After finally completeing this game I gotta say it has been quite an amazing adventure. From start to finish, absolutely amazing. The game was constantly doing things I had yet seen in a videogame. In a way it kind of ruined gaming for me because this is the quality of gaming I will expect out of future games. And if the developers can't pull off quality of this caliber on the PS3 then they won't be recieving my money for their game. Take note devs! MGS4 raised the bar. It's time for you guys to start delivering what a PS3 is capable of doing.

Absolutely true

Then again they did it with MGS3 as well.

MGS3 was probably the best looking game the PS2 ever had, was hard to believe it wasn't a next gen game.

MGS4 really has raised the bar in terms of graphics and in-game story-telling. The only way is up from here.

Problem is, that you will always have others who will make cheap cash-in games that look and play poor but will sell well due to what I call the 'Granny factor'. The poor little dears don't know what to give us for xmas. So, they buy **** they recognise.

Then i guess you'll save a lot of money in the times to come. MGS4 will be one hell of a tough game to match or surpass.

I know what you mean, I havn't really been able to play any other games since I played the holy greatness that is MGS4 without becoming bored.Dementia_7

Same here. I wish the devs do EXACTLY what TC suggested because it won't be fun playing a 3rd person game that is inferior to what MGS4 offered. Follow this rule DEVS, if you can surpass the following, you shall surpass MGS4 overall quality:

1) The camera system. MGS4 had 3 different camera systems and each were TOP NOTCH. From 3D camera to over shoulder to FPS(I am sorry, but FPS in MGS4 beats a couple of FPS games I'll tell you why keep reading). The player will enjoy each camera. Not to mention you can turn on LOCK ON on/off if you want. It's off by default and I don't suggest you turn it on.

2) The gameplay. MGS4's gameplay is the best yet in the series and is not limited like most games out there. Man run, walk, crouch + walk/run, crawl, crawl on your back, play dead(on your back or stomach), crawl + shoot, standing + shooting, crawl + shoot, or crawl on your back + system, CQC(7 different moves) with pistols/bare hands/knife and you can do CQC using your rifle which is unique to rifles not like the other 7 moves, hold ennemies up having them either standing or holding them up after performing the CQC that throw them slowly on the ground without knocking out, search ennemy(on floor/standing), pick up their weapons and STRIP them from there weapon using CQC too, grab their balls, roll on the ground, while crawling, move slowly from right to left... Go stealth, use the new cover system by putting your body on the wall(standing or crouching) and peek(above, right, left) or peek(above right left) + Shooting(rifles/pistols), OCTO CAMO(my favorite feature) to blend in your surrounding, face camo to make it even more camouflaged, different faces, costumes(suit, militia cloathes, Altair's disguise), CARDBOARD BOX, Drum Cam, roll + Drum Can, move(slowly/fast) in drum can/CardBoard Box, hide in closet, hide ennemies body in closets, hide inside a garbage can and use your pistol to take out ennemy soldier from the inside while peeking, use the Mark II and make Snake control him with a PS3 controller to do some crazy sh*t....

3) Weapons. over 77 weapons with CUSTOMIZATIONS(fully customized not like COD4). Weapon models = The BEST, sound of bullets and weapons = TOP NOTCH. Each bullet from each weapon sounds different from each other(GET a 5.1 surround), the reload on weapons = REALSTIC and not glitchy, the details on the weapons are crystal clear and you can CLEARLY see your customized weapon during gameplay. Not to mention the unlockable ones.

4) Items. IPOD, cardboard box, drum can, syringe, PENTAZAMINE to hold your breath during sniping or fire fights(if your stamina is low), regain energy drink(to restore your stamina), rations, noodles, cigarettes, digital camera to take pics during the game and the SOLID EYE(my second favorite) Night Vision + Thermal + scope + sophisticated radar(shows ennemy locations, ennemy + milita informations such as name, weapons their holding and the amount of bullets left)

5) Graphics. From face models, to weapons details, to Gekkos to everything, considering the LOADS of things happening on the screen, MGS4 is a masterpiece in that department.

6) Sound, get a 5.1 system and enjoy the game with the BEST sound around. Not one of the best.....it's THE BEST.

7) The cutscenes. The best thing in gaming. HIDEO KOJIMA ONCE AGAIN DIT IT! From the characters, to the acting to the damn music, emotions, the cutscenes in MGS4 are ZOMG! (I am ready to cut my balls if a game in the future can surpass the quality of those cutscenes unless MGS5 comes out and Hideo Kojima is directing it)

8- Music. Harry Gregson-Williams you're a genius. Much like the other Metal Gear, what else to expect? TOP NOTCH music that some play with the player's emotions.

9) The storyline. Which game succeeded to tell in details a 20 years old story? Metal Gear from 1987 - 2008. One of the best stories in stories and kinda beats most Hollywood action film's/spy movies. The details in the storyline are ABOVE anything in gaming. It's one story divided to 7 Metal Gear titles throughout 20 years. Not easy if you think about it. Kojima succeeded to match each events and create awesome story twists that people still talk about.

10) Boss battles. What to expect from a Metal Gear game when it comes to Boss Battles? CREATIVITY and UNIQENESS. The beasts, beauties,
REX vs RAY(ZOMG) and Snake vs Liquid Ocelot>> That boss fight is AMAZING!!
11) Characters.
Snake and Big Boss in the same scene = OWNAGE.
Seriously, the characters in the Metal Gear universe are AWESOME. Beautiful hot chicks, old men, young men, kids...

12) Easter Eggs + Jokes. Once again thank you Mr. Kojima.

13) Unlockables. Weapons + Items + Costumes... = Worth replaying the game for.

14) REPLAY VALUE = VERY HIGH!

15) Difficulties and AI = CHALLANGING!

16) Mission briefings and controlling the Mark II during the briefings is an awesome feature.

etc....................... Don't know what to say but this game is overall a MASTERPIECE.

wow previous post said it all!

the game is stunning

its sad because MGS4 ruin all my other games... i was playing GTA IV today and i played 4 5 mins and got bored then i played some CoD4 and the resistance all with the same result...

the game just works... everything works... its perfect... there are no flaws to the game... im still recovering from the impact the end of the game had on me... just fantastic... it will be difficult for any dev to top this perhaps even Kojima himself... this game is a true work of art in every form... graphically, sound, story, comically, sex apeal (hot character model for B&B corps), AI, everything!

ill probably be playing throught this game again and again and again for a very long time until something better comes out...

Dude, worse way to list the features of the game by giving away SPOILERS. Jeez, 3k+ post and you can't see that you are spoiling the game for those who haven't beaten/got it yet. I understand you are listing things that make the game great, but can't you do it without spoinling it? Sure you list pretty much 2 spoilers, BUT THEY ARE THE 2 BIGGEST ONES. *sigh*

You guys are right. MGS did raise the bar. But you know, the last MGS game I played was II, and I thought that game was revolutionary. As I am currently playing MGS4, I cant help thinking that this game is essentially the same exact thing as MGS2. Even the story is about the same shlt. Different bosses, same battles. I know this game is great, but aside from adding very few new gameplay aspects, I really think they only raised the bar with the WAY the story is told (how it is implemented into the gameplay) and of course the graphics/physics.

Ah, maybe I'm being too critical. I'm impressed, but I still think the bar can be raised much much further on the PS3. I guarantee all the games that are being released now will seem inferior compared to the ones we see in 3-4 years time. All the perfect 10 scores we see now are given without any consideration for the developers' current state of infancy on the PS3. As critics, we must allow for technological progression. I don't see that happening as of yet.

It's disconcerting.

Cheers,

TheKnoa

It's sad just sad. When will a game surpass MGS4 epicness? and what kind of a game would it be? And you know what's funny? They always bring up the Gears 2 vs MGS4 threads in system wars without realizing how detailed MGS4 is in all of gaming aspects. Gears 2 might be a great game but not special. It might have better graphics and then what? You know what I'm saying? And when I mentioned in my previous post it has replay value I didn't mean online. ;)

No one is going to put that much efffort into a PS3 exlusive except Sony obviously. Most games are multiplat, so you will be waiting for quite some time to play a game of equal quality.

Yes MGS4 truly did raise the bar, the game is masterpiece, it's not perfect but it's the best stealth action game out there and the perfect example of current gen gaming entertainment.

Its been a long time since I re-played a game for more than 4 times while playing it since day 1, MGS4 has done it. I come to realize that I'm back to when I used to play games often. for the past few years I would oplay a game and sometimes give up on it after beating it 1-2 times, but MGS4 has so much replay value that I was just shocked that I have been playin this game for awhile now and I'm not getting bored not once!

Mr. Kojima made that possible, he brought that essence of harcore gaming back into me, because before I see a bunch of games that of course I play, but sumhow got bored quickly. This game is truly ahead of its time and I don't know who can really pull off a quality game like this one. Well, to be honest I am expecting RE5 and FFXIII to be at the same level of quality as MGS4, the first REAL masterpiece of this current gen.

The bar is Metal Gear.

Remember 1998. 2001-2004 and 2008. "1998", when it all began on PLAYSTATION.

In cinematics? Yes. In gameplay? No. And with that said, I'd prefer devs move away from cutscenes and tell their stories like BioShock, System Shock, Half-Life and so on.

totally agree, I'm getting bored with other games now. Keeps coming back to MGS4 and replaying it. Same case happened with MGS3 , it was the only game that I never got tired from replaying. There is an effort of 20 years put into this series, I don't think we'll see anything matching, not any time soon.

I kinda wish I played a few other games i put on hold for mgs 4 cause it´s just so good. I can still have fun in other games but not close to the fun I had in MGS 4.

p.s if you dont have a ps3 then get one and get mgs 4, you wont regret it

MGS4 didn't raise the bar...

...it blew the bar up, ate it, and then burried it into the earth so other games can't get near it. Yeah, it's just that good.

In a way it kind of ruined gaming for me because this is the quality of gaming I will expect out of future games. And if the developers can't pull off quality of this caliber on the PS3 then they won't be recieving my money for their game. Take note devs! MGS4 raised the bar. It's time for you guys to start delivering what a PS3 is capable of doing.JKnaperek

I know *exactly* how you feel. They should call this post MGS4 syndrome or something because a lot of gamers are suffering from this.

Seriously I completely felt the same way, so many games just seem so boring and pointless now. I love MGS4!

In cinematics? Yes. In gameplay? No. And with that said, I'd prefer devs move away from cutscenes and tell their stories like BioShock, System Shock, Half-Life and so on.BioShockOwnz

thank you. I completed this game and didn't even want to see the ending cuz i just got tired of 45 min cutscene which should of been 15 minz but it was extended. and the gameplay wasn't that good especially the shooting. O and how i can be shot by a sniper bullet and hit the floor dizzy . this game is no more than a 9.0 . Bioshock is gonna be plain better even as a port due to no 45 min cut scene and it won't try to do someting it was never built for.( msg shooting mechanics is annoying and not even close to good) Lets not get into mg0 which blows hard chunks.

I can totally see the MGS series apeasing the minority of buyers and doing a Bioshock. :| AKA, I hope MGS5 does just as good as a job as MGS4 did...of course better. :D

Sweet, I'll buy it with my PS3.

But I don't know... maybe I'll buy other games I want to play 'cause MGS4 is going to ruin them for me. Just like MGS3 in its greatnes ruined all the games on PS2 (besides SotC).

I hope someone's going to understand my not-so-good english:D

well coming from a guy named bioshockownz and a guy who is toostoned those opinions dont mean to much to me... lol jk.

But come on the shooting was great in MGS4... to tell the truth it was the best I have played. To be able to shoot from all postions and roll around while shootine is crazy great. Plus it was very accurate. Now I will say some people skill levels can make the game look bad.

Example: My friend came over the other day and I let him play the game for half the day and man he and I were getting bored at his gameplay, but when I got on the sticks he was like MAN I didnt even know I could do all that...and he asked me just to play.

Oh and to answer your question as to why you were dizzy after you were shot by a sniper it is because that gun is a tranq sniper gun... its been in the past few games.

OHHHHHHHHHHHHH yea

I am guessing to the guy who said he skipped the ending cutscene cause he was tired of watching them was new to the series, because there is no way in the world a person who was invested into the Metal Gear story over the years could just skip that cutscene without knowing what was going to happen.

So, they buy **** they recognise.

eregol

I have to disagree there Final fantasy XII and God of War 2 both looked better graphics wise
