If the ps3 got hacked, it would be on all the big news sites. Not to mention on the scene sites and modchip stores

i heard the ps3 could be pirated after a small time of it being shipped but it's said that the one who sells pirated games will most likely lose a lot of money considering the high price of the blu ray writer, dunno that's what i heard

I like piracy. Enables people who can't afford to play games a chance to play them. You can't be telling me that the size of your wallet should dictate what games you play or if you play at all.

Video games didn't really boom in my country until piracy came to play with the PlayStation. Not to mention we pay for our games almost twice as much as Americans, and for our consoles too. And then take in scope our poor salaries... Today there are many people buying original games, but piracy is what made the internatialization of video games to many countries possible. If you pirate, it doesn't mean you aren't getting originals too. So don't **** on people who pirate, they aren't stealing. Those who make bad games and then take people's money for them are the ones stealing.

Anything that has to do with piracy is the link.:D

Jayvan_JJ
That link was funny...thanks

Haha that link was hilarious. Back on topic. In Asia they're selling a Blu-Ray burner but it has a 3.0 USB port rendering it useless until the right PC comes out. (Google it) But yeah I would report them. I buy all of my games legit because I couldn't see myself playing pirated games.

Yesterday i went to buy a new copy of Fallout 3, and some salesman told me that in 2 months he will be selling a chip at $300 that will turn the ps3 to run copied bluray games, but no online play.

I am peruvian and i am sick of piracy. I have already spend more than $800 in games and i am proud of it, i would never turn muy PS3 into something illegal.

Thoughts and comments please.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here in Peru, piracy is very common, let me explain , right now the wii and the 360 are hacked and play pirate copies, thats not all, 4 moth ago they hacked the psp-2000 and now the psp-3000 allowing the user to download the games to the memory card instead of buying them. It is a very profitable busines and i know they are not amateurs. These people here create their own hardware, they dont buy a common chip from a chinese factory and modify it (i saw it on tv), I am completely aware of the situation but nothing can be done because sony here has no official ps3 subsidiary so there is no one to go and tell they are selling pirate copies, so no legal measures are taken.

PS3 is being hacked right now in peru and i completely believe it. The same happened to me when i sold my 360, i was about to sell it and a salesman told me that in one moth it will be hacked and he will be seling the chips, anyway i sold it to buy my ps3. And now the same happens, one salesman tells me that in 2 month he will be seling a PS3 chip.

This hole situation is just disappointing, but i`ll continue to buy my originals.

please forgive my english, im not a native speaker.

its a false chip, the guy is lying, is a scam, PS3 piracy is not even close

sorry to tell you this...but pirates DO steal...doesnt matter if someone place the game prices sky highs...its still a price and if you want it you must pay for it...taking the game "for free" or a pirate copy which is much cheaper is the same as stealing

Piracy is wrong no matter what. Just because you can't afford something doesn't make it right for you to steal something. So please don't try to justify yourselves because you were to poor to buy the games.

corwinn01

I dunno why people try to publically justify their piracy habits. It's like they're saying "I'm a criminal arrest me I dare you". It's wrong no matter what situation you're in (as mentioned by corwinn), so just be discreet about it unless you're looking for trouble.

i found this interesting. i went on the wiki for the movie "the man from earth" and found this "In what may be an unprecedented move, the producer of this film, Eric D. Wilkinson IMDb, has publicly thanked users of BitTorrent who have distributed the movie without express permission, saying that it has lifted the profile of this product far beyond the financier's expectations.[15] Producers Schenkman (sellingrs), Bixby (Emerson_Bixby) and Wilkinson (EWilkinson100) have all written comments on IMDb forums and responded to questions from fans."

ignorant, ps3 are sold all over the globe by OFFICIAL and LEGAL stores, this includes peru, why do you say that they are not availible on peru?

another ignorant...peru is not a poor country....do you know that the games in mexico are around 100$ new? and is mexico a poor country? no....why do you say its poor? because its in latinamerica right? guess what, not every country in latinamerica is poor, the thing is that in most of these places, the prices are not stablished by the games publishers and distributers, but by the government, and also the crazy taxes of the country

The OP is right. Ive seen it myself. PS3s are hackable. The quality of the game is not as good as a normal game. I dont know if it was the quality of the TV i saw it on or what but the lighting seems lighter. Im considering taking pictures except Im not gonna go out and buy a digital camera just to prove to 20 forum posters that they are indeed wrong on this topic. I am currently in South America and all the stores here (besides 1) carries only copies. Its a bootleggers paradise here and if you go to the right people they will get you anything. PS3 included.

Oddly enough when I heard the OS to be used on PS3 would be Linux I thought it would of been hacked a long time ago. Nothing is shielded from piracy for long. U can come up with the latest and greatest anti pirate software / hardware there is always someone smarter who can crack your protection. May take some time but it can be done.

Poor wage my butt, if you have a ps3 you obviously can afford games... Even the creator of the thread is proof. Just cause games cost different in other countries does not give you the right to just steal them, there is lots of things i want from japan i cant have cause they are way to expensive for me and would end up costing me 5 times more than if i lived there, so i don't just take them anyways cuz i think i deserve it. I just live without them or if i really really want them ill blow the money.

Actually you know what really pisses me off is the fact that people who buy pirated games are jsut giving money to low life losers that make their living off the blood and sweat of others. If you are not a decent person, you dont deserve a dime.

I see nothing wrong with pirating....if they aren't complaining I'm glad, cause I don't have to listen to them complain about prices.

And for the people who say don't pirate games, but have watched pirated movies or listened to pirated music, need to stfu hypocrites are never welcome anywhere, also music on youtube that isn't licensed counts as piracy.

If you are not a decent person, you don't deserve a dime.

Please define "decent"? there is no such thing as a good side, bad side, or neutral, because from all 3 parties all 3 have different views.

Decent=You go to work, get paid, your work helps the rest of the world grow(not selling pirated movies off you couch from your illegal website), you buy a game with the money you made helping the economy. There arent too many non decent jobs like weapon smugglers, pirates and animalpoachers so its easy to make a decent living without screwing someone else over. Pirates are just lazy bums who tempt people with cheap prices at the expense of the rest of the world.

I'm pretty sure the people who pirate have to work to sell there pirated games, did you take into account that these pirates probably have jobs on top of that?

In some 3rd world countries they don't have access to original copies so they are forced to pirate, did you even take that into mind?

And by my opinion being a drug dealer or weapons smuggler is a lot more work then a 9/5 desk job, at least in that there is a actual risk.

Also take into account that some people come from a very poor family and couldn't even afford a proper education so they have almost no choice but to partake into something illegal, don't just go slapping labels around if you don't take in the possibilities.

And as far as I'm concerned this world doesn't need to grow anymore, in truth we need another holocaust thats at least 15x that of the first one, the more we grow the more we kill ourselves.

good thread;

different socioeconomic reasons as to why what is considered ill to do in one country and is considered healthy in another...

if "your" people want a good that is not native to them are they not becoming addicted to it if the people who produce the good finds it illegal for you to have that good under the conditions discussed. are you not damaging your own self by being addicted to these goods, are you not hurting the producers of these goods indirectly by means of moral degradation?

i reserve my own opinion about piracy; because as an american i prefer linux as a computer operating system and im sure some euro's may find that illegal in itself.

Honestly, if I found a pirated version of a game, I would question both the integrity of the chip and the game. One of the best things about Sony is that if you buy it, you know its quality. I dunno if what Bob makes in his mothers basement has the same reputation, but there is a reason I got an expensive ps3 over some less expensive gaming systems. ...That being said, if I knew the chip worked and the games were legit... I'd do it. :)

Poor wage my butt, if you have a ps3 you obviously can afford games...

optiplex7

That is not always the case. Money isn't the only thing that gets you a PS3. Aside from anything illegal, it could have been a gift or the odd case, found or won.

Such was my situation back in the PS1 days. I also, don't like this "holier than thou" attitude with some of these posters when they are "stealing" music, movies and god knows what else on the net. It's only "stealing" because a bureaucrat CEO with a lot of government friends, say so. Yet, they can steal from us any time they want? I don't know about you, but I find hypocrisy on both sides.

When it concerns those who don't have the money that people "expect you to have", I sympathies with piracy. I've been there and I know any of you hypocrites would resort to the same thing if you weren't financially enabled.

I'm glad I can buy my own games and consoles and I am glad the PS3 can't be hacked right now (for other reasons). But I'm not going to "talk down" to someone with some false sense of righteousness because I paid retail price for my games.

So if you're going to be like that. Why don't you turn off your file sharing, bit torrents and any other thing that could be considered a violation of copyright material.
