I own a 60GB since launch and to be honest never played a PS2 game on it. So I don't really understand why it is so important to everybody else.

I played FFXII back at PS3 launch. I've bought KZ and need to play through it but won't get to it for some time since I have like 5 PS3 titles on my shelf I have yet to put in my PS3 for the first time.

I missed out on lots of PS2 games last gen, games that I'm starting to pick up and play now.

Just because a new generation of consoles starts doesn't mean that great games from the past become irrelevant.

No because my PS3 is 40g and even if it has BC, I would still play PS2 games on PS2. I prefer playing games on its original console.

What a stupid comment they guy is just asking a question!

As for me Iam one of the suckers that bought a 40 gb without doing research! BC is very important to me as I have a huge collection of PS2 games. Games like FFX and Silent Hill, God of War are all worth replaying one of these days. And the graphics of PS2 are not all that bad really. Though I have heard that they look alot worse on PS3 but Iam not sure wheter that's true or something that will be resolved.

I am actually playing ps2 games more often than ps3 games on my ps3. More correctly, my sons are doing so. I have played God of War I and II. My sons are playing the Buzz games, Lego Star Wars I and II, Ben 10, Sly Cooper etc, etc. I think it was a very important function to have. My friends who got the 40 gig version is missing out on a lot of things. With the backward functionality the library of games(and childrens games)really explode. So far the PS3 library is just to thin.

I can understand that you have a huge collection of PS2 games that you haven't finished or started, this is a very logical reason to need BC. But be honest, when the big guns come popping will you still play those PS2 games or try to find a way to cash them in to get the PS3 games?

There's loads of great games out for the PS3. Hell, I have 49 PS3 games and 13 PSN games. However, the PS3 having lots of great games isn't really the issue. Old classics that are still excellent today are the issue.

You say PS2 games will never be discussed after LBP, CoD:WaW, and GoWIII come out, but that's not true at all. Not one bit, actually.

Don't you still hear about Final Fantasy VII? Look at how many amazing games have come out since then. Don't you still hear about Shadow of the Colossus on the PS2? Ocarina of Time on the N64? Chrono Trigger on the SNES? Mario on the NES?

Older games will always have their place. They don't become irrelevant when newer games come out. A huge amount of people, myself included, still care deeply for the games of old.

Again, just because the PS3 is the here and now doesn't mean old games don't matter anymore.

I tend to replay the games I love over time. I played and replayed a lot of PS1 titles on my PS2. And if I had BC with my PS3, I would be playing some PS2 games. Maybe not right now, because I'm busy getting some trophies. But I bought Disgaea 2 right before I ended up getting the PS3 and have barely touched it because I can't be bothered to hook up the PS2. It is out with the rest of my consoles, I just don't like to hook it up. Especially since it means unhooking the Wii.

Are you honestly telling me you don't want to play some Silent hill? Final Fantasy? God of War? NOTHING?

I mean, nobody expects you to play those older games all day long and not play newer games at all. But it does come in handy for people who collect games and don't just throw them out when they get old.

I'm mostly broke so I buy a lot of greatest hits for the PS2 or borrow PS2 games from my friends that are content with their PS3 games.

I'm a big fan of graphics, believe me, but I'm a bigger fan of quality games. The graphics of some of the older games don't stop me from playing old games. I'm currently playing Chrono Trigger for the SNES (re-released on the PS1) and Final Fantasy VII for the PS1.

Those games don't compare to Uncharted, BioShock, MGS4, etc., graphically, but they're some of the best games ever made, and that's why I enjoy them. I enjoyed them back in the day, I enjoy them now, and I'll enjoy them in the future.

Am I going to keep classics forever? Hell yes I am. I made the stupid mistake a number of years ago by getting rid of some of them, but I've since gone back and re-bought many of them, some of which, like a mint condition black label copy of FF7, I paid over $100 for. Fortunately for me I'm in the position to be able to re-buy many of those games, all along supporting my current gen gaming.

Much like some of the old black and white movies, and the best music from back in the day, classic games are timeless. They'll never go away, they'll never be forgotten about, and they'll always hold a place in the hearts and minds of the people who grew up watching them, listening to them, and, in the case of games, playing them.

Speaking about PS2 games, which is specifically what you mentioned, many of those games will be talked about in the same way people talk about PS1, SNES, NES, Genesis, etc. games, now. There are some truly epic games for the PS2 era, ones that are still very much worth playing today.

There's no problem with them not 'doing it for you' nowadays. If they aren't your thing now, it's no biggie, it's your call. I know I went on a large rant here, my apologies, I just wanted to get that out.:P

Anyway, enjoy your gaming.;)

I consider you as a minority in gaming. Not many people would do what you have done. I know who to ask now, when I want to buy an older game.

I don't play my Ps2 games on my Ps3 console, I play them on my Ps2 console. Have not really touched my Ps2 in awhile now, however that will change once Persona 4 and Ar Tonelico II release this December.

Why do you mind so much about the term "Backward Compatibility"?

PS3 games, PS2 games; they are all games. I stilll play SNES games on my PSP; I mean, why not?

Why play ONLY PS3 games when you can play both?

A true gamer love any kind of games as long as it's fun.

Persona 3, GOW 2, Odin Sphere, Okami; just to name a few late PS2 games; you should really try them out if you're a gamer.

I still play GOW 1 and 2 along with a bunch of great RPGs. It's really great that I don't have to use another system to play them.

I own a 60GB since launch and to be honest never played a PS2 game on it. So I don't really understand why it is so important to everybody else.

I found that playing ps2 games using my ps2 on my HDtv made them look terrible, worse than they looked playing them on my old sd tv. Likewise playing DVDs on my DVD player. However, playing ps2 games or dvds on my PS3 with my HD set, made them look better than playing them on my old sd set. You say you would still play them on the original console even if you had the choice, but really would you, when they could look better? Do you still watch dvds on a dvd player? Or do you take advantage of the upscaling by watching them on your ps3? Or maybe you don't have an HD set, in which case none of this makes any difference.

Even if I could which i cant (40 GB/Europe)

I would still play my Ps2 games on the Ps2.

Why you ask? Because i don't want to kill the ps3's laser/optics, and lets face it's a first gen 2xBlueRay drive.

The more you use it the chances of it failing rise. That's why I'll play my older games on the Ps2...

Like I have a choice anyway huh? :D

Most of the game time spent on my PS3 is with PS2 games, MGS4 is the only PS3 game that goes in my system other than PS2 games.

I think what the original poster is getting at is not really that PS2 sucks now but are people still going to play like 50 ps2 games when games like Little Big Planet, Resistance 2, Prince of Persia and so on come out? Anybody who thinks the library is too thin o PS3 might as well say the library is too thin every place because most games are multiplat. I used BC for 3 months after I got my PS3 then I stopped. For the past 3 days I have been playing shadow hearts from the new world. I can understand playing with an older game here and there on the PS3 but the majority of gaming time should be spent playing current gen games. Otherwise why own the system?

Yes. Considering the system cost me as much as it did, I can't afford any PS3 games right now. I've been using the time to sort of re-discover some of the classics in my collection. :)

Sometimes I like to go back and play my older games. Today for instance, I played Wipeout XL (PS), and enjoyed it. It lets also lets me see how the graphics have improved and appreciate the fact I don't have to hook up my PS to play it, when all I need to do in load the disc. 8)

of course. when I first got my ps3 a year ago, I only played ps2 games, since not alot of good games was released at that point... The only ps2 games I have is the metal gear solid series.

But now, it haven't been any ps2 games for a couple of months.

I enjoy my Playstation two games very much on my Playstation three system, because last generation of gaming I only had a the nintendo gamecube. In other terms I use my Playstation three to help me play what I lost last generation.

PS2 games, hell I still play PSone games: FFVII, FFT, Lunar (SSSC and EB), MGS, Syphon Filter. So in response to your question, I also play PS2 games. Backwards compatability is a must for me because it's easy to keep copies of my favourite games around w/o having to lug around the past 8 systems that I've owned.
