watching the interview really dropped a lot of hype i had for the game. sure it looks pretty.. but the dragon on dragon battles... Kinda hurt my feelings. especially when the camera shifted behind the two dragons.. and the whole battle between the two dragons just looked corny as hell. and then when the two closed in on each other... i don't know.. i just wasn't feelin it.LINKAFIED
everything else about the game was hype but... Lair being a AAA? I really don't think so. especially if the dragon vs dragon is supposed to be the seller for the game and it really looks corny.
i know what i think.. but what say ya'll?
head over to IGN and watch the interview

hopefully a demo will be released soon so i can try the game.. but.. here's hopin they change the battle system for the dragons up a bit.
otherwise, i have a feelin it's gonna be a very lookin pretty game with garbage gameplay thing...

That fotage is from the TGS gameplay, so just wait till they show how the gameplays right now before you judge it

Dragons fireing fireballs at each other and jumping from dragon to dragon and kiling them seems fun to me.....            But i see ur point who knows wat they'll do with the game? Drakenguard came out good.
Imagine you are in the air, on a dragon, killing people on the ground and battling dragons in the air, sounds like fun, now replace the dragon with a space craft and well you get WARHAWK, another simmilarity is that you can get off of you dragon or you plane and fight people on the ground. If i had to choose between Warhawk and Lair, I'd choose LAIR 4 sure.

Yeah but we don't have to choose we're getting the both of them unless you don't have enogph mouny
The gameplay for the game has always been what was suspect... but it's Factor 5 and the concept is hot, so in the very least I do expect the game to be AA... which will still be worth getting.
Those are all pretty old footage too... I'm sure they've been polishing up the gameplay since then but the dragon fights weren't particularly lame to me... I just think they need a smoother transition into them. Looks kinda jerky. But if that's my worst complaint about the game then I'll be happy.

All eye candy, no variety. I really hate the way they've reduced the hijacking to just pressing one button every few seconds.
if you look at the trailers title, it states (game footage: nov. 2006), so this isnt exactly up to dateGzus666It's the most up to date we're going to get until E3 in July, unfortunately.
To be honest, we've not seen much at all about Lair. All we've seen is a very, very tiny snippet of the game and we all know the story is going to be way huge. We've only seen very old gameplay even when it came out at TGS it looked like what was shown was a little old. Developers tend to do that sometimes.
If I were to put a % on what we've seen of the game I would say it's not even 1% of the game. I have a feeling this game is going to be massively epic in all sense of the word. I've been gaming for over 20 years so guys like me tend have a decent idea when a game is going to be just off the chain. This game is going to be sick! and I feel it's story will be a very big part of it's success. We'll just have to wait and see but for me it's a no brainer.

i don't get how do you want them to fight. what you want then land on the ground and fist fight. lol ther frigen dragons not people. you don't think dragons would colide in the air tring to bump them out. i think your just looking for a movie game were the action is done for you to make it look prittier. for me i want to control the action.GARRYTHHe's talking about the awkwardness of the animations. In a generation where games are capable of such fluid and natural animations (i.e. Assassin's Creed), Lair's animations look positively archaic.

Maybe our expectations of the game were different from the very beginning.... b/c I just watched that interview and I'm actually more excited about the game now than I was before. The combat was a little rough, but for the most part it looks good.
My main concern was that the game was going to be shallow and repetitive. Well he just put those fears to rest. First of all, with the dragon combat, he said that there will be traditional fighting controls which means it isn't just simple button mashing. Also, he disclosed that the more dragon battles you get in, you will unlock more combos and abilities for your own dragon. And the fact that there will be different dragons available later in the game is also pretty exciting. He says that there is a focus on progression so that your dragon will feel stronger as the game progresses... and that was my biggest concern.
But the biggest thing I think they are doing well is including an interesting backdrop. They are focusing on making sure the game has a good story.... and I honestly thought that was going to be one piece that was lacking from this game. I'm really looking forward to this game's release now.

Yea but the gameplay mechanics are fine... did you watch the entire interview? There is quite a bit that they are putting into the gameplay mechanics. The animations are the only thing I think could use some polishing and I'm sure they'll tighten it up.
Anybody remember Panzer Dragoon Orta (hopefully I got the name correct) on Xbox? Gamespot rated it like 9.0+ and almost nobody played it. I played it, it's an OK game, but far inferior to zone of enders 2. Why? because Panzer Dragoon Orta was just about shooting shooting and shooting more on a freaking rail!
As long as Lair doesn't repeat the same fate as Panzer Dragoon Orta's, as long as Lair offers freedom and a variety of combat mode (like close range combat, long range combat, and different firing mode), then it'll be a good game.
In fact, even if Lair is exactly like Panzer Dragoon Orta, Gamespot will give it a good score. And also let's face it, every shooting game, be it air-to-air shooting, or a first person shooting, or any kind of game that's about shooting, game play is bound to be repetitive anyway.
Also, with all the talk about animations & gameplay mechanics... I think it's worth noting that this is going to be the most realistic dragon game we've ever been given anyway.
We're all excited b/c it's a next gen dragon game, but even he said they can't fit everything they want to do into this one (we'd be waiting for another year).... but as long as this one is a success, they already have some things they are going to make sure they implement in the 2nd one (like a robust online mode).
no other game like lair?No they don't. Drakengard can't even start to compare to the epic scale of Lair.
apparently drakengard 1 and 2 don't count.

LAIR is GOTY candidate. The TC is trolling the game because it cant be done on the 360.mskrft007I hear you dude.

I'll believe it when I see it. I'll believe it when I see it. I'm still optimistic, but cautiously so.how many people know exactly what i'm talkin about?First, you seem to be locked into this notion that the ramming fight mechanic is the meat of the game when it's just a small portion of gameplay which no doubt can be smoothed out later but even in the state we've seen it, it's not bad for a new IP. Secondly, Drakengard's gameplay was a very straight forward action adventure, good but ...; Lair is more like the game is playing an RTS with it's self and you're just trying to help your side win.
from the interview where they show the dragon battles? I'm not talkin about what's he saying. i'm talkin about the game. "the flight and fight mechanic" that whole section..
"where you fly side by side in pursuit mode, and ram the dragon."
that.. that! it's what's hurting my feelings right now. watch that whole section.. it needs more. that.. pursuit mode just isn't cuttin it. the tumble is fine... it's just what initates it that needs work.
and by the way.. i just need to know. how is it that drakengard doesn't count? the premise for both games are the same. and it's still a dragon game. how does it not count?
kelindas02
Panzra dragoon was a good game but I don't get how it was considered superb by GS. It was an OK shooter but if you're into dragons I'm sure you felt the same as I did with the whole plasma balls and laser beams from the dragons. It was also very linear. A good game but we've been longing of a true dragon game and this one seems to be it in all regards.
Anyone who likes this sort of dragon gameplay would be giving the developers very bit of good luck vibe they can so we may have a chance of experiencing even better gameplay for Lair 2 not over exaggerating one simple game mechanic as the make or brake and down fall of the IP.
what kind of fans are you? it seems like your trolling yourselves on this one..i think this game looks fantastic and about the gameplay. well. ive never played it and neither have you guys. why? because its not OUT yet. so b4 u judge a game by what the gameplay looked like months ago just sit back and watch it develop until it comes out. then either rent it or buy it and then and ONLY then can u judge it.Uzburacuz9
