What do you think? I felt Far Cry 2 had all the makings of a really good game but was let down by a number of unecessary elements. GTA 4 I also felt was worse than expected, not bad just not what I had really wanted from the game, a bit too dark and sluggish. Another one would be Killzone 3, not because I didn't like it, I just felt it was the same as Killzone 2 in a lot of respects and worse in others such as storyline; the single player also seemed to rely on visuals rather than engrossing gameplay and character development, not to mention the abrupt ending.

Any games that spring to mind?

Final Fantasy XIII. Seriously, most disappointing game of any generation. Just sit back, press X, and let the computer play the game for you.

Oh yeah this too, couldn't finish it, barely playable in my opinion, everything's changed so much since FFX, can you believe that was over 10 years ago?

Lair and Heavenly Sword stand out for me. They weren't BAD games but considering the hype they received they were disappointing.

in my opinion infamous. to repetitive in side missions. it seemed average, for all the hype that was attached to it.

GTA4

Rockstar had access to a 25GB Blu-Ray storage with 1080p resolution and much higher CPU power. However, in order to cut cost they based the development on Xbox 360 version and just port it over to PS3 so in the end the PS3 version of GTA4 runs below 720p, crappy view distance, crappy sound quality, low texture, poor framerate. What a POS...

Followed by assasins creed 1 and 2, those games are just the epitome of unrealised potential for me, not bad games by any means but could have been SO much better

It was only entertaining on veteran when you played local co-op anything but takes forever and gets boring fast to me

I played online co-op with a friend, we completed it multiple times, it had such a great lasting appeal and surprising co-op elements that actually make you feel an important part of the general effort. But to each their own though I suppose.

There's actually a few here:

Prototype (I wanted to like it, returned it after having it for a couple hours. The only game I've played this gen that I can say I completely HATE).

Crysis 2 (not at all what I expected, poor framerate, horrendous AI, not what I figured would be the follow-up to the epic thing that Crysis 1 was made out to be).

Far Cry 2 (respawning enemies, driving forever, etc. Really too bad, I feel like that game had an insane amount of potential).

Final Fantasy XIII (I feel bad because I couldn't even bring myself to finish it. I got about 23 hours in and still couldn't connect to anything, and the combat--for all of it's praise in reviews--simply did not work for me).

Killzone 3 (I liked it overall, but felt like they could have done a lot more with characterization. Some things were a definite improvement over KZ2, but there were a few steps back. That and the ending literally made me mad. It just...happened).

Still, even with these few disappointments (and some I can't think of), it just makes me think how fortunate we've been this gen with good games. None of these are BAD games (well, Prototype is awful in my opinion :P), they're just not as great as I hoped they would be.

I had fun with it for a few months... After awhile it got really bad, and I loved the other Socom games I played... So yeah, I agree.

For me it was Star Ocean 4. SO3 has been my favourite game for the last several years, and SO4 felt like a step backward in a number of ways.

Honourable mention goes to FFXIII. I didn't expect much from the game, but after completing it once I don't think I'll play though it again. Next to FFX-2 it's probably my least favourite in the series.

I feel FF13's combat system was the best so far, it gets pretty hectic with all the timed paradigm shift setups and swaps as you advance in the game. But the game was far too linear for me and the story was lacking when compared with the previous installments. I still finished it though, but I probably won't be playing it again anytime soon and its the first Final Fantasy I've never bothered to 100%.

For comparison purposes, I've replayed FF7 to FF10 many times. Even though 10 was linear as well, the story, the music (the final works on the series by the genius Nobuo Uematsu) and the content of the game provided players with many things to do other than just getting from point A to B with a cutscene and a bossfight at the end. Even when the world opened up FF13 during the later chapters, the missions were pretty much still all fighting, so it still felt 'linear' in a sense. If Square were to make another Final Fantasy, they should think of FF10 as the limit of how linear it should be without crossing the line.

I still think of FF10 as the last real Final Fantasy created by Square.

GTA IV for me. That game was just plain boring in every way possible, which was really surprising considering how fun San Andreas and Vice City were. Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands was also really disappointing since it took away things from the previous sands of time games and replaced them with a cheap attempt to copy GOW (in the combat that is). At least with these games we still have the great games in the series before them, and now the sands of time trilogy is available in HD.

I'm glad to see that there are a reasonable amount of people that share my dislike for GTA 4. I don't know what it is exactly, but compared to GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas, something just felt...wrong.

Whoever said Heavenly Sword... that person needs to be removed from these boards.

I don't agree with a lot of people here. FarCry 2 was a great game but a few bad design decisions. GTAIV is amazing. I'd say the most dissapointing game would have to go to... Resident Evil 5. After the masterpiece that was RE4, how could they **** it up so bad. Co-op and online, just another example of how it ***** up everything.

This isn't directly related to this thread, perhaps, but I love Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo and I am disappointed that I think there is an abundance of cheating going on. I was just playing today and my opponent filled up his super bar with one special move.:?
