Are you completely ignoring the fact that this was a business decision more than anything? By removing the possibly offensive material from the game, the arena for ideological and cultural arguments is no longer in the ACTUAL game. Outside of the game is another story of course... You are failing to miss my point. This was as much a business decision as it was a cultural one. The concern is not which nation broke which nations laws. It is removing the possibility of financial loss because of a mere song. This instance was not a case of censorship. After all you are free to listen to that song, aren't you? The concern was that a message might possibly be communicated, that had nothing to do with the game itself. This game is not just aimed towards you. It is aimed towards everyone including Muslims. You seem to be suggesting that Muslims just not play the game. Well that's called alienating a large chunk of the target audience. Don't you understand yet? DEVILinIRON
You seem to think I DON'T understand the business of it. Yes that's great. Compromise yourself or a product for profit I get that.
It's not about Alienating anyone, if you don't like something you're allowed not to buy it.
Though I think business should be conscious as to not purposely offend anyone, no one should have to walk on eggshells for any potential problem that might maybe arise.
And as far as the concern about one nations laws to another. It matters imo that another nation can censor content that I'm viewing or listening to in my own home half a world away.

im not offended at all. I am, however, disappointed and my faith in the human race and out 'freedom of speech' and democracy has diminshed somewhat. Hell, we might as well recall the Bible because it contains all of the words from the Torah!
Come on people, stop being so PC. Music is creative if it is non offensive- i've heard the song, ive seen the lyrics and no where does it insult the quran, Muslims or any listener.
Well, I'm not a muslim, and I don't claim to know a lot about the religion, so I'm not gonna sit here and say "this is right" "this is wrong" "that was offensive to muslims" etc etc, because its not my place. However, I will say that the majority of the time where you introduce any religious aspect into a game, you're almost asking someone to jump all over it... I remember a similar conversation over Resistance with that scene in a church. So yes, christians will complain about games too... I saw it all over the tv.
Ultimately, I believe it was a smart business move to pull the game while the song's removed, as you offend less people, make more sales, and at the end of the day, that's the only religion Sony worship at... the church of the almighty dollar.

Go ahead and call it censoring if you want it to. But imho this is an act of introspection on Sony's part. You are now ignoring the fact that the game has a sticker right on the front that says E for Everyone. It is obvious that the target audience is everyone. Not E for Everyone in the West that isn't offended by a song that has nothing to do with themselves. The words could definately have been considered offensive and despite what you think are not mere eggshells. More like glass. Finally, what nation are you referring to here? This is not a nation vs. nation thing. It is a company vs. target audience thing.
PS It is about alienating people if your goal is money...
its a stupid reason to delay a game, why not just patch it via internet. or let people know its on there and they can choose not to buy it. if its not even sung n english then what percent of the playing population would be offended 0.05%?? you cant always please everyone and you shouldnt try togrand17
to prove your are wrong and ignorant it is sung in arabic get your facts right
I'm sorry religion is the opiate of the masses. We wouldn't be facing half the conflict in the world today if there wasn't any religion. There is a double standard in this world though. You can question, make fun of, and openly insult every religion other religion especially Christianity and it's OK. God forbid though you insult or question Islam or the Prophet. Muslims need to lighten up this is just ridiculous. Hero3 is an uniformed racist, but there a lot of people who harbor those same feelings. I personally have very little respect for the average Muslim because I don't see the moderates standing up to and speaking out against the extremists that have hijacked their religion. If these were bible quotes there would be no issue and we would be playing LBP on tuesday.

I call it censorship because that's what it is.
I realize it is rated E for everyone. But since when have parents been completely comfortable with video game ratings in the past? E for everyone is based on someone else's opinion not the parent's and shouldn't become a crutch for parents to ignore looking at what content is actually in the game.
Nation vs. nation as in, the company of one nation versus the target audience of a different one. We're now arguing semantics
Switching from eggshells to glass doesn't answer the question, Should a company or anyone avoid comments that although not offensive to their own understanding might perhaps be offensive to someone else on the planet? Even if it's a minority within the "offended" group itself that's actually offended?
Another example, eating beef in America is offensive to Hindu beliefs, should we stop eating cows then?
What happend was a handful of people made the decision for the majority of people. A couple people raised their voices and everyone listened to them above anyone else.
here's the link
There is more than one form of censorship. The only form of censorship that I am concerned about is the kind where no-one is given a choice in the matter. i.e. the government censoring the property of the people. In this case the game was "censored" by it's own creaters. So what is the problem here? They acknowledged there was something within the game, had they known it was there, wouldn't have had it in the first place. The fact is, they didn't know it was there until someone pointed it out...
