Hey guys, I've been thinking about this for a while and I was wondering if anyone else felt the same way. One negitive thing regarding the trophy system is how some people seem to instantly judge others depending on their level;

For example - If someone has 700+ trophies with no platinum then they're a "noob", regardless that they might not even care about the system or not.

Another example would be how someone has "no life" just because they have 15+ platinums without knowing anything about that person (it could be a shared account).

Are any of you guys guilty of this? If someone adds you do you check their trophy level straight away?

I couldn't care less about my own trophy or achievement level and I never even thought to check my friends' levels.

I never even think about the system myself. I think my trophy level has been the same for months now and haven't thought about getting anymore at any time.

although i have played a lot of games and finished the story mode of most of them i never really cared to aim for the platinum trophies, if i truly like a game i try to play it again after finishing the single player (story) mode but somehow knowing how it ends and knowing that i have other games, which i haven't played at all waiting steer me away from it most of the times, on second thought i never could finish a game twice... damn you a.d.d... :P

yeah i get your point but if you end up seeing someone who is like level 5 and is playing MW2 chances are its the only game they ever play. Most of my friends only play on MW2. I just can't understand how its the only game they play it just gets boring especially if you used to play COD4 ALOT!

That's true, I used to play COD4 all the time when it was first released, I played it to death and now I don't even want to play MW2.

Same here, I played MW2 online for a few months, but COD4 I played it for a year online, without buying anything else.

And I still have COD4, but MW2 I sold it a few months ago

People who judge others on superficial things are pathetic period however, this is the real world and even in gaming you will have those kind of people. Judging someone on having too many or too little trophies is just pathetic. I personally don't care about how many trophies someone has but I see alot of people who do which is sad as hell.

It gets boring for you not them. People are different. I've seen people who still only play the early Resident Evil games over and over again everyday on their streams.

I hardly have any trophies to speak of, but it's all relative. I have only had my PS3 for a month, so of course I only have a few. Now someone who has been playing since the console came out will have more, it means nothing. But I do strive to get the trophies, it makes the game more enjoyable for me, but I in no way judge a person by what trophies they have.

To me it matters, but to a point

I always look at my friends trophy levels to make sure i have the same trophies as them (or more than them)

In my opinion, the more trophies (doesn't have to be platinums, i dont even have any) you have the more "dedicated" you are to gaming

If i see somebody with a high count, i will automatically think they love gaming and love to achieve all the stuff in the games they play (thus giving them trophies)

but, if i see their psn card and they have an absurdly high trophy lvl and i check thier games and it has cheap Disney games that they plated i will instantly dislike them b/c in my eyes they are "cheating" the system by boosting their lvl

I'm a terrible person because I get a little smug feeling of satisfaction when I notice my friends have a lower level than me, but if they have more than me I tell myself that trophies don't matter anyway.

I do admit, i used to care about my trophies.

What actually put me off was a (real - life) friend of mine that bought several games that i did just because he didn't want me to have trophies he didn't have! That was actually the reason for me renting, and plat'ing Leg-ends of wrestlemania, just to see if he would do it!

Outside of that, the god of war games kinda put me off trophies too, they just threw them at you. it didn't feel like a challenge to be honest.

the only time i care about trophies is when it's a game i absolutely LOVE!

ACII was just begging me to play through it for the plat, as was infamous and bad company 2.

I know they are easy plats for the most part, but it was the satisfaction of getting the plat on a real favourite that made it worth it.

As for other people, what do i care what trophies they have?

what do i care that they platinumedhannah montana and fallout 3 in the same day.

It's a trophy! not a guide to someone's life.

I think you're missing the point of gaming which is to have fun and not collect pointless trophies. I bet you there are people who have been playing games longer then you and have less trophies then you do. They would be more dedicated to gaming then you but less inclined to go after pointless collectibles. Also, games are games whether they are crappy or not so it's not cheating at all.

I've never judged someone by their trophy level, unless they have like 60 platinums, or even 165 like someone:roll:

Anyway, I judge people on how friendly they are :)

I own 233 PS3 games, so it would be easy to get 60 Platinums. What's wrong with that? Hakoom (160 Platinum guy) is using a shared account for what I hear though.

Or he's a hacker, there is many platinum glitches that I've heard people using, but anyway, getting 60 platinums iseasy?? It would take a hell of a long time to attempt that.

Most of the single player games I have don't have very hard Platinums to achieve. I just don't have the want to go Platinum hunting. It's the games with multiplayer that take a long time to Platinum as of right now though there are around 80 single player games with trophies.

Nah, I love gaming and having trophies make it so much better for me

b/c i have PROOF that i beat Uncharted 2 on the hardest difficulty, i have PROOF i collected all the Blast Shards in Infamous. Makes gaming a whole lot better for me b/c i can compare myself to my fellow gamers and upon seeing that somebody else has more trophies than me in a game i can push myself harder to get those trophies

And, even if a gamer is more "dedicated" than me they would still have a considerable amount of trophies b/c there are Tons of story based trophies that you would get in a regular playthrough, so they would still have a considerable amount of trophies.

Even if its not cheating it would be pointless for me to compare lvls with a person like that b/c they played kid games (im not talking about crappy games im talking about kid games that are designed for kids to play) to boost their trophy lvl

You do realize there are many factors like income etc... that dictate how many games a person can buy and play. Also, Trophies didn't come out until June 2008 so, if someone just buys a PS3 and goes back and plays older PS3 game there are no trophies. There are adults who like "kid" games like Harry Potter etc... and may want to play such games. You loving trophies is fine however, it doesn't make you a better gamer then anyone else because you have more or harder ones is what I am saying. My friends don't care about trophies and get the bare minimum of trophies you get for playing a game that has them. If you're in a competition with friends it's all in good fun but if you're just doing that with a random person it's fail becuase you don't know their gaming habits.

I don't care about my trophy level or others' trophy level. If a trophy comes, it comes. If I want to platinum a game, I'll try to platinum it. Simple as that.

It doesnt matter how Many games they got trophies for, it matters (for me) how many trophies they got for that one game, they could only have 4 games but they could have plated those 4 games, which would make me think they must really love that game to platinum it.

if they play games before 2008 thats fine, I check the person for the later games (and see if what difficulty they beat UC2 for example) I still love to go back and Play MGS 4 from time to time

Harry potter is NOT a kids game, i love those games. a KIDS game is a game like a Barbie game or UP (or another Disney Movie game)

And i compare games mostly against my friends b/c i love being competitive with them, also comparing trophies does make me feel better for example..

Say im playing MW2 and i keep getting killed by the one guy who ends up getting a Nuke, after the games he starts yelling saying how "elite" he is, i can then look up his trophy card and see that he only plays MW2 and only has like 2 trophies, therefore i can tell that he only plays this game and it makes me feel "better" that im getting owned by this type of person

MushroomWig

you used to knock me in the dirt for the plats i had.

I don't check others trophies, except to see if they have a game i could play with them. Never considered a person with low trophies but probably someone who doesn't spend mass amount of time playing games. Big trophies hunters are usually just in it for boosting online anyways, they don't care too much to enjoy a game that gives no benefit. My status on my ps3 now says "retired trophy hunter" i gave it up. Trophy hunting just takes too much time and forces you to play some bad games with not much reward.

I took my brother-in-laws advice and moved back to playing xbox live with him and all my friends and i can say playing Crackdown 2 last night for 4 hours with friends was greater than any trophy i could ever get.

Still feel trophies are fun to get and for me they were gaming. It was like double the fun by going for all the trophies, but i had to spend double the time if not longer on each game to get this.

Too each their own, arguing about someone who goes for trophies is about as useless as anyones opinion. Boils down to what you like and not what others think.

Most of the people that say "gamer A has no life" are just hating. I've had so many idiots say the same thing to me but I work a fulltime job and I am a musician/director for 3 churches and cruise 2 - 3 times a year.

For me trophy collecting is just like a hobby. I play/buy the games I want to enjoy the experience. After that then I got for the platinum. If I start to get frustrated with it I set it down and move on to the next game and then come back to that game latter like Bioshock 1 or Mirrors Edge.

Why anyone is trying to tear down how someone else games or reason why they do what they do is stupid and THAT is sad.

I'll judge people by what I want you toothless old fruit!

But seriously...

I do look at peoples bronze:silver:gold:platinum ratio to see what type of gamer they are. I have friends that play a lot of games but tend to skim through them and move onto the next. I also have friends who don't buy many games but will play the games they own at a greater depth, often having several playthroughs. I sometimes look at trophy data to see what kind of player people are but I'm not judgemental about it, it's more out of curiousity, really - I'm fine with both.

I'm with moondoggy, I simply check the trophy set to see if someone has similar tastes in games, and if there are any other titles we might play some MP on, or whatever... I come from the land before trophy where personal satisfaction was all you got out of finishing a game (and sometimes less). I guess if anything, when I see a crushed trophy list I think "You poor sod, you must be unemployed. I hope life improves for you soon."

I use trophy count as a general indication of the person's play style, game preference, and skill, but I'm not going to overgeneralize and say anyone with no platinums is a noob, same as someone with a bunch of trophies/platinums has no life.

What I want to know is who actually does that? I haven't met one person who judges another based on trophies. I wish, I hope, I pray I meet someone who judges mine just so I can tell em off big time.

good god i agree with this!. there's this girl on my friends list that plays COD4 all friggin day 24/7, and she's like a lvl 4 (i think). its like she bought the system just for that game alone which is sad.

Chances are she'll get bored soon enough and use it to play something else. :)

i personally cant stand it when ppl say "you have no life cause you have so many trophies" and yet there's a lot more ppl that have many more trophies than me, i look at it as they're jealousof the amount of trophies i have and just afraid to admit it, cause they know i'm better than them for that (only applies to ppl that think that)

You have more than me, loser!! :P Just kidding. Its ridiculous to say someone doesn't have a life because they have a lot of trophies. I've earned tons of trophies simply by playing through the games.

I personally enjoy getting trophies and comparing them with other people sometimes, but I know they don't meen much as far as skill goes for the most part. Trophies are more about dedication than skill. There are plenty of trophies that require skill, but still there's no reason to "judge" people by the amount of trophies they have.

[QUOTE="Kennyb324"]

You seem to counter yourself here. One you said a lot of trophies = dedication to gaming; but on the other hand you say a lot of trophies on 'cheap Disney games' = cheating the system. I'd dare to say that no matter what games you get lots of trophies on, you're still dedicated to gaming. Who are you to say that certain games have trophies that are worth more than others? I personally don't judge people by trophies, but it does drive me crazy when people just goes through games and gets the easiest trophies just to have them (i.e. Remix a mod, kart, and track - just changing the color of 1 item on each and re-publishing them online) rather than actually getting the trophy as parting of your gaming experience. I feel there is a difference between "trophy hunting" and "earning trophies", but thats just me.

lol, I don't check trophy levels. That's lame.

I've only ever checked to see if people have the WipEout platinum... I'm currently the only person on my friends list who has it. I couldn't give a less rat's ass about other trophies.

Bad? More like "sad". I couldn't care less either way. If someone cares that much about trophies, the fact remains "joke's on them".

That's true, I used to play COD4 all the time when it was first released, I played it to death and now I don't even want to play MW2.
