Okay, for nearly a year now i've tried to get online to play call of duty 4, i bought a ps3 first month it came out and i was rapped about online.

My situation is that i'm using a Wired Modem (surfboard modem) and whenever i try to connect it using ethernet cable to ps3 it always says IP Address timed out and thats pretty much where i'm at.

I've tried turning it off for 10+ minutes and turning it back on and nothing, the only thing that got me an IP Address was when i turned the modem off and tried while it was starting up, it got an IP but instantly it said no connection.

I have a router but i've lost the disc and i think i made an error on something so i have to ignore that.

Please, detailed help would make me sooooooo happy, you guys have no idea.

If anyone has messenger or something i'd love to take step by step instruction, that would be bloody great! :D

Thanks for reading and i hope so badly i get a reply that helps, Joel.

you can also look up your router manual online, you do not need a disc to use a router.

Funny you mension the router manual, i've been reading it for last hour, didn't help a bit -_-

Its still like impossible for me to get into my router options, i go "Cmd", ipconfig and the answer i want don't come up,

It is perfectly connected into the modem so idk, i've tried over 10 router ip addresses in the URL for settings but nothing :(

Did you try entering 192.168.1.1 into the internet browser?

Usually that's how you get into your router settings. With the default settings, the username is usually blank and the password is admin.

I said in first post i'd tried all router ip addresses, sorry if you didn't understand.

Yes i've tried http://192.168.1.1/ along with many many many others.

It just say internet explorer cannot display the webpage, perhaps router error?

Does the router work for your PC... just not your PS3? Also do you have the PS3 settings set to automatically detect all ISP/IP/DNS settings?

Its over a year old (was bought for use of online ps3)

I use automatic settings, i've put them all in customly before (that took agesss), but nothing.

All the plugs to the router are in (unless guide is fake? lol)

I've already pushed the button, a big problem for myself is that i don't know where the router box is = no disc

I tried to download it but somehow all i got was spyware etc.

Wait so how are setting this up...? Try taking the port on the modem that you have your PC connected to, attaching an ethernet cable to that port, then attaching the cable to your input port on the router... then attach both your PC and the PS3 to the router...

What I mean by this is how do you currently have it set up? If you haven't attached your PC to the router, are you just leaving it plugged into the modem while you try this or are you just removing it from the modem and router setup all together...?

I use auto, custom takes too long, i tried that once and nothing good came from it for the time i spent on it.

I just found the booklet for the router.

You sure i need an ethernet cable in both? Because theres only 1 ethernet cable spot for computer or mode, the "WAN" input bit.

There are 4 others but they are the other external ones for shared internet (4 labelled 1 - 4)

I made a diagram... I found pics of your router and modem that you posted above... this is a pretty standard setup that is used for most console/PC network setups... the Red Lines represent ethernet cables...

your router should be directly connected to your computer. It should go Wall > Modem > Router > Computer - therefore 2 ethernet cables Try that..

HOLY HELL!! nice work on the diagram, thanks a bunch for the effort into that, i noticed you didn't use the WAN slot on the router, that one has to be put in, i think by the router.

The router only came with 1 ethernet cable, so what your saying is i just gotta put the router cable into the computer then try? (cause the rest is already done, except ethernet cable from modem goes into the router WAN slot.

well your modem should have come with an ethernet cable as well i think. so if you dont have 2 cables then you need to go out and pick one up, just get the shortest one you can find, shouldn't be more than $10-15

You don't have an Input/Uplink/Internet slot? That type of slot is designed to intake the internet signals... While the rest output it... I guess that could be what your Wide Area Network(WAN) slot is... but I have never seen the uplink slot with a WAN label... So I have no idea if it is or not...

Oh okay, for the picture of the router, i think if you look closely at the ethernet input on the very right you may be able to see WAN.

I've got a spare ethernet cable from the ps3, i had to buy a 15m cut6.

So all i need now is pretty much a spare ethernet castle spot.

you have a wireless card in your PS3, it is just a card that reads wireless internet signals so you can connect without a wire (as long as you have a router set up poperly) so if you install one in your computer then you can connect both your PS3 and PC to it without an ethernet cable. but for right now if your router is plugged into the modem (main port on your router) with an ethernet cable, you SHOULD be able to connect the PS3 wirelessly. just go into the settings and choose wireless connection and do everything automatic

But the router is wired so i don't think wireless is accessible?

I'm pretty sure a wired option is only available considering the router is not wireless, it's possible im wrong.

Booklet says nothing about wireless availabilities.

sorry about that, you are right its not a wireless router. not really sure what the problem here is, unless it has to do with the connection to your computer. just want to make sure, so you have the modem plugged into the wall and the router, and the ps3 plugged into the router, correct?
