the native resolution on mines is 720p but the max resolution is 1080i but i use 720p because i heard that its better to play games on 720p than 1080isly718
I'm in the same boat. It'll go up to 1080i, but I play my games at 720p. I've heard people say that 720p is better for games, but that 1080i is better for movies. Personally, I'm too lazy to bother, so I just leave it at 720p and call it a day.:)

same here i never change it to 1080i
ok im speaking out o ignorance here but why is 720p better than 1080i???Gamefisher86
The p is better than the i for gaming. Has to do with on screen action and how the lines refresh. P is progressive which refreshes consecutive lines, giving a smoother look to high action sequences. I is for interlaced and refreshes every other line, tends to look stuttered when there's lots going on.

Only if you're noticing display anomolies. If not, keep it where you like it.
thanks for the info...:)
i have a 1080i but i use 720p:D if anyone wants to add me for some gaming it's RCBOYS :Dn00bkid
So here is what happens. You put in a 1080i game in the PS3 - it converts it down to 720p which is then sent to your tv. Your tv is 1080i so it then upconverts the 720p to 1080i. So instead of sending an unaltered signal (for 1080i games) you have modified it twice - smart move.....(not).
People keep forgetting that you can argue that 720p is better for gaming than 1080i, but if your display is a 1080i you can't change it. It accepts 720p, but converts it so in fact you are playing in 1080i...
1080p is obviously the best thing, but a lot of people don't have that....
It's a 1080p. But it's an old one. No 120Hz, no HDMI 1.3, no high contrast :( :Dmunu9
How old? A fact known to those interested in hdtv's is that the first generation of 1080p tv's can in fact NOT accept 1080p through the HDMI port...(except for the Westinghouse which sucks at everythign else). So what happens is that the hdmi port downgrades the 1080p to 1080i and then the tv upconverts it to 1080p - good but not true 1080p. What is funny is that those tv's can accept 1080p through the tv tuner that is built in - only problem is of course that nobody broadcasts 1080p.
First generation 1080p is only like 3 years ago if my memory serves me right
he future soon 1080p will be the 720p imagine the the person who uses 480p http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2160p

LONG time before that becomes standard (IF and that is a big if). Also check this comment about the one quad-tv that was produced by Westinghouse.
"And even at this very specialized application, the difference to the best 1080p we saw at CES appeared to be marginal, at least to our eyes"

All these guys claiming 720p is so much better than 1080i must be smoking crack. They probably also own cheap tvs that max out at 720p. If your tv is native to 1080i leave it at 1080i. It looks best. I've switched my display option on the PS3 from 720p to 1080i and back many times playing many games. COD4, Uncharted, R&C, Sega Rally, Dirt, etc. There is no real differance in the picture. In1080i the picture is slighty sharper because the resolution is higher. 720p is lower resolution, not better.
