If PS3 is doing so badly in Japan..

Why did SOny add to the problem by not producing/securing more games for it? This week we saw it drop below 15.000, and there are no notable games to come out for it in the near future. Very soon it will start dropping below 10,000. Can it ever recover from this?

A short while ago, PSP was stuck in a rut in Japan, with sales routinely in the 18-20k each week. Since early December, i dont think it has dipped below 30k, and i also believe this is the first week for a while where it has dipped below 40k. PSP is the only saving grace (albeit a very small one) for Sony in Japan, often outselling ps3 and ps2 combined.

Heh, the PS3 has almost 3 times the cumulative units sold in 5 months as the 360 had in a year and half.   Once Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, White Knight Story, and Devil May Cry come out you'll see things pick up.

NDS Lite - 79, 897 [1,928,805] units 

Wii - 51,365 [1,041,975] units

PSP - 39, 077 [684,551] units

PlayStation 2 - 17,787 [258,701] units

PlayStaion 3 - 16,889 [353,853] units

Xbox360 - 3,889 [79,013] units

If selling 353,853 a month the ps3 are doind so badly in Japan, the xbox360 selling only 79,013 units is doomed, dont you think? :P

PS3 only problem is their marketing stratagy in terms of games that they have released. Sure Resistence was sweet but that was back in december. Sadly, most of PS3 killer apps won't be around till Christmas which is somewhat smart because that allows parents to go out and purchase a PS3 for their little boys and girls since people complain about the price of a PS3. Anyway; MGS4, Heavenly Sword, Killzone, Warhawk, as well as all the other PS3 titles that'll be released in Q3 and Q4 of 07, sales of the PS3 have a higher probability of selling more units. Sadly we can't really consider DMC4 and Assassin's Creed a killer app because they not execlusive anymore. Since we can't talk FF13 because it won't be out until 08.

But honestly if PS3 were to continue with this "Waiting for Christmas" stratagy before releasing their games PS3 will surely fail. I am a PS3 owner and I love the thing but honestly, I am not going to be waiting around until every christmas to come by in order to buy any good games.

why would somebody buy the PS3 when there are no games? once games start to come out, the sales will go up. look what happened when VF5 came out. the games will come, you just have to be patient.eclipsed4utoo

Price is not the subject. Games are. There was a similar thread a few days ago, and some guys from Japan were saying that Wii has more games that are only for Japan. You know as those games that were only for Japan during the PS 2 era. PS 3 has only got Gundam Musou recently and now they will have to wait for other games such as MH 3.

Price has nothing to do with it, if you never been to Japan you should stop BSing. The PS3 is considered very affordable in Japan, considering that a Roasted Sweet Potato there cost like $10 US. The Japanese aren't buying PS3s cause they have nothing they wanna play on them. Super Japan League Baseball and Super Sexy Girls are not system sellers. White Knight Story can easily push 1-2 million PS3 upon release. Japanese don't like American games, and all there is for PS3 is American games.

I don't recall the Wii having good games at launch. Zelda is all I heard about yet it sold like hot cakes. Price is a factor plus HDTV is not that big in Japan.

when final fantasy 13 comes out they'll all go nuts for ps3, though i dont really like final fantasydboy482

THe Final Fantasy series is more popular in USA than in Japan. The Japanese go crazy over the Dragon Quest series.

The 360 is selling like crap in Japan, which is to be expected. The price is high for Japanese gamers and it doesn't have the games that appeal to them. It being an American system doesn't help it either. We'll see how it does once Lost Odyssey and Cry On comes out.

Correct. DQ is about 3x's more popular in Japan then FF series. DQ is coming to the DS and maybe the Wii after that. FFXIII should help to sell system here in the U.S.
