What a disappointment. I can't tell you how excited I was for this game, but I have been let down. How could a game six years in the making lack simple things like the ability to upgrade one's brakes (one of the most important parts of any racing car)? And no Porsche??? I've never, EVER played a racing game without Porsche being represented; they are one of the most revered auto manufacturers in the world for God's sake. Finally, and this is the real kicker, I feel that about 75% of the cars are just a waste. Only the premiums are worth the time or money, and there really aren't that many of them. Does anyone else feel cheated by Polyphony?

I was trying to sell mine as well but I think I might keep it. The only issue I have is loading and yes the loading is so bad it ruins the game for me.

Call me crazy but most of my favorite vehicles like the Lamborghini Countach or RUF BTR YellowBird or Viper GTS are standard vehicles lol :P

I don't care for the premium models really at all...the used car lot is where you see the new and exciting stuff lol

I personally love the game and will be playing it for a long time...I just have one question. When does the liscenses count for something?

If you only thought the premium cars were worth the time/money, then 80% of the cars were a waste considering the ratio is 4 to 1 (standard to premium). Anyways, you're not the only one. I didn't buy the game because I spent 60 bucks on AC:Brotherhood earlier and didn't want to buy another game until I got some more money. But now I'm not going to buy it at all. A few friends of mine did the same thing. They bought it and sold it a few days later. It's a bit of a shame if you ask me.

The standard models aren't all that new, though - they're mostly from GT4 with a sprinkling of GTPSP cars. I've raced all the ones that matter before, and the rest of them I'd never drive (unless I somehow get a hankering to own a dozen different kinds of cappucinos, thirty Skylines, and twenty Miatas.

Damn. I didn't notice there is no premium RUF in the game, just a handful of standard models. I'm assuming that's what you meant as technically I don't think there has EVER been a licensed "Porsche" in the Gran Turismo games. But there have been RUF cars which were based on Porsche chassis. Technically not a "Porsche" though. IF you didn't know that I guess you are new to the series. Still, no premium models of any RUF SUCKS because those were some of my favorite cars to drive in past GT games and i was looking forward to the interior view on those.

Anyway that is indeed another head scratcher with some of the cars that ARE premium. But the high points of the game still outweigh all these nagging issues. I won't be done with this game for a LOOONNNG time and there are at least a good number of unique cars to drive. It's just too bad there are all these glaring holes on a game that took 5 years. Some of these are just like absolute "WTF" head scratchers for the Gran Turismo series. I hope they didn't intentionally gimp the roster of premium cars with plans on offering tons of DLC. If they start cranking small packs of premium cars as overpriced DLC I will be extremely disappointed. If months from now they offer some huge pack of like 100 more cars for $10 than I would be quite pleased indeed.

The installation was HUGE, but after installing the loading isn't too bad for me. No worse than other games. Slight pause between menus and maybe 30 seconds to load a race. It's only annoying me a little in the really short races (i.e. license tests, and the rally stages). I just got NFS shift as well and the loading times are about the same in that one, the difference with NFS shift is they offer some scrolling "tips" and pointers while you are waiting, whereas GT5 offers you a loading bar and some elevator music (which is the series standard afterall ;). BTW Shift is a pretty solid game and the racing is pretty fun, the opponent driver AI is most definitely alot in that game than Gran Turismo, so it easily offers better "racing".. However the driving and precision of the cars is not even close. I'm sure I'll enjoy that game just fine, but Shift is a game I'll probably be done with in a few weeks worth of playing. GT5 is probably a game I will probably be playing on and off for YEARS. When you first load up that Nuremburg track with the Classic 50's Mercedes SL, you know that the best moments of GT5 are just on an entirely different level. My jaw hit the floor.

Don't forget about the trophies too!! @TC: I can see where you're coming from considering the time they took developing this game. Polyphony should've known most fans of the series would go over this one with a fine toothed comb, and be devastated over anything that's not up to par. I don't have the game, but from what I've seen at a friend's house I'm hoping I get it for Christmas. Sure, it would be nice if every car looked as good as the premiums and had fully rendered interiors... but I want to race and complete objectives not stare at my virtual ride on my TV. So, the things that have "left out" don't really bother me too much.

. I did not know that about the Porsche fiasco, it's been years and years since I played a GT title. I was coming over from (disclaimer: I intended this thread as a discussion about GT 5 only, not a flame war or comparison thread for Forza, so let's not go there) Forza 3 where Porsche is fully represented. They are also in Need For Speed and every other racer I've ever played Why aren't they in GT? Liscensing issues? Seems odd, because making a racing game without the Panamera or 911 Turbo *drools a little* is a crime against car lovers.

Even that is pressing it, I'd say a 7.5 is more accurate in light of the flaws and omissions. The awful, awful menus bring it down at least a point and a half by default, and the liscenses easily knock off another .5, and that's before the other issues are even considered. I don't like dropping $70 on 7.5 games that were touted as being "the next big thing for blank genre." That's why I am so irritated with Poly and Sony for stealing half my mula.

Because the video game world said it would be awesome. But seriously I agree. To the TC, I'm sorry you didn't enjoy GT5. I haven't been able to put it down since I got it. I agree that there are things that could have been done better, but the physics are excellent and that's what mattes to me when it comes to the genre. To each their own though.

Great story bro, maybe you could write a blog one day.

Obviously your not a car enthusiast, or you would have given GT5 a go more than a week, thats if you even played it that long. Its not your standard arcade racer, which has a boring linear story, with cars that go around corners at 200kph. Its not a simple racer which anyone can pickup, you need to put in time to learn every car.

I am in the same boat as you TC, I was so looking forward to this game, but it greatly disappointed me. I will most likely sell it too, its sad to see how low GT has fallen, especially if they come up with this after so many years of development.

That's unfortunate for you OP, I'm having the best time with the game and it wil last me for a looong time. Cockpit view is overrated, hood or bumpercam is where it's at for real driving.

NFS: Hot Pursuit has both Porsche and Lambo. I don't remember any GT game having Porsche in it though. They've had the RUF cars in the game which is a Porsche under all the mods.

I m going to give my copy a bit of time, maybe they realse some relevant updates that help the overall feeling of the game, but i agree with you TC 6 years lots of money and they couldnt get things right, its a shame really, where did all that time *polishing the game* went? the game feels broken, but it plays good thats why i m keeping it for a bit longer.

How much did you get for it?

I'm enjoying the game a lot, but it falls miles short of what we were led to expect. An 8.0 is a fair score and I too am left wondering what they were doing for over 5 years. There's no innovation whatsoever - it's just GT4 in hi-def. I haven't seen AI cars act as stupidly as these do since the days of the PS2. 80% of the cars were just ported over from the PS2 or PSP, and some of the tracks don't look like they got much more attention either. And since they apparently just set out to remake GT4 in hi-def, where are all the rest of the tracks? I guess we would have had to wait until 2015 for those. The menus are a clunky mess too.

But there's lots of cars and if you modify them to the point where they're fast enough to stay out of the vicinity of the brain dead AI cars, the driving is fun.

You really feel cheated if you knew only 200 premium cars were going to be in it? If you knew that why are you complaining? Everyone knew the score months if not years before it was released....

Sorry? I have hundreds upon hundreds of hours logged in racing games... You can't shrug off a game's issues by insulting the person who made the topic.

@TC

Thanks, BRO. You're right, I had no idea what a sim racer was until GT5 hit, I've been playing only NFS and Mario Kart for my entire life. Leave the condescension at home next time, I probably have more time logged in sim racers than you do. As far as me not being a car enthusiast, I most certainly am. However, I am also a game enthusiast. GT5 is nothing more than a mediocre to below average gaming experience, so no amount of vehicles or extras (OOOOH, Kart racing!!! How simulation of you!!) can make up for that. If I just wanted to look at pretty cars, I could simply pick up a mag at the grocery store or buy a calender. I want to PLAY my games, though, and a game that forces me to rerace events to the point of tedium, complete absolutely ridiculous liscensing events from last gen, and play modes that I am not interested in to make money (Kart racing and NASCAR are awful and I shouldn't feel obligated to play them to level up, and rally has been done far better elsewhere), is not very fun. You enjoy staring at the cars in the game and not paying attention to what actually makes it a game, no amount of content can make up for the lack of inspiration that sucks the life out of this game.

I only got 25 bucks for it, the guy at Gamestop said they've been flooding back in since release so they aren't giving much for it.

Nope, only paint, and you have to buy that as you level up. How's that for six years of dev time?

Despite it's flaws (like the mysterious disappearance of upgrading brakes) I won't be selling my copy. The driving is solid, and in a driving game that's what matters most.

My roommate has been playing GT4 again, and we both were commenting how we like the way it looks just fine. We use bumper-camera settings so who needs to see the car I'm riding in, what counts is how it HANDLES. People are complainers.

"Oh there's no Porche (woop-dee-do), and the Mercedes only comes in Black, and there's only two of the models neither of which I like and there's no brass plate on the dash in my Enzo proclaiming me the King of Small Junked Men Everywhere... It took six years, no one LOVES ME..."

I agree with the post about wanting a pat on the back or a hug, why do you think we care about how put-upon you feel about the decision to spend your money on a game? Seriously? I think the car that's really missing around here is the Whhhaa-mbulance...

Sell the game and Shut It, already. I'm loving it.

I find it very telling that you accidentally refered to GT5 as GT4.
