If that is in fact your p.o.v. than you should have explained it that way instead of leaving it up to our understanding of your two posts crying about how you're "not getting one now, boo hoo, see you all in a year or so, boo hoo". Just pick up the 60GB for $500 and take advantages of the offers. It's a better deal than a straight 80GB @ $500 anyway.

how is a 60 gb at 500 with no rumble controller and no game better than an 80 gig WITH A GAME AND A RUMBLE CONTROLLER for the same price?

Update: This has been semi-contradicted once again, with Sony now saying that they have enough stock to sell 60GB consoles for the next few months, but it doesn't sound like they'll be making any more after that. According to Karraker, "We won't be making any further announcements regarding our PS3 model hardware strategy in North America until the 60GB model is exhausted and market conditions are evaluated."

Sony is being smart that is what they are doing. there gonna empty the shelves in north america and then restock them with the 80 gig version. sort of like what apple did with the ipods( start off witha 20 gig at 299 then release the 40 3 months later for the sameprice) people in europe should not be complaining at all i bought a ps3 just recently and i would of loved to get 2 controllers and 2games with it out of the box. and if your gonna **** on how it costs you more u shouldentbecause you have a higher currency its always been liek that. and no offence the market is not based inpal regions its based in North america and japan soo stop with the ****ing your getting a good deal

The price drop was to spike the sales of existing models currently in stores. That strategy worked since PS3s are flying off the shelves. Some of you fail to forget that it cost money to make a PS3 and Sony was already losing money. There move to stop making 60GB models doesn't surprise me.

It is only $100 extra dollars with an 20GB increase. What is all the fuss about?

Well said. And the next time you hear someone say, "They are discontiuing the 60GB and we'll be stuck with the $600 80GB." Ask yourself how many 60GB PS3 they have in the channel now (not couting the 3.7 MIL already sold)? 1 MIL? 1.5 MIL? 2.0 MIL? 2.5 MIL? And how long do you think those will last? I think more than 30 days. Don't you?

Does the 80GB have a Rumble Axis? I saw the red PS button controller. But I didn't think that was anything.

Hey goofs -

As soon as the 60 gig is out, the 80 gig will drop to $499. It's simple business. They can't say that they're going to do it becuase people won't buy the 60 gig one, so they play dumb until it runs out. If it goes too quickly, there may be a short period before the announcement. BUT, in the end, and definitely by the holiday -- there will be a $499 or $479 PS3.

Guaranteed....

My guess and it's just a guess is that they are going to sell the 80gb + bundled game for $599 until all the 60gb units are gone and eventually drop the 80gb with no game to $499 around Christmas. My logic is that the 80gb drives are getting cheaper and you can't really just come out with a 80gb unit, nobody would buy the 60gb.EmperorSupreme

I'm thinking the same thing, people need to relax and just wait and see how this plays out. IMO the 60GB "price cut" is actually a clearance sale and when the stock runs dry the 80GB price will be lowered at least $100 without any bundle deals, also this time around the price cut will be in Europe as well.
