I think that if they add in some new features it wont be so bad, only if they keep the classic stuff you mentioned. RE4 was a good game and i agree, but change is good or else it gets stale...but just keep the essentials that made it a great series.

i dont think we can judge the amount of puzzles in the game yet. other than the extended trailer... we don't know a lot about its gameplay.

,yea, I think RE1 was the creepyist, and after that they started becoming more main stream. i guess they are trying to appeal to a broader audience. . re4 was still great and re5 will be 2 if we ever get a chance to play it.

and the thing about them not being zombies in RE4 was stupid. I just called them leeches from RE0.

I don't know, I thought RE4 was pretty scary.  In fact, I thought that the more visceral feel of the controls made it a more immersive horror environment, even if Leon was pretty much able to lay waste to an entire region's worth of ganados without hardly breaking out the medspray.

I think the second was the best but I do agree what you said about the nemesis I hate when it would pop out of no where chasing you.

I think that re4 was great but not scary, just as everyone else thought. the only scary part was when you were in the prison cells in the castle and that guy with no eyes and swords came crashing at you. reminds me of something on gears of war, just can't put my finger on it.....

The second resident evil game is by far the most scary of them all. I really liked what they did with RE3 though and how the game took place in the city. If it was not for RE4 then RE3 would be my favorite but RE2 is the most scary RE game that I've played and I've played them all.

I disagree....the first Resident Evil was creepy as hell....have we all forgotten about Hunters jumping from off screen taking off your head even though you have full energy????

R.E.1 - Scary

R.E.2 - too easy cuz too much ammo

R.E.3 - good installment....only scary thing is Nemesis.....ok....its scary:|

Code Veronica - .......great game....what do you think? its been a while for me...

R.E.4- an action adventure game that felt NOTHING like an R.E. enjoyed it, but what ever happened to "survival horror"?

pretty much agree with TC and others.

I like the theme of zombies and horror, but unfortunately RE series completely forgot about horror.

How are we supposed to be scared of zombies when we have so much weapons to blast them all?

RE1 was scary because we had to run away instead of fighting our way through, hope that feeling comes back for RE games.

RE2 was the best for me! but i do think Survial Horror is a more fitting term for RE now then it was in the past. it's alot more brutal and you really need your wits to make it out alive. it's not just some mindless shooter! on the other hand RE has not creepted me out in a long long time. (RE2 was creepy). but judgeing from this new trailer i think the chill factor is going to run high in number 5!

Don't get me wrong I've played them all (except the cube ones) but Never too far besides part 3 but I had to start over 3 times when I got to the final boss fight for multiple reasons.

1st restart.. not enough ammo

2e restart.. got the magnum in the police station instead of the grenade launcher...

3rd restart.. Memory card broken.

so by that time the ps2 came out so I pretty much gave up on R.E. 3

Agreed, that's why I'm more excited about RE Umbrella chronicles for Wii then RE5. I like the way they did with the controls for RE4 but RE4 still at fifth place on my list of all RE's. What happened with survivor horror? Don't get me wrong, I'll buy anyway because I'm fan and I own all of then for PS1, PS2 and Gamecube, but very dissapoited with capcom/developers.

I'm glad that many people like the previous RE games. Nowadays most of so called RE fan only played RE4. The first ones was magic, you were playing shaking at midnight because was scary, back 10 years ago the graphics for PS1 was really good and the sound. Off course today is out of date but I still play all my magic RE games, simply classic.

Not just hunters, I remembered for the first time that dog jumped through that window, man, the tv volume was high and was very scary back then. Other subject is that many people have faith the RE5 might be scary, I don't feel that, it's a lot of sunshine and those places don't look scary yet, RE5 probably will be another action/adventure RE4 updated.

i say if they retained the prevous stories a little bit it would be good and focus on scaring us, have the lickers or similar creautres, have alot of dark lighting whee things can ppop out etc, also bring back the zombies...if you want jus make there be more of them, and have the fast (dawn of the dead) or something, i also miss the destroyed city

I should have made myself more clear. The first 2 resident evil games were scary. But 4 was just a fun action game with a cool setting. All of the silent hills have been scary...well except for Silent Hill 4...what a disappointment, you didn't even get a flashlight! That's how bright the game was!!!!

Anyway, I'm imagining indoor next-gen RE, with (like you said) fast zombies. Imagine running through a house with that little analog stick pressedas far upas itwill go, sprinting, and having 4+ zombies right on your tail, slamming up against walls when the hallwaymakes a90degree turn, because they can't slow down fast enough, and screaming at you. That would be flippin' scary.

Resident evil 4 was only not scary because of the fact the enemys were SPANISH (Not a terrifying nationality) and giggling midgits for boss battles. Although the fight with right hand man in the sewer was scary, and the first time you realise the ganados use ladders to get in the second story windows. Not scary in the same way though, but with the volumes of african villagers running at you with only a handgun, me thinks that there will be alot of running in RE5. And hopefully you acctually RUN rather than jog like leon did.

i think everything about res4 sucked except for the camera angle. you can tell capcom made it more of an action game to bring more gamers in. i beat 1,2,3, veronica. i remeber playing the 1st one at around midnight and scaring the crap out of me. res 4 only had a couple of differant bad guys. they better make the 5th one the old stile with res 4 camera. way on earth did leon be stiff as a board. you call that running. all i did was yell at the screan run forest run.

I tottally agree with the poster.

Resident evil is dying... I just wish they changed the name of RE5 to smth like ... I dunno...

What I want to say is that I wish they kept RE as the RE 1,2,3 and had a new name for RE4,5. The games could use the same story backround but have different style...

I didn't enjoy RE4. Had the game been a side story or a different IP entirely I probably would have enjoyed it, but the Resident Evil I know and love is dead. I can only hope now that RE: Umbrella Chronicles has something in it for me to enjoy.

There should be an anniversary for RE much like Tomb Raider Anninversary. That would be such a cool idea to have an updated version of the first game with extra weapons, and more aggressive zombies and hunters. It would cost $30 dollars of course.

The videos for RE Umbrella chronicled looks freaky, so in other words should be awesome, just the way RE game should be.

While they're no Mr. X or Nemisis, those chainsaw freaks made you tense up. Cuz you KNOW that the second you hear that motor revving up your forget all about the pitchfork carrying ganados and locate the one with the chainsaw. But, I gotta say the game isn't scary anymore, just uped the tensity a few notches, which doesn't really matter to me cuz it's still a great game.

Resident Evil is good game, but it isn't a game you would want to be scared.

Lucky for us, there are other franchise that really focus on horror part of the game.

Personally I think Fatal Frame series is scariest game of all. It isn't difficult, it is just scary.

And then there is Rule of Rose. I never thought I can think being scared is beautiful thing. Very artistic game and has very unique way of giving you goosebumps at the sametime think it is beautiful.

Ye it's not as good wihout the real decaying corpses shuffling around. The camera angles need to come back as well, they used to keep you tense because you always expected something to happen. They also made it harder. Still, RE4 was a good game and RE 5 probably will be as well.

Surely RE4 was one of the best in the series if not THE best and surely RE5 will follow. But it has changed and became more action adventure than horror and less puzzles, there was nothing scary about RE4 and thats what I didn't like, I sure hope RE5 will will have a mix of the old and new school.

What do you think?

RE4 WAS DEFINELEY not THE BEST. Resident evil 2 was. It comes at 2nd. 5 is gonna be a clone of 4,

Well one thing's for sure. The controls were terrible in past RE games. RE4 I found was the best. I even liked that parasite storyline and the grittiness of it. They were smarter, faster and stronger than dead zombies. Even the monsters were better. Instead of the monsters being the "invaders", you were the invader this time. RE4 played like a RE game should play, more opt to a controler. RE games in the past was more like a "point & click" game done with a controler. I loved RE3, but after I played 4 and went back to the old RE games, I was thinking "YUCK!". (Control wise, not game wise or graphic wise. Thought I would point that out)

What RE4 did was fix all of the franchise problems. For that, it did get rid of some of the things that make RE, RE. Mainly the scary atmosphere. I loved the dose of action, and I want it the same, but more puzzles would be appreciated. I love RE4, but my main beef was the story. They completely gave us an unsatisfying conclusion to the Umbrella arc and threw us at something completely different. It was a great chapter, don't get me wrong, and clearly a good start for a new arc, but I'll rather had them stick with the original story of Leon infiltrating the heart of Umbrella and finally put an ending to it. A satisfying one.

I sure hope there is a Chris-Wesker confrontation in RE5:D
