Right off that bat, yes i am asking for some help/info..

i called sony but have no idea how to explain the problem, i think i ended up confusing myself..

My system decides to act up on a few games.. not all of them which is why this is weird..

Prince of Persia, Alone in the Dark, Resident Evil 5, Burnout Paradise and Command and Conquer Red Alert 3 are the games that act up.. all other games run fine..

The tv it is connected to does not influence nor does the resolution..

The pics i am going to show are in 480p..

all the games do some sort of variation of what is going on..

i can show the other games but resident evil 5 is what is in my system..

in prince of persia and alone in the dark the characters and environment would go invisible..

also the lines you see in one of the pictures would be coming out of the characters..

thoughts? advice of how to explain this to sony? or just comment, how unlucky i am..

it actually happened once to me on RE5 and i quit the game, rebooted my ps3 and after that i never experienced it. not sure wat caused it or wats causing urs, but sony would be the best place to find out. could be a glitch or ur ps3 driver acting up, or ur disk is drity/scracthed/smudged not sure man

yeah i called sony and was attempting to explain it for over an hour..

hard to express, lines taking the color of the environment shooting out of the characters and background..

i thought it was the disks but they are cleaned.. and why would killzone 2, resistance 2 and like 10 other games i have played not do it.. also my copy of burnout is from the psn store..

Well i can tell you this, if it were a PC i would def say eather you had a very strange driver issue oryour GPU was over heating. that is what is commonly called artafacting "spelling". And it could very well be that your ps3 is over heating, but in that cae it would do it with all of your games. U might want to try doing a reformate or what ever its called on ps3. you may have some curupted files on your HDD.

it takes over 3 hours.. it's only been about an hour.. but i will post if it fixed it or not when it finishes..

i have been searching for ps3 artifacting, and there seems to be a lot of reasons that cause it.. blu-ray overheating, faulty graphics card, corrupt data ect..

so i am hoping it's corrupted data which the reformat will fix instead of it being faulty hardware where i would then have to send it in, or just deal with it like i have been..

i know it really is.. i got the tribal going in the other 2 pictures lol..

i hope reformatting fixes the issue, but i doubt it will.. i deleted all the save/game data before and reinstalled and still had the problem, and it gets worse the longer it is running.. i think that points to hardware, but not affecting all my games just leaves me confused and disturbed..

Your sig is the most ironic thing in the world right now :|

but in response to the thread....? kiss it better? give it the water coolant or the extra fan that it so desperately wants? make her feel special?

aww sucks it don't work. gotta say tho its a strange phenomenon when the error is on some games but not others. esp such a large graphical glitch/bug that renders some games i would think near unplayable and others run just fine. strange indeed.

maybe if sony customer support was helpful..

the *** just told me to have a wonderful day and hung up on me..

so he says this is not a common problem.

and the handful it happened to just affects one game or to all games and is unheard of to do it to 6 games where the rest are perfectly fine..

THEY HAVE NO ******* CLUE what is going on..

damn. afetr shelling out hundreds of pounds for a console, the least you can expect from customer service is to stay on the phone for the duration of your call without hanging up on you!

just coz they have been given a problem that they have never experienced before they assume that the customer doesn't know what they are talking about and are somehow doing something wrong.

poor show Sony.

do you tried switching the video input??try the hdmi in 1080p and the composite in 480..its really wierd that only on few games happens but it seems like a hardware problem, if its not data corruction of the games.Do u have the latest update of the ps3 or if your tv has that posibility??

480p to 1080p it doesn't matter.. yes i have had the latest firmware.. and tried on 3 different televisions.. so my third call to sony, which the second guy told me rebuilding the database would take a few hours, which it took 40s.. the 3rd guy told me that re5 was made by sony, i nearly died.. guess i will be sending it in.. seriously i know customer service aren't experts on the ps3, but you would think they should know what they are talking about, and not just reading off some piece of paper..

i am really thinking to just keep this system and buy a new one.. then any games that artifact i will just play on the new system.. since the current one only affects certain games..

that is if the extended warranty that i might of bought from best buy is no longer valid..

It does look an awful lot like artifacts from GPU overheating. Curious, what games don't artifact?

Maybe a section of your HDD went bad and it just so happens the game data in that section housed those specific games you're having problems with. Or you have gremlins.

i have yet to read all the post sence my last one so this may have been stated. haveing a cool enviroment does not protect you 100% from over heat. it could be that the thermal past has gotten dryed out and cracked ect or that a heat sync was noty installed right thus it will overheat. does the fans get loud when your getting the artifacts ?

yes its starting to sound like a bad section of his HDD as some one above said. it happens some times. a defect in the HDD that gets worse overtime. if you know some one with another PS3 or a laptop pc that you can borrow the HDD from you can give that a try. if you have a friend with a ps3 that is running the same ps3 update version it should be a simple swap out of the HDD. then install one of your games that gives you the problem and see what happens. If you need to get a new HDD i HIGHLY recommend western digital. IMHO and from extensive exp they make the most reliable HDD's on earth lol.

ok if the fans dont get louder, like realy loud and the system does not freeze up then its *probably* not the cause. it sounds like its a HDD issue or even worse a problem with the ps3's other memory. but normaly with ram ect memory you get stabilty issues such as system freezes, reboots ect and not just artifacting. of course thats with PC,

it seems weird that if a spot on the hard drive is corrupt.. erasing all the data, the same games are affected.. if it was a graphics card it would affect all the games.. it really seems more of a software issue.. like bad updates, downloads or something..

of course these are what the sony people told me and not my thoughts on the matter.. since i asked these questions..

It dose seem like lagg, but with only a few games i would say get a new hard drive and see if that works. If not return the HD and ship out os sony and hopfully they can do somthing about it.

This is true but stranger things have happend. i feel for you man i realy do. it sux so bad to have such a pricey thing give you problems like this. its def not a conection problem like a HDMI hand shake because its only in some games. does it do it at all with blueray movies? My advice is if at all posable try a defferant HDD like i said before just to be sure. I'll keep thinking on the subject but it sounds like your only option is to RMA it to sony or buy a new one if swaping out the HDD does not solve the problem. have you tried the feature that completly wipes the ps3 and returns it to factory. This will erase every thing including system updates ect.

That is nothing like lagg. lagg is what you get online and it takes the form of other players warping around on screen and or stuttering.

Also i should point out that in the case of artafacting do to heat it may very well only happen with some games. not every game push's the hardwear as hard as others.

!! also something just poped into my head. i wounder if all the games that your having issues with have installs while all the ones you dont have issues with do not have installs!!

Also what if the games that are acting up are ones that stream data from the disk drive. again does blue ray movies play fine?

It dosen't have to be online to have lagg. EX. Fallout3 it has lagg but no online. But i have seen this on Cod4 once, but nothin major. There are someother games that i know of but can't think of.
