They just announced the new price "cut" to $6,500 pesos, in dollars that is $500 dollars. I think prices in country's with less resources must be lower than the "rich" country's, jeez $500 dollars for a country that just have a 10.5% losses of their GDP :?

Yes i know, and its incredible how Mexicans have to work to get technology, its just ridiculous, they have to pay more than $1,000 USD for an Iphone, in taxes they have to pay approx 33% of their incoming, they have to pay a tax call tenensia (it's a tax that you have to pay every year for having a car and you have to pay the 5% of you car value every freaking year).

Right now Mexico its having a really bad crisis, and they are supposed to have a Agreement of free trade right?? so why they have to pay that much money for stuff like this?

Well there are things that i never going to understand.

Almost hale the economist have the sources to back up this crisis in a way, the 53% of the incoming of this country are from oil, and guess what's happening with oil??

Mexico by now has no sources to back up the banks or anything because they don't have money to help the economy.

You can't compare just exchange rates there are a lot of other factors that go into the price as well. For Mexico it could be taxes, tariffs, and extra fees like who Sony had to pay off to even be able to sell the PS3 there.

Make the maths, its 299 for the stores in the US, so the Sony must be seling the PS3 to them at 259?? send that price with a $30 bucks more for shippment, and 15% plus taxes to cross the border, and then add 15% plus taxes to the consumer, and a margin of 18% represent the earnig of the stores, that makes it a 410 dollars PS3, and im exagerating the numbers here.

I'm wondering if it costs more to ship it to a country where the product doesn't sell as well? Last time I checked, it wasn't too hard to buy things over the boarder. Maybe you could buy the new ps3 off a website and just have it shipped to Mexico? I also doubt the world is in an economic crisis because of people's feelings.

You know that that the PS3 is not produced in the USA, right? The NAFTA works for free trade between US, Canada, and Mexico not Mexico and Asia.

Why would they worry about a country where they probably won't sell very many units? It's a buisness not a chairity.

STurn21

What does low price has to do with charity?? Im not asking to give the PS3 for free.

And having that price tag its not going to make a big sales for PS3 in Mexico

In south america it costs $800.

Lobo_das_Neves
You are just about right on the price. My cousin's friend bought a PS3 with Killzone 2 in Peru, believe it or not two burglers came into his house and stole his PS3 and a few other things while he was out. Hate to say it but Its pretty common to happen stuff like that in that country...

thats why things are expensive, little is taxed, so there is little money to put back in the community. When you buy a car you probably dont even need to insure it. If you crash into somebody and you can keep going, thats fine by them. if you total the others guys car, keep going. If both cars are trashed then thats the end of the story, no one will get involved

Hold on a sec. Forget trade agreements, currency exchange, taxes, global economic crisis, etc. You just bought a turbo luxury sports sedan which requires premium octane that you've already established is mucho expensivo down there and you're complaining about the price of a PS3? :| For real?!

You could always ask a friend or family member in the US, or someone you know who will be visiting the US to pick one up for you. Especially if you live near the border I'm sure you could find someone to get one for you for the 299 price tag.

Can't say I feel bad for you. I live in a cheap part of the US and I also pay about 30% of my income for income tax. I then have 7% sales tax on anything I buy. I also have to pay that on any car I buy, as well as tabs yearly (also rated on how much my car is worth). I also have property tax, tax on using a phone (for local, state, federal, and other taxes). THey are everywhere man...breaks the bank for everybody nomatter what country you live in.

Yep. Federal tax, state tax, local tax, property tax, sales tax. I especially like the privelage-for-working-in-our-city tax.

Only way you get a free ride in the US is if you dont have a job, amibition, and knowledge or anything. Then our state and federal systems just give you free food, housing, medical, and money :) . So yea...why do I have a job again?!? *walks out*

[QUOTE="TJSAGE"][QUOTE="Solid_Cipher"] thats why things are expensive, little is taxed, so there is little money to put back in the community. When you buy a car you probably dont even need to insure it. If you crash into somebody and you can keep going, thats fine by them. if you total the others guys car, keep going. If both cars are trashed then thats the end of the story, no one will get involved

You definitely got the down side of the system right, but all system has down sides and up sides. I'm from South America, Brasil to be more exact . Let me try to think on the ups and down: Ups, free School, parking, hospital, some medication, and school supplies is also free. The downs could also be the ups to some, like you state, insurance is not obligatory, and most people do not have it, I would assume only the very wealth bother to get insurance. Even know there is lots of taxes, there is many ways to not pay a lot of them, and there is not much enforcement when they are not payed. Many people in Brasil is self employed, and if you are self employed, you pay no taxes at all no matter your income (of course, as long as you keep your bank accounts with average amount of money). In US everything seems to be good, except that you gotta pay a lot for schools, a lot for hospital, and medication, a lot for housing (thats also cheap in Brasil), parking petty much everywhere you gotta pay for (this is not that bad but still). The worst thing, and one of most important thing there is in a persons life would be the health system in US, even know it costs about 2000 or so depending on the time you flight, on a two way ticket, is cheaper for me to go to Brasil, and do some teeth work, (that could cost a few 1000's in US). Thats how absorb pricey health care in US is, image if I had to get a surgery, that would be a easy choice to just fly back to Brasil, and have it there for free. Oh, and teeth work is not free in Brasil, but is like 1000's of % less. So sure you can have technology, and a comfort and all that better then in Brasil, but is not without a cost. As long as you are healthy, US is millions of times better, but if you fall ill, you better be preparer for a doozy.

Its not as much as they dont care as there is something clogging up the system. No company would sell stuff in some country for more cash then in another without a solid reason i think...

Anyways, prices aint the only problem. Half of the world doesent have acces to stuff like Xbox Live Market and PS Store, in europe probably a quarter of the PS3 users are using accounts registered to another country just so they can download the demos

there are a lot of places where the PS3 sells for a higher price than in the States... it is what it is...
