Sony is crazy with the price of the 16GB & 32GB sticks. I wont to buy a 16GB or 32GB card but I am not paying 90.00 bux for it. I bought my 4GB card last year for 40.00 it was an upgrade from a 1GB. With PSN now selling downloadable games, movies, tv shows, comic books & music, us PSP owners are going to need MORE SPACE. 90.00 for a 16GB stick is the same price as 4 games. Keep in mind I have to pay for the games as well. Sony needs a better price for the Sony Memory Sticks, and I am not talking about the bootleg sticks, I mean the real Sony Memory Stick Duo. Does anyone else feel like this about Memory Stick Duo?? What would be a more fair retail price to you??Ive reached my limit on my 4GB and want more stuff from PSN, but just to buy more things from PSN I have to pay 90 bux?? Thats not right.

You don't have to buy from Sony, You can use like a SanDisk one or so. They about 5-10$ cheaper :). Haha. But you really got no choice in the matter, either buy one or stop buying games. I got 2-4GB memory cards, So i'm fine

Well when you think about it you're getting 4 times the space for about half the price it would be

4x4 = 16 _ 40 x 4 = $160 _ 16gb = $90

Look out for sales. I got my 4gb memory stick for 20 bucks :P

I have to wait for a price drop, not paying 90 for 16Gb thats a wrip off. That why I said they need to lower it now, because the PSN selection was never as diverse as it is now. So keeping them high priced is hurting their cash and my options.

Yes, the large sticks go way up in price, it's a shame. But for the moment I don't really need a lot.

where are you guys buying your sticks from? I got my m2 from newegg 16gbs for $65.00 USD and no shipping charge. You need to look around. Its usually more expensive at a brick and mortor retail space like best buy or target, while newegg, frys, and amazon have it 20% cheaper and 100% authentic.

I totally agree. The only reason I have a 16 gig is because I lucked out and found one for $40 on ebay.

16GB was $40 on Amazon a while back - might still be. Sure, it's a Lexar branded card, but as far as I know they manufacture the Sony ones themselves so it's no loss. Well, except for Sony, who won't get the massive profits from you buying their overpriced card.

I'm taking it that you have a PSP 3000 or older model, yes? Because I just checked on newegg for m2 sticks for my Go (which are supposed to be more expensive) and a 16gb card was $63 with free shipping. They had one of the older pro duos for $46 (16gb), but it's currently out of stock.

Naturally. They're like the hard disks for PSP. You store everything on them so they're the most important and cost more money.

My thing is why have more than one sticks?? The prices of the 16GB and the 32GB are way too high and should come down. You gamers do not have an issue with the price of the Memory Sticks in REGULAR retail? We should not have to seek special deals when the SDHC Cards made by Secure Digital are no where near what a Memory Stick cost...Its just storage yall, it should be cheaper now. It 2010.

The difference in price between special deals and regular retail for 4Gb was 3 euros here. And for those 3 euros I did not want to risk stumbling on one of the many many fakes going around on the net. So that price is ok for me.

How about getting those micro sd to memory stick pro duo converters? I have one and it takes two microsd cards. Put two 8gb microsd cards to get 16gb total and my psp thinks i have a memory stick pro duo.

$20 for each 8gb micro sd card plus $7.50 for the converter. $47.50 for 16gb of flash storage for my psp 3000.

I think the Go is a rip off. A 3000 can be had for as little as $169 (I even got mod nation bundle for $150) coupled with even an expensive memory stick pro duo would be cheaper than the go. The cost drops further with microsd cards and the adapter.

What he means is that he likes the Go's internal storage capacity. That's probably the main reason why it's more expensive, but you can't complain with 16GB of storage. I have the same on my 1000, but I'm afraid it's not a deal that will help you, I got it as a birthday present, I think it was on sale for 90$ at Future Shop last year, an official Sony, all the same.

That's not a particularly great deal when a 16GB card can be purchased for $40, though. It's also less reliable and slower.

yeah . i bought one of those converter-type memories , and sometimes my camera can't detect it. i thnk due to the 'contact' (or lack of) between the memory card and the converter.

my recommendation is Sandisk, I believe someone already said that, I also recommend Sandisk you can get them in most electronic shops

and I agree tha the memory cards are way overpriced and you don't even get all the memory advertised, both of my 2 gigs are 1.8 gigs it's really um how should I put this, its false advertiseing! LOL

Well I dont have a beef with being short changed on exact space...its always a rounded off number. Now that I am aware of all the cool stuff on PSN i want to load up on files, but just to get a 16GB card at target is 93 bux And I have not even seen the 32GBsticks in retail yet. When I bought my PSP in 2007 the 4G stick was like 75bux. I finally filled my 1G and had to upgrade, by the time i got my 4G stick it was only 44bux. I know the price goes down in time, but man...still Im ready to upgrade now...mainly because of PSN, but the price is way high...I may have to take a chance on a bootleg brand...

As a matter of fact, I had a 4GB fake stick from Ebay before this. It worked fine in the beginning, I noticed no speed difference, but the one problem was that it would constantly corrupt my save data, then go on to corrupt my games and even music. It got to the point that it's useless now. I can't even format it, and if I do manage to, the files are corrupted on it in minutes. I don't know if that's the case for everyone, but that's my personal experience.

Buying an official stick will ensure you're getting all the speed and quality, even with a Sandisk stick, there could be a bit less speed, who knows? I know Sony is more expensive, but I've always been impressed with the quality of Sony's hardware. It's your call, but personally, I trust Sony.

I did a bit of research, and all I could find was a collaboration with Lexar on the development of the original Memory Sticks from Sony. Now, I think all brands of MSPDs are just licensed by Sony. Could you confirm this?

Oh, I wasn't sure, I just remembered reading something - could be what you referenced, for all I know. I've never had an issue with off-brand cards, though. With Memory Sticks it's just a bit weirder as Sony was the one pushing the format in order to force people to buy it. I mean, Lexar and Sandisk are both pretty decent brands when it comes to portable storage.

I suppose you're right, getting official Sony products might matter for hardware such as the actual electronics(TVs, MP3 players), but for storage media, you're probably better off buying a less expensive brand like Lexar or Sandisk. Sony doesn't even offer a warranty beside extra ones you pay extra for, there's really no reason to buy official Sony media.

Actually, you're right, but with Sony it's all about sound quality. Their TVs have better sound than a lot of sets, so do their MP3 players. Another thing I like is the fact that almost all Sony hardware has very streamlined intercompatibility.

Sony doesn't even offer a warranty beside extra ones you pay extra for, there's really no reason to buy official Sony media.

Well, no...their TV's still aren't as good as Samsung or Panasonic, and their MP3 player is garbage. o_o

I thought the PSP was Sony's mp3 player lol??

Coolyfett

Absolutely not(the PSP is Sony's media player:)), Sony has many more devices out there, the entire Walkman brand is for MP3 players.

Memory Sticks are proprietary media unlike plain old SD, micro SD, CF, etc cards meaning, they only work with the products of the company that originally created them. In this case, the company in question is Sony. As a result of this exclusivity, they are expensive. I used to own a Clie and a Cybershot camera back when Memory Sticks first came around and as far as I have followed Sony's products, their proprietary Memory Sticks - no matter who manufactures them legitimately (I'm not counting bootleg versions here) - have always been on the more expensive side compared to similar storage media methods. Where I don't enjoy paying additional money, Sony is far from being the only company who engages in this practice of putting out products that exclusively work only with the company's products. Think of it this way. If you have an Apple computer of any sort and you need to get a new power cord, what kind of a power cord do you need to get (that isn't a bootleg)? An Apple-branded power cord, of course. And if the same Apple product needs a new battery, what kind of a battery would you replace it with (that isn't a bootleg?)? An Apple-branded battery, of course.

Yeah, Sony is crazy with this stuff. Like the PSP Go, not only is it insanely overpriced, you can't even use your old PSP memory stick to add memory to it. You have to buy a separate and smaller, PSP Go memory stick which costs extra! :o Sony always does this. It gets me angry.

Ha, a 32GB Memory Stick costs around 300$ dollars in Mexico. You are lucky.
