has no one played resident evil 4? I mean the control scheme is the exact same. This isn't gears of war 5. Its not a run and gun shooter. If you don't like the game that's fine but the millions of people who buy and love the game will surely disagree with you. I think the controls are great. It adds to the suspense when you have to stop to fight. Resident Evil 1-3 didn't even have half of the mobility in this game, and resident evil 2 is considered one of the greatest games of all time.

Yea I agree. Ummm seriously its the same basic controls as like almost all the RE games in the series. If u a noob to series, and u been playing most of the run and gun games out I can understand how the controls are gonna be blah to u. Vets of the series arent gonna have a problem with them.

I loved the fact that you have to stand still. It builds the tension in the levels dramatically. The controls felt strange at first, I would always hold L2 instead R2 when trying to aim. But that was really just it. And this means a lot coming from someone who has never played Resident Evil before.

Pretty friggin stupid you cant move and shoot at the same time. Like idiotic. Even for, as someone said, a Japanese zombie survival game. The controls and game mechanics are awful.

The scariest thing about a purportedly scary game shouldn't be the awful control layout. If you have to rely on your shoddy "last-gen" controls to "build suspense" then you obviously haven't spent much time or effort on the rest of the game...you know like the atmosphere.

I wasnt really surprised with the controls. They're the exact same in RE4, but i would expect them to be impoved especially for a current gen title. Once you get used to it, they should become easier to use. When I played RE4 for a couple of hours I got use to the controls

It's weird for me...

I played RE4 and quickly got into the controls but not here in RE5 demo. I deleted the demo file after trying the two stages available.

first off, i'm a huge fan of the series. re2 and re4 are my two faves. even then the re5 control scheme is terrible. after playing deadspace and the many many other 3rd person shooters for the ps3.. how could capcom disable "MOVE AND SHOOT"? compare to what's already out there i'm quite disappointed. i could understand this happening if we're in sniper mode with a sniper rifle.. but it's a handgun and knife. sad thing is capcom will lose a lot of the new-gen gamers because of this.

I am suprised people are complaining about the controls and game play. There are so many games in the series now people should know what to expect. People should be glad they got ride of the tank controls and gave assistance in the aiming department. I played RE on the GC and Wii and I found these controls simple. Granted I would love to play this game or atleast the past ones with Wii controls but I find no problems with the controls at all. I like that you can switch weapons withouot going into the menu all the time.

I don't see why everyone is complaining about running and shooting. You realize how much accuracy is lost when you are moving? Now I can definitely understand with the knife. I think it should be allowed to be equipped by pushing L1 and then you can stab with it by pressing R2, then press L1 again to put it away and pull your gun back out. It would make much more sense. I'm not going to stand in a corner with a knife when the other guy has a shovel. Makes no sense. But that was my only beef with the controls. I loved RE4 and will love this one just as much, probably a lot more.

It was like res evil four for me but it was still awkward because i have that game on the cube. I'll keep practicing until the game comes out and if im not used to it by then im sure that i can map it a different way. I think this game is sweet so far by the way.

Compared to the original Resident Evils it's nothing... But Compared to other games today this is a must buy!
As for the controls... They were a little slow at first... I'd rather play it on a wiimote haha. But it just takes some getting used to.

Its funny how the same people that says they are happy the game "evolved" into what it is today (a "Run n' Gun game), its the same people defending the outdated gameplay. After playing Dead Space, the RE5 gameplay should be AT LEAST like that.

And no, RE4 and 5 are not survival-horror games, there is no "horror" element involved in the game anymore, and this game is as survival as a generic 3rd person shooter, just trying to not get hit doesnt make a game survival.

Since RE4 I cant count on CAPCOM to deliver a Survival-horror game, i know that this kind of games sells better since its more "casual player" friendly, you can just pic up this game and have a good time, and i dont expect they change that.

By no means i say they are bad games, im pretty sure a LOT of people will like it.

But i will keep my hopes up for the Survival-Horror genere, Dead Space is a step in the right direction, new gameplay, horror elements, survival aspects......... i feel like DS is for this time what the old resident evil titles where for its time...

(Oh yeah, and for the people that says RE4 and 5 are not "REAL" Resident evil games, well, they are... thats why they are called RE... maybe they dont feel the same, but the sad truth is that they are....)

What did you expect? It was the exact same control set up used in the last game, what's so hard about it? It's not designed to be a shooter. There isn't a single survival horror game that I can honestly say has smooth controls so I don't know what any of you were expecting.

Dead Space has a very smooth controls in general, and compared to RE5... its godlike... so CAPCOM CAN implement better controls, they are just too lazy to do it. (Come on, EA sucks 99.99% of the times, i hate them, but i love CAPCOM, if EA can do it, CAPCOM can do it a 100 times better if they try)

And RE5 its not a survival-horror game, because its so inclined to action, it should have better control.

BTW there are like 4 different control schemes pick one

Well i am a vet of the series and shooting and not moving doesnot add susspense it pisses you off because your charcter though a trained officer and special unit person can not bring themeselves to even twictch while shooting let alone while reloading this needed to be fixed from day one or the second game or whatever you could shoot and move fine on deadspace and that game is ten times scarier in the first minute than the whole re series

And it shouldnt, having frustrating controls should NEVER be the rule (or motive of pride) just because tradition, this is where games should be trying to improve more and more each time. And the control schemes could be 1 million if they like, because its not about the buttons, its about the whole feeling of the game, being clunky in controls can not be remediated by changing only the fire button or run button toother function.

This is crazy ... RE4 is one of the all time great games, i dont think there was as much complaining about the controls back then than there is with RE5 .. whats happend? The control system is the same in both games and what a hell of a ride was RE4 .. can't wait for RE5. Play the demo a few times give it time, make a lot of space and distance between you and them ( using the quick turn option left stick+ X ) and youll find a truly great game.

^ agree. I think a good number of ppl were hoping for updated controls, myself included. Capcom really should have taken a page from EA on Deadspace's controls.
