And the point of this thread is......
You have to factor in Europe in march.
Sony is firing on 2 of 3 major cylinders.

The thread maker knows this...he's just trying to put a damper on the momentum swing!!! The ps3 has a way to go, but things are starting to pick-up now.
Are these worldwide sales? Or just NA?G-LegendJust NA. NPD numbers. I can try to find the Japanese sales. They report weekly. EDIT: Yeah, not much better: Japanese sales February 2007 NDS - 586,000 Wii - 279,000 PSP - 233,000 PS3 - 107,000 PS2 - 63,000 360 - 18,000 GBA - 7,300 GCN - 1,400

Buddy, no matter how you try to spin it, this is the truth: In NORTH AMERICA, the PlayStation 3 failed to outsell ANY system EXCEPT for the GameCube and Xbox, both of which have been essentially discontinued. This is BAD NEWS for the PS3 no matter how much damage control or spin or whatever else you call it you want to come up with. Too early to say it's dead (after all, the DS dropped below 100k during the spring following its launch, too, and the 360 dropped to only 160k last year), but it's still bad news.I must say....pretty dumb post... and it's "Blu-ray"Seriously, who's dumb enough to buy the ps3 for gaming???
All you can do is watch blueray movies.

What I think people fail to mention is that the PS3 has launched in only 2 nations. Although they are pretty large it still has Europe and Australia to launch in. There may be other continents I am forgetting too.Correyov31Traditionally, the PlayStation sells about 1/3 of its numbers in North America, 1/3 in Japan, and 1/3 in all other territories.

Where did you get that from? Just curious. Even though it is still missing 1/3, 33%.

VGCharts.org has it more with this distribution: U.S. 40%, Japan 20%, all other territories 40%. http://www.vgcharts.org/worldcons.php But the PS3's been performing about equally in Japan and the U.S. I mean, Japan's February numbers are only 20,000 off from the American numbers.

We'll see with March. But IMO, the real race begins Christmas 2007. By then, every console will have a decent library of games to drive sales, and who knows? Maybe the HDTV audience that Sony was so desperately hoping to capture will finally be big enough to make a difference, too.[QUOTE="MERC_RECONN"][QUOTE="magus-21"][QUOTE="MERC_RECONN"][QUOTE="UntoldDreams"]You have to factor in Europe in march.

This isnt false, and you know gamespot is slow with the news. The poster from the Neogaf forums has access to these numbers himself, and he makes a post like this every month.Gamespot posted on the Canadian number just hours ago and as of that time the NA numbers still have not been published for February. Furthermore, no other gaming news site on the web has access to these numbers yet, but some forum poster does???? And this sounds believable to you why??? Plain and simple, NPD has not released any publications for NA for the month of Feb.... you can google and see for yourself. Sales may or may not be low... the point is that the post is not true and we have to wait for the REAL numbers to come out to know for sure.
But besides all of that, that is pretty bad for Sony. Hopefully March will be much much different, but it just doesnt seem it will be. Besides Oblivion (which Xbox already has) what other game do you guys think will sell systems in March? This is a deep hole Sony has to dig themselves out of.

I think that the PS3's sales number are quite amazing, considering the price point, the current quality of the software and the fact that the best games and services are months away.
Holiday Season '07 will see a huge increase of sales for the PS3. When there's a reason to buy one.

Sony did have a small "comeback" at GDC, so I can see PS3 sales rising momentarily up to 150k to 170k. But dang, they need games NOW. The Wii can survive on WiiSports, Twilight Princess, and WarioWare, and the 360 just has a golden year ahead of it, but the PS3 needs something really big soon.

Why would it go up in March? Because of Oblivion or Amored Core? yea those are big system sellers even though one is a year old game and a new expansion is already coming to Xbox Live.

And gamesindustrybiz.com doesn't show this much lag in those numbers. I doubt that GS would have released the Canadian numbers and just disregarded the NA numbers if they were available. Furthermore, you can google them... I do it every month. Once the numbers become available, you will always find a few sources that publish them. I expect that the PS3 is in third place, but I do doubt that the numbers are that low. Either way, Sony is hardly 'losing' from a revenue standpoint (I'm guessing that's why everyone looks at these numbers) b/c their last gen console is still the top selling console in pretty much every region. It's going to keep them in the game until they can drop the price of the PS3.

I can bet you the numbers will be lower or around the same. i don't see anyoen running out to spend $600 because of a racing game.DeihmosKeep in mind that February is shorter than March, and don't quote me on this, but I think NPD only counts full weeks (spilling over into the next month as necessary).
It's becoming quite clear that the PS3 is not going to be the runaway hit the PS2 was. Face it guys, no company has ever won the console wars 3 times in a row, if Nintendo couldn't do it, Sony couldn't either. This time it's going to be Xbox 360's time to shine. If Sony hopes of taking back the number one position next time they had better start designing the next system NOW and release it at the saem time as Xbox 360 2 or whatever they call it. MS's competition is too strong for Sony to be coming 1 year late into the game.CaptainCrazy
