Is this thing turning into a $600 paperweight?VideodoggTalk about jumping to conclusions. I doubt a little bug such as this will be the reason why the PS3 turns into a $600 paperweight. If blu-ray goes down the toilet, or if devs jump ship completely, then I'd say you have a point. But a little skipping that can be fixed with firmware is no big deal.
The reason this doesn't happen in games is because games do not require constant ROM drive reading, games are cached in HDD and only require loading at specific moments. While DVDs and BluRay require constant drive access as only a few seconds of the data is cahed in ram. I think this issue is BDROM drive related and has nothing to do with the firmware. pimperjonesbut it would still have to read them initially to cache them into the drive right? i dont know the ps3 that well as of yet, but sooner or later it has to get the info from the drive. so for it to be the drive, you would still get those glitches, the cache couldnt really clean them up i wouldnt think. most people have stated their pauses are in the same spot most of the time, doesnt sound like a drive problem. but im not an expert on it, so i would say to call sony
So asmallchild, Did u ever get an email back?? Gage_CreedYup...a rather disappointing reply: "Thank you for writing us. We apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced. The most effective way for us to assist you is by speaking with you directly. Please call our Consumer Services Department at (800) 345-7669. Our representatives are available to assist you, Monday through Saturday 6:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., and Sunday 7:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m., Pacific Standard Time." I figured I'd call them this weekend when I get the time to wait and have them walk me through every single diagnostic test they can think of. I also googled around the Internet and searched Sony's own PS3 boards. It does seem like it's a problem that afflicts lots of people so I believe it's a firmware problem and not a massive hardware problem. I'm also going to try disabling my wireless network connection to see if that helps. (It's a temporary fix that many have been suggesting)
Ok, keep me posted on it, bro. I have the SAME problem and it's REALLY frustrating.Gage_Creeddefinitely definitely haha...gotta agree with you on the frustration as well when everything looks and works so nicely except for the movie playback!
seems a lot of people say they have problem with that one movie. hmmmGzus666
That may be the answer to his problem right there. No, I do not have a blu ray player or a PS3, but still....first things first. Did you try to play any other movies to see if the same thing happened? It may just be the disk, my friend, and NOT your PS3.Â

Gimme a break, do you think all these people who are having this problem all bought defective BluRays, thats a lot of defective BluRay films. As I said before this doesn't just happen on BluRay films it also happens on DVDs. Now don't tell me my DVDs are also defective what a coincidence. So Black Rain, The Conevnant, Hollywoodland, The Departed are all defective, not to mention half a dozen DVDs that I've tried. The answer is never that simple. Trust me the answer ain't The Departed I don't even have The Departed and I'm having this problem.[QUOTE="ironcreed"][QUOTE="Gzus666"]seems a lot of people say they have problem with that one movie. hmmmpimperjones

Sometimes it is just the disk and nothing more, I was merely trying to help, ok? I cannot tell you how many times that I have put a bad DVD in, and just when I thought that it might be my player lemoning out, I tried a few other flicks and there were no problems, leaving the disk to blame.
Anyway, maybe the blu-ray player is faulty, who knows? I was just offering a suggestion....nothing more.
Now if you had bothered to read the entire thread you would have noticed that. Now you come on and say gee whizz maybe its the disk, after I specifically mentioned that I tried multiple disks including DVDs. Don't you think thats being a little condescending. It's bad enough that the issue exists we don't need people giving useless suggestions. Next time read the thread before commenting please.Happens regularly, at least once everyother DVD or BluRay. 3-5 second read error, the image freezes then comes back after 3-5 seconds of pause. It's not just BluRay it happens on DVDs as well, but never happened on any games. Lits of movies that its happened on Black Rain BD - happened second time I watched it Hollywoodland DVD Pearl Harbor BD The Convenant BD etc etc. The PS3's BluRay drive has problems.
ive had the same prob with 2 of my 4 blu rays soooooooooooooo iono but the funny thing is it happened on 2 of them then its just gone away now im not sure whats going on but if it happens again i might be pissed
