**OFFICIAL Theme Sharing Thread w/Tutorial**

How to make your own theme(s):

1. Download this file from playstation.com

2. Extract the .zip file using winzip, winrar or some other program.

3. Use Photoshop [trial], Gimp [freeware], or even Microsoft Paint to edit the .PNG files to whatever you want them to be. *Files edited in paint will be square, because it can't make sections transparent like PS and Gimp can. That brings up another point; when creating your icons, make sure they're cutout cleanly or else it will look ugly on your PS3.

4. If you are unsure of what icon means what, you can use your XMB on your PS3 or you can look at the readme file provided (p3tcompiler_v101>readme_e)

5. You may want to edit the XML file (p3tcompiler_v101sample>1sample.xls) using notepad. To do this, right-click on the file and go Open With > notepad. Make sure you edit the string name="yourinstalledthemehere" under "sample>01. Confirm this now.

12. Plug in a USB flash drive

13. Create a folder titled "PS3" Make sure that it is entered in ALL CAPS.

14. Within that folder, create a folder titled "THEME" Again, make sure that it is entered in ALL CAPS.

15. Copy and paste the .p3t file from step 11 into the "THEME" folder.

16. Unplug your USB flash drive (you may want to safely remove hardware by right-clicking the icon in the notification area located in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen).

17. Plug your USB flash drive into your PS3.

18. Turn on your PS3 if it's not already on and go to Settings > Theme Settings > Theme > Install >[your USB flash drive] > [your theme title]

19. It will install

20. Come here and post your theme!

yeah... i probably won't have one for a while. one, because the program isn't working, but also because I'm having graphic designer's block.

but to get started, you basically just use an image editing software (Photoshop, Gimp, Paint even) to open and edit the .PNG files. Once someone figures out how to get that into a P3T file (the theme file), you'll have a head start.

I dragged the sample.xml onto the pt3compiler.exe and it loaded the command prompt and all the .jpegs and .pngs got copied as .gims and a .p3t file was created

i then copied the .p3t file and all the .gims onto an SD card into the folder it told me to put in, pushed it into the slot on the front of my ps3, went into themes (install) and...

...Nothing...

yeah, you're right about the drag and drop... if it says any of you are missing the dll, i dl'd mine from www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvcp71

Oh, and it should export the .p3t file in the same directory as the .xml file was.

I just took the one with the rainbow in the background. So... psychedelic. :P

Well mine actually worked in the end when I edited the folder name from "THEMES" to "THEME", so it was my own fault it didn't work in the first place.

I just have one question, do you make the .xml file in notepad and just save it as .xml or do you have a special program or sumthin? (yeah i know noobish question but i had to ask)

I really hope we get some good themes out of this. A good tip for everyone, please use dark backgrounds. Staring at a white background kills my eyes and my tv.osirisomeomi

After you change the theme, you can go back and change the background to whatever you like and still keep the icons.

Okay... I'm a real noob but i somehow manage to upload the sample theme into my ps3. However, i don't know how to edit/customize. To be honest, i don't understand alot of what you guys are saying. So, can anybody show me how? Sorry for any hassle but it would be greatly appreciated!

Np, its not my website though, in case you're wondering. The problem with that site is that most of the themes are .rar and I don't know how to get those files on to my PS3 :P.
