The one thing xbox really has over sony is the superior online experience, though. If Sony started charging they might be able to outperform Microsoft in terms of online capabilities and features and be the go to console for competitive multiplayer. Just saying.
With DC Universe Online's dramatic success of being Sony's fastest selling game ever in just one week, its been proven that a subcription to play a game won't phase gamers.
Everything is pointing in the direction of an online subscription. Its not longer an "if" but a "when". So my question is what will you do?

it sucks but without this 360 probably wouldnt have been able to get themselves a chance of trying console gaming hardware again for the next generation. at this point i feel it is fair but i really hope they try to make themselves more appealing and charge a little less, and make a huge improvement, offer everything xbla offers and more. for a free network psn has done a great job. so i wouldnt mind paying for more. but they gotta be able to fight piracy one war or another and this is probably one of the best ways to do that. it would be more appropriate if they waited, maybe till ps4 or something but whatever they decide im sure theyll make it as appealing as they possibly can for their consumers, ive been a supporter since day one and the quality of games sonys been able to deliver and moreso their hardware in playstation has been more than enough for me to win me over. im a die hard fan and im sure its been tough for them this generation and even more tough for them to figure out how to make this generally accepted by their fans, but i continue to support them because they havent dissapointed me yet.
If Sony charges, all Sony console owners need to do is the same thing PC gamers did and 360 gamers failed to do, not pay. GFWL is free because PC gamers were not having it. 360 owners enable MS to charge because not only are they paying, they are defending MS's fee. I would charge too if people just pay up and actually make me the good guy for charging. If Sony charges and no one pays, they will remove the charge quickly, just like MS did with GFWL. I think a couple months of not gaming online is worth showing them they can't just do what they please.
I think PC will gain popularity if the consoles all charge to play online. like people already said, you already payed for the online portion of the game with your 60 bucks. The used game thing I understand entirely, but if you buy the game new, you should be able to go online and play it without having to pay a fee(not including mmo of course).
what will i do? pay the subcription cost. he's right about gamers having to accept the fact multiplayer having to go subscription.

Not a chance im paying for >Peer to Peer< gaming, yes that's right xbox 360 users get charged a fee for using their own internet to play games, What a bloody joke!!! I love my ps3 but if this happens I would go PC only and never look back, because steam is better than PSN and xbox live and it's free...... and we ppl dont expect anything for free, we already pay for our own internet that is what gets used for peer to peer gaming. xbox live in the biggest scam in gaming history just about, having to pay to play games on ur own internet that you already pay for is a joke.
i think its a gamble for them. so many people buy ps3 because they can play online for free. this is a big significant pro for u sony, r u sure u wanna give it away?
I believe it will stay free, at least the services that are free now. I know they could start charging for online but that would be a really bad move from them. Im quite sure they will charge on ps4 :P
if theyre are planning to charge for psn they have to do something with game prices theyre to high to also pay for playing online, and people who live outside united states have to play even more for the games. i think sadly everyone just have to suck it up and lots of people will stop playing online if sony decides to cherge
