[QUOTE="Scianix-Black"][QUOTE="DataDream"] I would put Uncharted and Tomb Raider in the exact same genre - of adventure gaming. However the rest in this list I feel are not true adventure games. Just my opinion.DataDream
But is it right to ****fy a game as an "Adventure Game" when the character is going on the adventure and not you?
I mean, to me an adventure game would be Oblivion because I'm exploring and discovering new places.
But with Uncharted or Tomb Raider, it's all pretty linear and the only person doing the exploring is the main character.
What do you think?
Hmmm - those are interesting points. Obviously a game like Oblivion is a "true" adventure game. I guess though by your definition only RPG's would qualify as adventure games. Though I do see what you're saying and agree.
There is definitely adventure to be had in Oblivion if you want to find it.
And you're right that Uncharted and TR are pretty linear - VERY linear actually.
I think in the game industry when they label a game as an "Adventure" game it primarily has to do with the old formula left over from the days of Myst and games like that. If the primary point of the game is puzzle solving and foucussed on discovery - they label it as "Adventure". These things of course do also coincide with the story that is presented.
So all in all I pretty much agree with everything you have said SB - I especially like your Oblivion statement as that is a real adventure - it's up to you what you do and where you explore.
Yeah, old habits I guess.
Either way, I still consider Uncharted to be a Third Person Action Game, but an Adventure Story.
And I don't necessarily consider all RPG's to be Adventure games, just the games where I'm exploring.
So games like Grand Theft Auto fall under this category as well, but that's just me.
