Not to bothered really.
First off i bought a ps3 for gaming, but i enjoy the blu-ray player and it saved me allot of money as i would have bought one.
But i have both for the same reason i have both 360 and ps3 as to enjoy all the best games you need both, i have a ps3 and hd-dvd add-on for 360 as to enjoy all the great hd movies you need both untill one format fails and is discontinued.
But really it makes little sense to drop blu-ray as it is/was out selling hd-dvd(i dont keep up with who's winning).
How long do you think it will take for someone to post "microsoft paid them to drop blu-ray" theres always a crazy consipicary in gaming these days in some peoples minds not mine.

actually if u even read the article witch u obviously didnt the HD DVD group paid them 150 million dollars

hence the word, group.... do you honestly think the "group" had 150 million to just throw at paramount, without M$ who is in the group, throwing out a large chunk of it?
[QUOTE="fistoflight"]So what if we lost paramount? WE gained fox entertainment!!!
http://www.socaltech.com/mobilestory.php?storyid=0002216
Why haven't gamespot listed this one up yet huh? Fox makes a lot of movies and some great some bad ones but yeah this is good news.
Maverick128
Because it's from 2005. We all already knew Fox is Blu-Ray Exclusive. So is Disney/Buena Vista/Pixar etc. So is Sony Pictures (Duh)/MGM/Columbia/TriStar.
Yeah but look in my other link I posted its renewing its support for the blueray and is gonna announce exclusive blue ray titles for this year.
150 million is not so much if you remember that they now have half the number of possible buyers they had before.actually if u even read the article witch u obviously didnt the HD DVD group paid them 150 million dollars

The exact details aren't out yet, but as you said $150 million for their entire catalog of movies is nothing. Rumor is this is just a "timed" exclusive thru 2008. Which would make sense for that amount of money.

When will people realise microsoft DID NOT pay paramount 150 million.
The hd-dvd group(toshiba, warner bros etc) made the exclusivity deal with paramount and they will have paid them.
Microsoft are just supporter's of hd-dvd like intel it makes no sense what so ever for them to pay paramoount.
Microsoft could easily make a blu-ray player add-on for 360 and probably will one day.
In the gaming world it's microsoft vs sony but in the hd format war it's sony vs toshiba just like it has been for years.
shadystxxx
maybe you need to check again
MICROSOFT IS APART OF THAT GROUP
(just like Sony is a part of the BD group)
Does anyone realise that Viacom owns Paramount, Dreamworks, MTV and Blockbuster. Viacom is one of the biggest most powerful entertainment companies in the world if not the largest. $150 million is absolute pocket change to Summner Redstone(who is CEO of Viacom). He is a multi-multi-multi-billionaire.
I thought Viacom picked a side(blockbuster) when the line was drawn in the sand. Looks like they p@%$ied out and decide to straddle the market.
PS I'm very surprised this was not mentioned by gamespot in the article.

Definitely seems more reasonable... $150m equals the budget for a single summer blockbuster, or the money they'd make on one or two pretty successful films... I'm no expert on movie studios and the money they make, but that seems like chump change in the long run... This has to be a timed thing, like for a year or something... ESPECIALLY considering Paramount's recent releases and comments that seemed to favor the Bluray format. (comments made before today's announcement, of course...)
I will not support Parmount in any form until they support blu-ray again.dewey79
If you pay to see a Paramount movie in the theater you're giving your money to Viacom. If you rent a blu-ray movie at blockbuster you're also giving your money to Viacom. So don't rent at blockbuster.
Honestly, I am extremely upset about this. I just sold my hd-dvd player cuz all the movies i want were on blu-ray and now I lost transformers and blades of glory =(.Dr_DudeMan
im upset as well. i wanted transformers and blades of glory for blu-ray too but now will get the dvd version instead. this is outrageous why dig your own grave paramount? they wouldve sold millions easily for transformers.
and to back up your opinion, I have never seen a HDDVD title being sold in Portugal. EVER!![QUOTE="rogerjak"][QUOTE="darren05r"]what a load of crap. i can walk into any high street store and find at least one bay (ground to ceiling) with blu-ray movies. in my local HMV there is only 8 spaces for HD-DVD products, not even 1/50th of a bay. how can paramount justify this???? HD-DVD just doesnt sellMaverick128
Haven't seen any here in Greece either.
I've already emailed Paramount Home Entertainment(just select viewer services and then paramount home ent as the category if you want to do the same.) to express my dissatisfaction. And you'd think they'd need all the Star Trek fans they could get with the crap they've been spewing out. Transformers is my only concern. Guess I may have to try my hand at the world of illegal d^(oading until they come to their senses.
Also, to one of the earlier posters: Shrek 3 one of the biggest movies of the year? Really? Shrek 3? Really?!? We must be having a crappy year for the film industry.
Hey thanks for the link. I just e-mailed Paramount and let them know how happy I am with thier announcement! I'm so happy I'll be able to watch Transformers on HD DVD this x-mas :)
You all should go out and buy inexpensive HD DVD player, so you can enjoy these great exclusives too. Also you should all start backing the HD DVD format, because in the end this will be the format of choice and will win. It does not take a rocket scientist to look into the future and be able to see the time-line of what will happen. The HD DVD players will hit $199 and thier will be a mass purchasing of HD DVD player. Then another drop to $149 with another mass purchase frenzy. Then another drop to $99. Now all the masses will be able to afford to get involved in HD DVD. By this point the mass market will be saturated with HD DVD players, Blu-Ray will loose all its exclusives other than Sony, and HD DVD will then announce victory.
Oh no, now they're employing Microsoft tactics: don't let the consumer decide, just pay everybody off. The best thing Sony can do to ensure Blu-Ray's success is to keep moving PS3s, which they can do by releasing more AAA titles;) That way there will always be more Blu-ray players.espoac

QFT... although i'm sure fanboys will disagree.
Ohh man Microsoft deep pockets are really getting anoying now. Sony can't earn anything when good ol bill is there flashing his cash. I really do not want to buy a £100 Add on which doesn't look that slick plus creates more wiring. spikeydude97323
I can remember DC owners saying the same thing about Sony in there day. funny how there always seems to be a bigger fish swimming down the stream.
You know what terrifies me about this news...
The first thought that entered my mind was "maybe I should get a 360 now"

and MGM picks blu-ray up
i have a question....if blue ray dissapears...that also means ps3 games will be gone?? cuz after all ps3 games are recorded on a blue ray disk...... so if we say good bye to blue ray movies, we should aslo say good bye to ps3 games....that stinks!!!gioiscool2
No, Blu-Ray will not disappear. PS3 games on Blu-Ray will continue to come out. They still make PSP games even though they don't make UMD movies anymore afterall. Blu-Ray will still be a proprietary format for Sony and they will continue to use it, no matter what happens in the format war.

That's rediculous...it's their loss though.

Perhaps Microsoft didn't pay for all it themselves, they would have payed a bit. The HD- DVD group is pretty much made up of them and Toshiba plus a few others. Universal was the only exclusive license, so they obviously realised that they needed to throw something at the competition before it completely obliterated them. No matter, still DVD. The majority of HD movies are still coming out on Blu- Ray and the rest can be watched on DVD. Expect a lot more money to be thrown around in the next 6 months.

MS is just a supporting member of the HD DVD promotion group, just like Paramount is now. they are not part of the managing members, nor do they hold a primary position in the organization.
"Universal May Go With Blu-ray"
On the "podcast it was stated right at 7 minutes 15 seconds that Universal studios is reconsidering their stance on HD DVD and are considering going Blu-ray. "
