in 2007 :)

Xmas this year will be great = more PS3 selling + soon enough MGS4 will come out wich will be the biggest boost of them all.

By mid next year the ammount of PS3 sold should equal the 360 and pass it soon enough ;)

Look at it this way, you can play most ps3 games on the 360. Most of the good pc games on the 360. And the 360 has its own exclusives, even if alot of them end up on the pc. Its not as if every game on the 360 is released at the same time on pc. Moreover, most games ported to the pc are better on the original console. How many people bought a ps2 to play the Grand Theft Auto games? Did those grand theft auto games not get a release on pc and xbox? Did those Grand Theft Auto games sell nearly as well on platforms other than the ps2?

uhh...no you can't. Sony has the 3rd largest development division in the WORLD, behind EA and UbiSoft. To to the PS3, it's like having UbiSoft being totally exclusive to the PS3.

so no, you can't play most PS3 games on the 360. right now at this point in time you can, but that will not be the case for long.

thats still most of the games... even if sony can print 20% of their own games.
