As a general rule I only buy bargain blu-ray's between 10 and 15$.

A few exceptions were Samurai Champloo (Which ironically looks better on DVD) and Sherlock Holmes.

Blu-Ray/DVD combo packs are what entice me into purchasing new movies.

This is why I just stream em, or rent em through netflix now. I still have a ton of VHS (with no player), tons of Laserdiscs (with no player), and tons of DVD's (that I can actually play, but for how long). It's huge clutter to me that I just don't use, so I have stopped collecting. I love the way blu ray's look, and think it is a great format. I just hardly ever want to watch a movie more than once anymore.

I don't own a single BD. Just get them through Netflix 2 at a time. I will be getting the LotR trilogy in June and the SW saga later this year though. Can't see myself buying anything else though.

I kinda want BR The Final Cut but have not purchased it yet.

But you still buy DVD's?

I definitely stopped buying DVD's. It's almost silly to buy DVD's in 2011 IMO. I would love to dump even more of my DVD collection and upgrade more blu-rays, but unfortunately DVD's are so worthless now it's barely worth the time and effort to bother selling them. So for some movies I will probably never "double dip" with both blu-ray and DVD. For my favorites I've already upgraded. For new purchases I'm all blu-ray.

Well I have mixture of things, lol, just to let y'all know right off the top, lol (this is over span of 3 1/2+ yrs of having my PS3):

300

Afro Samurai: Season 1

Afro Samurai: Resurrection

Appleseed: Ex-Machina

Blood: The Last Vampire (the original anime short; NOT that horrid live-action knock-off)

The Dark Knight

Fast & Furious

FLCL (Fooly Cooly) -- just recent got

Ghost in the Shell 2.0 (it's remaster/remix of the first movie)

Ghost in the Shell 2: Innonence, JPN import ver. (this is actual sequel, I bought it almost a full yr before it was released in US b/c for a while no one knew if it'd ever get here)

Hitman (dammit, don't laugh I liked it!! lol)

Hulk Vs. (Thor & Wolverine)

Michael Jackson's This Is It

Public Enemies

Resident Evil: Degeneration

Samurai Champloo

Shigurui: Death Fenzy

Transformers: The Movie (the original 80s animated vers., not that Michael Bay crap...) UK import

Twilight (don't say anything....)

Venture Bros.: Season 3

War

We Own the Night

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

....and yes, you'll notice they were in perfect alphbetical order, lol. That's cause I read off my collection list I got saved on blu-ray.com's website. Beats me having go at it off the top of my head. :P

I'm not gonna bombard y'all w/ what I WANT to get, but let's just say I'm eyeing a few things I might get by Friday. I'm definitely (re)buying The Fast & the Furious (it was actually one of the first dvds I ever bought when I got my first dvd player over 10+ yrs ago), and if the Batman & Batman Returns (the Tim Burton directed ones) blurays are still cheap I'll get them too. Trying to build my anime on blu collection, hence you might have noticed an abundance of that in mine collection, too. You definitely don't wanna see my wishlist for THAT.

I've bought a lot more since I got a 3D TV. I got Tron Legacy, Alice in Wonderland, The iMax Wild Ocean movie, Despicable Me, The Official World Cup movie, and my TV came with Avatar. I wish Netflix would just rent the damn 3D Blu Rays so I could save a lot of money, but I guess that's what PSN rentals are (well, were) for.

I usually check a site like this (http://www.blu-ray.com/)to see if it's worth "upgrading" my DVD's to blu-ray. If it's a "bad transfer" I usually won't bother, I'll just keep the DVD. 12 monkeys is one example, easily one of my favorite movies of all time, but the rating for the blu-ray disc is pretty horrible. So I'm just holding out with the DVD hoping they come out with a new transfer for blu-ray.

http://www.blu-ray.com/

This site offers no opinion on the actual movie itself, but actually gives ratings to the quality of the blu-ray disc. They rate the video transfer (how faithful it is to film/theatrical quality), the audio quality (is it uncompressed? 7.1? good dynamic range? fathful as possible to the original source?), they also rate the extra content/special features. Some old movies look flat out amazing on blu-ray, even though they might not have CGI or modern special effects if it's a pristine transfer it makes a huge difference to me. If it's a mediocre transfer or the film looks mediocre to begin with, it makes less of a difference to upgrade. That's where I would just stick with the DVD, but I still won't buy any NEW dvd's.

Consider at WORST the blu-ray would probably be from the last/best DVD transfer, only encoded at 1080P instead of 480P. there's literally no reason to buy a DVD unless it's something not available on Blu-ray. But then many blu-rays actually get FRESH transfers at much higher resolutions, and using the latest technology to make sure they are in pristine condition for making their way onto the new format.

On a related note: I just watched Royal Tenenbaums Criterion Collection (DVD) last night and realized it's not even available on blu-ray. There's not even a hint of an announcement yet, hopefully Criterion eventually does the blu-ray of this one. I know they lost a few movies from their DVD offerings that were released by different studios on blu-ray, and the blu-rays turned out horrible (i.e. Ran blu-ray was released by StudioCanal and is supposed to be pretty crap)).

That site is my best friend.

I just purchased A Fistful of Dollars today, so all I need is 'For a Few Dollars More' to complete The Man With No Name triology. Hopefully someone gets it for me as a graduation gift. Also thinking of getting Wall-E.

[QUOTE="big_old_tom"]I have a small collection of Blu Ray compared to my dvd collection. Avatar The Boondock Saints 2 Date Night Fight Club Get Him To The Greek The Hurt Locker Inception Kick-Ass The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy (I have yet to watch them, maybe on a weekend I'll watch all of them and get it over with) Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus (Found it for $5 at a local store. Got it for the laughs, but it wasn't horrible, for the price) Sherlock Holmes Star Trek (Newest version) The Town TV Shows Family Guy: Star Wars Trilogy The Office: Season Six Smallville: Season Nine Spartacus: Blood And Sand

I forgot to add one TV show i have, because it is too big to fit on my bookshelf, so it sits in my dresser drawer. That Blu Ray tv show i forgot was Lost: The Complete Series. Can't believe i forgot about that one.

Lord of the rings + watch + get it over with = does not compute

I use to collect tons of movies. I have over 300 DVD's but with BD's I have been more selective. I tend to buy movies I really want or hard to get a hold of titles. I have about 20 but my favs would have to be Oldboy, Akira, and Eden of the East these are eastern titles and hard to see without purchasing.
