I haven't been able to bring myself finish it yet. There's not all that much to do or find outside of the missions (unlike the previous games) and the missions themselves have gotten a little too repetitive for my tastes. It's just the same stuff over and over.
Most of the extra stuff is useless and indeed, boring. The social aspects ruined it slightly for me. Who thought it would be a good idea to have some stupid in-game friends call you every 5 minutes (often in the middle of a mission) to ask you go bowling, or whatever?
i think people were expecting it to last as long as VC or SAANIALATOR136Ty, its sorta like we love every visual aspect, but the story was just a glimpse of the game, it should have gone 50 h of story like SA.

Silent-Hal
Hit the nail right on the head.
Once you've done the 'kill, steal, drive, repeat' missions your left with nothing.
It's overrated because it's a broken and repetitive game. Yet it gest more praise from critics than true masterpeices like MGS4.metalgear-s
Yep;)
[QUOTE="mamkem6"]Agreed, i actually liked the story though, thought it was original. Vice City was a rip of Scarface and SA was a rip of Boyz in the Hood and Menance to Society. and yet few ppl seem to understand this.It is the same like its predecessor only with better graphics and online

Everybody is saying that gta is overrated and boring. The game had an amazing 20+ hour long campaign with amazing detail and many really fun multiplayer modes. What else do people want? I guess they thought the game would last forever and they could drive around the city and blow up cars and it would never get boring. But it's just a game, and it has to end. Post what you think of GTA IV now that the hype is gone. ihacker
The game also had a not-so-amazing 20 FPS frame rate, more bugs than the city dump, a vanilla storyline with unlikeable characters and the only "new" feature was that they applied the boring dating mechanic from San Andreas and applied it to men to, only made it more obnoxious and intrusive. That and the story line is all there is to GTA4. There's no side missions that are any fun at all... and you go around the city to kill a few hundred pigeons -- for what? A helicopter that isn't half as good as the Hunter and you need a helicopter to get to that helicopter and it's just a mess. I dunno, this game just wasn't half as fun as any other GTA game I've played. I'd still give it an 8.5, but I think anyone who gives this a 10 is either a fool or has some kind of hidden agenda.
[QUOTE="NSR34GTR"]the game no way deserved a 10soren008
neither did MGS4 .. :o
Actually MGS4 did. Since it was the closest to perfect a game could come.[QUOTE="soren008"][QUOTE="NSR34GTR"]the game no way deserved a 10metalgear-s

Actually MGS4 did. Since it was the closest to perfect a game could come.well it's short & online is awful, unlocks are pretty dull
cutscenes can be cheesy & shallow sometimes
It's great, but it's not perfection by a long shot
GTA IV is being called overrated because so many people were hyping this game to levels that were unattainable to develop.
Everyone complained about the graphics in the previous installments, so R* put forth more effort to drastically improve the graphics and physics engine, therefore there were losses to the amount of gameplay, storyline, and extra content. Because you can only program so much in a game.
The aiming system was always sub-par at best, now with a much better aiming system, everyone finds something new to complain about.
People say the driving is so much worse, but I guess most of those people can't comprehend that a cars has mass, and that mass transfers as the car turns, accelerates and brakes. If anyone has ever actually pushed a car to its limits cornering they will have an appreciation for the driving improvements. Not to mention that each car has more power as the engine builds up revs making for a much more realistic driving experience.
I agree the social aspect is annoying when in a mission and a friend wants to go drinking, but trust me when you're done with the storyline and just free roaming its nice to still have something going on in the game.
Basically the problem lies with so many people becoming spoiled if you will, and expecting impossible products to be developed for them. Yet they will still say it's too expensive and not good enough. But you can bet they don't try that hard to please in their line of work.
Nothing in this world is perfect but some things come close enough to warrant a perfect score. And IMO like many others GTA IV deserves a 10.
I rated this game a 6.5
Who cares about the graphics, they could have done away with that and could have actually maked the game fun, I want my money back.Oh. IMO.
Everyone says it's overrated because it gets undeserving 10's from fanboys._Classic_Gamer_
Fanboys yes, but what about the majority of professional critics and reviewers?
I thought it had horrible gameplay, controls and story. There was nothing I liked about the game except the radio stations. I have never played a GTA game before IV and I will never play another one after it.-Renegade
Biased much?
I think it's probably due to the lack of small extra RPG feature's which were present in SA and next to nothing apart from weapons to spend your money on. Just basically not much to do if you don't wish to follow the main plot. However multiplayer I think was supposed to be the answer to that problem but sadly for me just didn't quite cut it.PStringa
Yep, that was the thing that bothered me the most. I consider that all games require little RPG elements in this age to keep you going. There are only a few that can go away without them. But in GTA, you need them, a reason to be there or to use something. Not having at least skills was a real piece of crap imo.

I kinda liked that Niko could already handle a gun, but I liked it more in GTA SA when I was dual wielding and gaining lock-on distance as my skills with a certain weapon increased. I agree that RPG elements are what helps prolong the incentive of playing almost any game, and would have definitly improved on GTA IV.
It's great, but it's not perfection by a long shot soren008MGS4 has the best story, best graphics and awesome gameplay. There is not much more to wish. Plus it's got great replay value.

No to all of that. I finished MGS4 and put it on the shelf. I have no need to replay it.

The game is amazing I agree.
But If we look back at VC and SA we would be able to see how much content there was in the game aside from the main story.
For example and these are a few of many things that should have been worked on:
U cant buy property
U cant collect weekly or daily money from places that u own or u have control over.
There is not a signle gang that hates u. I drive down the street feeling safe no one is gonna shoot me or give me a reason to shoot them.
It is still an amazing game, but if they update it that would be great.

I disagree. I like the more gritty and realistic vibe of GTA IV.
Also, don't you think the storyline is kind of ruined when Niko says "I need money" despite the fact he just earned $250,000 from 1 job alone? Fair enough early on in the storyline you're very poor but when you're pushing a $1,000,000 and he STILL says he wants to earn more money, it feels sort of, well, wrong.
It takes away the whole "trying to live the American dream" of cars, money and women when he is practically living it anyway.
