You should. Blu-Ray movies may matter to you, but the technology does. The reason PS3 has it is because sony is trying to future proof it and if other studios start to follow paramount then... dum, dum, dummmm. farewell blu-ray, we hardly knew ya.

Not to bothered really.

First off i bought a ps3 for gaming, but i enjoy the blu-ray player and it saved me allot of money as i would have bought one.

But i have both for the same reason i have both 360 and ps3 as to enjoy all the best games you need both, i have a ps3 and hd-dvd add-on for 360 as to enjoy all the great hd movies you need both untill one format fails and is discontinued.

But really it makes little sense to drop blu-ray as it is/was out selling hd-dvd(i dont keep up with who's winning).

How long do you think it will take for someone to post "microsoft paid them to drop blu-ray" theres always a crazy consipicary in gaming these days in some peoples minds not mine.

microsoft did pay them off, paramount has been selling more bd discs than hd and they switch to hd? it is fishy and makes absolutely no sense. Disney is still > dreamworks but this really is bad news.

Good news. The Blu-Ray camp and its supporters were beginning to get a little uppity. Maybe this will knock their heads out of the clouds. :)

This might not effect Transformers since Steven Spielberg helped on that project.

well here's how i see it.... Blu-ray is so far ahead now, i honestly can't see HD-DVD winning.... i think on n4g... yea it is on n4G... but a 150 million dollar deal was signed with Paramount for HD-DVD support until the end of next year. I wonder who was behind that contract signing, hhhhmmm

WOW - this battle of the next gen DVD format just turned into an all out WAR!!!

Here is what I'm wondering now...

Since BlockBuster Video a month or so ago announced that they were only going to rent and sell BluRay discs and would not support HD-DVD...

Does that mean that BlockBuster Video will no longer carry Paramount or DreamWorks pictures in the next gen?

LOL - this is crazy. In the PC market althought they're expensive there are DVD-ROM drives that will read both BluRAY and HD-DVD formats...

They need to focus on getting those combo drives into consoles and getting them to mass market stand alone players - as now that companies are picking sides so adamently this is turning into a real mess.

Hopefully this will blow up in Paramounts face, now I know alot of people purchased their PS3's for gaming which I did as well however the Bluray player is an added bonus and we should support it as much as possible. I personally will not purchase any paramount properties until this deal is dead. It will suck not seeing Transformers but I guess I'll have to catch it on cable when if finally comes out. The ones hurt by this move which Paramount obviously do not care about are the consumers...

It doesn't make any sense why they would drop support now for $150 mill, when blu-ray is clearly winning. I don't understand why they wouldn't sell both when they could easily make a profit on both.

who cares chances are this will back fire in paramounts face. people that spent $1000 on a blu-ray player arent gona go out and spent another 1000 on a hd-dvd player just so they can watch a certain companies movies. plus we still have the support of many more major movie companies.

Paramount wasn't one of the original BD supporters anyways (looking at the site)

so I wouldn't expect any less. I think they are looking at HDDVD prices and players for theholiday season and believe HDDVD will pull up on top. The PS3 is a perfectly good BD player, so even it doesn't beat hddvd it won't go away.

We keep getting good news supporting BD and now we got the hddvd end of the stick this time, oh well.

Actually you all...

While I want BluRay to remain available as I own a player (via PS3) according to market analysts and market watch sites - HD-DVD is actually outselling BluRay 2 to 1. The deal is that BluRay is the better technology - but HD-DVD stand alone players are MUCH less expensive making them an easier sell to the less tech saavy consumer. Same thing happened with VHS and BETA - and BETA was the superior technology.

In fact I read an article on AVSForum (one of the industries leading sources for sciense and technology information) that Walmart signed a contract a couple weeks ago for over a million units of an HD-DVD player that they were getting for $30 each. They are planning on retailing these for just shy of $100. That will really hurt BluRay unless a very inexpensive solution hits the market VERY soon.

Yet on the otherside you have the BlockBuster contract - though I now suspect they will break their BluRay exclusivity. I mean BlockBuster isn't going to not rent Paramount or Dreamworks movies - even if they have to reneg on their previous announcement and start carrying HD-DVD, they can't afford to not carry those studios movies.

ALL in ALL - like I said this is a complete mess and the only thing that's for sure is the consumer is going to get screwed one way or another. Hopefully they agree on a format standard or multi-read player soon.

I especially like that it shows the Blu-Ray version as 5 stars while the HD-DVD version as 4 stars. So basically Paramount is only gunnasell their crappier movies. LMAO

whoa whoa buddy if you wanna be exacting

HDDVD PLAYERS are OUTSELLING BD PLAYERS 2:1 however if you put in PS3's as a BD player BD outsells HDDVD 2:1.

whoa whoa buddy if you wanna be exacting

HDDVD PLAYERS are OUTSELLING BD PLAYERS 2:1 however if you put in PS3's as a BD player BD outsells HDDVD 2:1.

software, blu-ray is outselling hd-dvd 2:1 and they still have support of most of the major studios exclusively, this is just paramounts way of making a chunk of money quickly for a year or 2 cause they know the format war wont end by then and when this deal is up they can go back to supporting both formats.

whatever i got a ps3 for games, the soonersony realizes that nobody buys the ps3 for anything other than gaming the better XDddskater828

I bought my PS3 because it's a BluRay player that plays my PS2 games, since my PS2 is on its last legs. The upscaling in the 360 also sucks. So yeah, people DO buy the PS3 for anything other than gaming. The only PS3 game I own is Ninja Gaiden Sigma, which I coincidentally already had on Xbox in a sense.

The news is a bummer. Nonetheless, BluRay still has the bulk of the industry behind it, the prices drop a bit more every day, and the quality is more or less the same as HDDVD. I think BluRay will come out on top.
