PS3 doesn't have or need a Halo (an overrated good game viewed religiously). I honestly think we have a better system for shooters as we will get all the following: UT3 (best console version that we get first), HL2: Orange box (great value regardless of platform), Haze (good developers, developed for ps3, interesting ideas with nectar), Warhawk (no 360 game like it), R:Fom and Resistance 2 (fun and going to be even better), Killzone 2 (best looking console game to date), CoD4 (looks the same on each plus we have lag free larger games with psn), and Socom:Confrontation and 4 (online goodness). The only thing that I think we as ps3 owners and shooter fans lack from 360 isn't Halo3 but Bioshock, which has been rumored to come over eventually anyway. jyoung312
Most of those games are multiplatform and the ocne that are not are rumored to appear on 360 just as much as rumors say that Bioshock os going to PS3. (Official sources say no but you never know) As for the 360's shooters, I suggest you take a good look in their FPS/TPS section as Halo 3 and Bioshock aren't the best exclusive shooters on 360.

only 3, and we're getting a better verions of UT3, Orange Box. Haze is confirmed exclusive, Warhawk is SOny, as s RFom, Killzone, and Socom so none of those are even "rumored".
The problem with that question is that whatever game you might think to be the "PS3 Halo" by answering with that game you are condemning it to a second rate knock off in which case contradicts your answer.
The best answer to that question would be there isn't one. However try putting it in reverse and asking what is the 360's Metal Gear? Or even What is the 360's Little Big Planet? Again you will find that the answer is there isn't one. And even if further down the line games are developed that emulate the experience found in both these games they would still be second to the table and therefore won't receive the popularity boost that comes with the territory of being the first.
Halo was the first real FPS experiance on a console, before Halogameslike this were only found on PC'sand that is why it became so popular. Being a decent game helped too :) .
Think what will happen to the "other" console when the Halo series ends with Halo 3. There isn't any game in the near future to take the thrown. The PS3, on the other hand, have MGS, GoW 3, Heavenly Sword sequels, Warhawk, Haze, Killzone 2, GT5.janti_hakouz
Lets not forget the new IP based in the GOW (gears of war) universe. ;)
I come from a PC-background. And I must say halo is overrated. Boring story, boring enemies and just about everything is boring. So perhaps hmm I dont know what the ps3's halo would be.elms1
i totally agree i played the pc version and hated it.... but theres somethin else about halo that i cant explain that makes me hate it alot
Forget Halo for ps3 not happening cause halo is a microsoft theme so oviusly its not gonna happen!!:roll:Yung_Cesar
Tell some one 10 years ago that Sonic and Mario will be in a single game one day and they would have laughed. Not saying that Microsoft is going to pull a Sega but you never know what can happen.

Now this is why i hate Halo. There were tons of great shooters already on Playstation. Cant really think of any; people please help me out, cause i know im right!
With halo coming out monday night anyone feeling jelious that 360 fans will be getting their hands on THEIR biggest game? I tried out the beta at a friends house and even he, a diehard fan, admited he was very underwhellmed. Still though, I think with the release of UnrealTournament3 for PS3 only in Nov this year combined with Uncharted I think 360 fans will really start to feel jeliousy kickin in. Hopefully there will be a price cut aroudn the 1 year anniversary to really get the momentum back on track and show a huge sales boost.
[QUOTE="JonesWs"]ya ppl halo 3 isn't overrated its a great game im not a xbox fanboy i own both the systems enjoy playing on both consoles but if i had to choose a halo for ps3 it looks like killzone 2c0mplex
don't worry about what other people say. rarely anyone who hates on Halo has played through either Halo 1 or 2. at most... they get 30 minutes of playing the game in before they say "i hate Halo, i want PS3."
I own all 3 consoles and love Halo. As far as shooters go i think Killzone would be a good candidate as a similar game to Halo. R:FOM takes many of it's ideas from Halo as well and so it would be pretty similar too i guess.
ps3 doesn't currently have one... It needs one. Not to say that PS3 doesn't have good games...plus it's more popular franchises from last gen are coming soon.
I guess Killzone is being positioned as something to counter it, but right now it hasn't proven it. Halo is definitely a pretty big franchise and a good one too. Some naysayers will deny it but the sales and fans dispute that.
Halo is fun on consoles but nothing you haven't seen before if you have played shooters. It isn't revolutionary or unique but rather finely tuned. I used to play alot of pc fpses back in the day, and even bought halo1 for my pc and man it was crap, UT2004 blows it outta the water. Hell UT2004 runs on my pos laptop at pretty high settings with virtually no framerate drops, looks better than halo1 pc, came out a year later whereas Halo on my laptop can't even run at low settings without a crap framerate, but that is just pc. Anyway Halo is viewed religiously and while it is fun, other games should not be defined in reference to Halo bc there are games out there that are more fun, like Warhawk IMHO.

Well said. Not to mention the scores of titles on their way in 2008. I don't see anything like FF13 or MGS4 on the horizon for them. I'll let them enjoy it.
Although truth be told, I was rather underwhelmed myself with the last release of Halo as compared to the original.
what about resistance thats just like halops3wizard45
Umm...I like the PS3 as much as the next person and while Resistance was certainly a very solid launch game, I would hesistate to rank it as high as Halo ;)

i've played through both and i hate them, plus the mp is kinda boring.
I think PS3's big shooter this fall will be HAze.
Your saying that because your one of the ps3's biggest fanboys in here, I see all your post and you never have anything positive to say about any microsoft or xbox 360 games. So it's no surprise why you don't like any of the halo's.

Killzone 2 will surely be better than Halo 2; single player anyway. For Killzone 2 to be good online, lag free, there has to be dedicated derversor a grahics have to be degraded considerably!
Plus I think graphics says it all, if a company spends that type of money on a game; it gonna be good; they wouldnt risk it! Plus its pretty straight forward when your making a somewhat realistic first person shoot!
And how do you know any of this for sure? Have you played the single player yet to know it's going to be better than halo 3? Have you played online to see thats there's no lag? You stating all this like you've played the game already.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion. Relax.
your absolutely right, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But when your opinion is always ond-sided, it kinda takes away from your opinion, don't you think?SmoothBrother1
True. But he's on the right board for it ;)
I pity the person who espouses the same beliefs on SW. They'd never make it out alive. :P
Right now Killzone 2 looks pretty promising.... I played Killzone one and the only dissappointing thing was the level kept turning invisible which rendered it unplayable :-\ but I just hope Sony continues their strategy of having a wide array of new ideas and new characters and storiesalong withhaving many many different available genresinstead of using the same characters with different premises *cough cough* lol
MGS4 looks good it would probably be that, or maybe warhawk. the online is amazing peronally I think it will be the best online experience on a console this yesr, better than halo 3's multiplayer on multiple levels. but yeh definatley MGS$, it has had many games with an ongoing story like halo 3 and it is an exclusive.
plus there will most likely be much better games than halo in the near future with grapohics and games always improving. I have played the other 2 halo games and I personally liked R6 vegas and GRAW more. halo is just another run and gun shooter with online play ad and epic but simple storyline. If you want a good story get Darkness the storyline on that is much better than halos and has some comical bits in it. 'lemon curd!' man the darklings on the game are so funny honestly get darkness its great!
If you break down the question by year, id have to say Unreal Tournament 3 will be PS3s Halo. The graphics look much better and the vehicals just look sick. To me haze is ok looking, but in a month flooded with amazing games, i wouldn't think twice about purchasing it. But next year it would have to be Killzone 2 of course.
Doom
a you are right I have a friend who was trying to convince me that halo has the same type of tactics as Rainbow has and I just LOL in his face. Halo3 is going to get at the max a 9.8 and at the least 9.4 I think which means it is a must buy for 360 owners. but when you buy it dont try to make it something it is not. It is "mindless fun" as Doom put it and anybody I mean anybody can play it, which is not a bad thing. The average gamingjoe could not pick up MGS and enjoy it, but Joe could pick up Halo and have a blast, but then on the flip sidea MGS player who is not a Fanboy could pick up Halo and also have a good time.
Oh buy the way, even though I love MGS so much I think Halo3 will be getting a better score than MGS on gamespot just because it is gamespot. I hope that I am wrong because I know there will be some idiot that will be like "Oh MGS4 just got a 9.7 and Halo3 got a 9.8 PWNED suck it sony owners Halo Rulez." lol
I don't put UT3, although we all know it's going to be an amazing game, as a halo type game for the ps3 just because it's multiplatform. It's going to be on the 360 next year so really that take it's out that catorgory. MGS4 is going to be the system seller for the ps3 in my opinion because it's an exclusive, it's have a long and storied historyalready, just like halo and it's a high anticipated game. So to answer your question, I think MGS4 is going to push sales of the ps3 just like halo is going to do for the 360. Maybe not as much units as halo and the 360, but enough to make a big difference.SmoothBrother1
Well Sony has never just sold off of one either. So its more like a combo of MGS and FF "Huge over seas", God of War, whatever. But more of the mass of things.
The Ps3 doesn't need one because Sony uses many games for attraction instead of one good game. That's how the ps2 beat the original xboxaaron6581230
Very true.
Is it nice to have that one awesome game that everyone talks about? (even non-gaming fanatics have heard about Halo and it's impending release) Of course.
Is it nicer to have a whole stable of games that are good? Yup yup yup.
Here is the deal with Halo3...It will be a good fps but there are some many other good fps games coming out in the fall it won't stand out like it has in the past because there was no real competition. Thats changed now. For the first month of Halo 3's release it will do great and it will still do well because there is only like one other fps game going to the xbox360 this fall and thats call of duty 4. So a ps3 owner you have more fps games to choose from such as cod4, Haze, and UT3. Your not going to miss Halo3 with having those fps games to play. Its not like Halo 3 is going to be that much better than those games coming out for the ps3 if anything Halo 3 will be just as good as those games maybe a little worse.
Another way to look at this if one of these games flops well xbox360 fans will only have one good fps game to play this fall and thats cod4 that is if Halo 3 flops. However, if one of the ps3's fps games flops then you still have two other good fps games to rely on but I don't think any of these games will flop though.
Halo 3 will sell well but I can see call of duty 4 selling the most games this fall because its on both consoles and it is the most realistic fps game that you can buy for a console this fall with the most up to date weapons and areas.
I don't get the whole "Who will be PS3's Halo?" question. Why does it matter? Who will be the 360s MGS?
My opinion...who gives a ****?

I dont think ps3 needs a "halo 3", but i was assuming he ment a game as big as halo 3, a massive commercial and critical success that will push systems and millions of copies of one game.
I definitly think ps3 needs a game as big as halo but it doent need a sci-fi shooter as big as halo 3, MGS4 could be the mgs version that breaks into the next level for commercial success, it always gets great critical acclaim but a single mgs game doesnt sell anywhere near as much as a halo game, but the changes they have made to mgs4 could help it break into a more mainstream market, controls and camera have been re-vamped and i think this was a big put off for gamers un-familar with the franchise, mgs4 looking like the best mgs yet and could well be one of the best games ever.
UT3 is an amazing game but its huge fanbase is on pc, im sure it will do well on ps3 but its not going to reach heights of a halo 3 on console, just having an amazing game is not good enough to be a "halo 3" type of game its need to generate sales like halo 3 and get millions of pre-orders etc.
Sony used to have that one game that may even be bigger than halo but they lost gta, even having gta timed exclusive was a massive deal.
HL2 again thats multi-platform and it will probably sell better on 360 due to the bigger install base, but again its main fanbase is on pc, haze looks good but i very much doubt it will reach critical or commercial success anywhere near halo.
Warhawk is a great game but its not in the same league as halo,RFOM again is a fun game but its nowhere near the level of halo.
Now killzone 2 could be the big hit, with the right exposure and marketing that game could blow up, its graphics alone with garner mass hype, but really its needs to be reviewed as well as a halo game to blow up to the size of halo, people say reviews do not matter but history shows that mainly the best selling games are the best reviewed games, i think KZ2 could be reviewed as well as halo of the devs fix the few problems with it, mainly the AI, but im really optimistic about kz2.
COD4 will sell better on 360 due to install base, and the experience will be just about excatly the same, as the guy imply's in his comment the ps3 version of cod4 will be lag free nd have larger games, this is not true, the player count will be the same on both systems and both systems will use p2p, so lag will differ on both systems depending users internet speeds, just because rfom had dedicated servers for larger games does not mean every game does, infact RFOM is the only game to use dedicated servers on ps3, sorry warhawk also has a few dedicated servers.
Socom online goodness like he said, and he is right ps3 has plenty of sci-fi shooters but none like bioshock which ps3 only owners may get.
I think theres only one or two games that could be the "halo 3" for ps3, but this early in the ps3's life cycle i very much doubt a game on ps3 will garner commercial success like halo 3 basicly because of the fanbase.
And also halo 3 is not an over-rated game, its a great game, halo does not do anything innovative it does what dozens of shooters that have done before it just does them really well, halo is definitly a great game proven by critical success, if the game was over-rated there would at least be a few reviewers that thought the same but halo gets great reviews across the board proving its a great game, and im no big halo fan, i never even played the second game untill 3 weeks ago just to get up with the story for halo 3, ive never even played a single MP game of halo 2, i first played MP on the halo 3 beta, im just an un-biased gamer who speaks the truth regarding my opinion ,and even if i didnt like halo i would still give it the credit it deserves.
