MGS4 over rated, over hyped, over here..

hell no, mgs4 deserves its creditbility, the game is a challenge, but never frustrating (unless youre going for big boss emblem than that is a different story), the gameplay is awesome, the graphics are realistic and the audio of it makes the game feel alive. and the story-line is greater than most hollywood movies, so no, it is not overrated. if you want an overrated game, check out Bioshock!

I think tons of games are overhyped/rated.

It's just you. MGS4 is too good of a game to put "overrated" next to.

The reason MGS4 is so heavy on narrative is because it can be; unlike 95% of video games, people are interested in its plot. When you go to a movie you are expecting a movie. When I play a game, I don't expect a movie, I expect a GAME. I like MGS 4, but your first paragraph is a pretty stupid comparison.

When I go to a Metal Gear game I am expecting great cinematics with great gameplay, maybe even an interactive movie, or a cinematic game, you choose. I know what to expect, as do all die-hard Metal Gear fans, which is why we love them.

I think you meant GTA4. That is overrated.

MGS4 isn't for everyone. If your type of game is a run n gun shooter with a lame story, then MGS isn't for you.

Admittedly, it was a good game when I played it. Second playthrough, still good.But when it i discussed to absolute death, when it's all everyone EVER talks about, when people have played it through 100s of time because they simply cannot refuse to accept other games exist, thats when things become stupid.

And the amount of MGS fanboyism in this forum is what annoys me. What game has best replay value? MGS4. What is the best platformer? MGS4. Who is your favourite character from Heavenly Sword? Raiden from MGS4. You know what I mean, sometimes it just gets stupid, yes it's a good game, but seriously, it's not THAT good.

I honestly have no interest in the game, but that's because I don't really care for the genre. Just not my thing. I'm sure it's a fine game though.

It got a 10 here for a reason. Because it's good.

Now, not everyone will like the game, but that doesn't make it less good.

I was a great game when there was action, otherwise it was quite a slow game with the extremely long cutscenes. I admit though, I thought it was slightly over rated.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots overrated overhyped? are you serious? well, it is YOUR opinion. Frankly, some people wouldn't know a good game if it was put right in front of them and itscreamed "I am an excellent game!" IMO MGS4=one of the best games ever made.

The only problem I had with MGS4 was it took place in to many locations that were vaugely connected (ie not in walking or driving distance). I would have prefered the MGS2 formula with one warm up location and eventually a more massive location. I still say MGS2 is the best in series but MGS4 was definately worth it. If MGS4 is overrated it's because people probably have developed a level of expectation thats virtually impossible to reach however it's definately worth the 10 that Gamespot gave them (where as some people might be expecting the game to be an 11 or 12).

Well considering everybody has personal taste and opinion, MGS isn't for everybody.

Much like how a lot of people like Legend Of Zelda, but I don't like it at all. Despite trying every version. Never appealed to me.

mgs4 is fanfare. i can understand someone not knowing the depth of the series, not liking the game. but this game is to tie off loose ends. and also, this game is the most run and gun game in the mgs series.

wind waker anyone would like wind waker, great game. also majoras mask was epic. ocarina had the best story, but majoras was crazier.

I've never been able to get into the series so I wouldn't be able to tell you if it's overrated or not.
