I see that the white house is already in damage control mode, sending Skeletor's wife (Conway) and some of the other nincompoops to all the TV news programs to start trying to frame Comey as incompetent.

Comey, being a professional, I suspect won't revel too many details, but whatever Comey says, we know something for sure - Trump and his admin are still the focus of 4 congressional investigations and one FBI criminal investigation!

Prepare for another approval rating drop for Orange Foolius!

It doesn't matter. Trumpkin fans will just deny whatever he says.

Hell....you still have people saying the FBI, CIA, HLS, and NSA are all lying in their December and March reports. Even after classified documents were leaked showing that they have detailed proof. It's all a "media narrative".

For god sakes.

NSA didn't give reports, the FBI gave a report about a phishing attack that was hilariously unbelievable. NSA and NGA haven't stated much.

You mis-understood the situation even if that leaked report didn't come out.

The Senate hearing didn't give detailed reports because they was classified. The conclusion of all of these agencies was publicly stated during that hearing. The conclusion being, Russia was behind the election interference without a shadow of a doubt.

Now without the NSA leak, you were either you are saying the entire IC was wrong, or they are lying simply because you didn't see their classified reports.

The entire IC did not agree about WMDs, if that is what you are referring to. There was actually pretty big dissenting reports.

Also, the hearing portion that talked about Russian trolling is proven by multiple studies.

Comey will claim that Trump was too stupid to understand what he was asking him to do.

BUT he'll be more political about it

This whole Comey scenario is all so confusing to me. Do they somehow still think Comey has Trump on obstruction of justice?

Do liberals think he's going to go on stand and say "Yea, Trump tried to bribe me. I know it's a federal crime to not report it when it happened, so I hope you guys will just ignore it to bring down Trump"?

Do liberals think saying "I hope you can look past this" is the same thing as obstruction of justice? Obstruction of justice requires proof that Trump actually did something to obstruct justice. Saying something to Comey about an investigation isn't obstructing justice. Threatening Comey might be a better case, but there were no threats.

Great way to milk ratings from people who don't understand law I suppose

I'd keep expectations in check as Comey's testimony could very well help Trump just as much as it could hurt him, and man alive is this administration going to use every angle and exploit every syllable to their advantage. What's most reassuring to me is that Trump's apparently going to be tweeting live alongside his testimony if he feels the need to defend himself. He being as rash and impulsive as he is and having proven that he doesn't consider the consequences before he speaks (which has already come back to bite him), this holds immense potential to damage or implicate him further.

His advisers and lawyers must be going bonkers over Trump's insistence to get a word in immediately, and I can't imagine people around him aren't informing him of the foolishness of this decision. Any lawyer worth their salt understands that such testimony given shouldn't be addressed/countered until it's given in full. But Trump's gonna Trump. If Comey testifies to something and Trump can't restrain himself from making an immediate statement of defense on that point, any subsequent testimony from Comey is going to have Trump jumping through hoops to maintain his initial narrative and he could very easily end up contradicting himself or risk putting himself into a corner where he doesn't wish to be. To tweet rebuttals during testimony is absolute insanity as it removes the chance to calculate and consider a response in context of the whole picture, and Trump is a bozo beyond hope if he views this in any way prudent.

This is going to be very interesting to watch.

An important thing to remember regarding Trump's twitter:

"The president is president of the United States," Spicer said, "so they are considered official statements by the president of the United States."

Are you aware that the people who actually follow Trump's twitter and voted for him, usually agrees with what he has to say on twitter too?

It's almost as if you're angry that Trump's shares his perspective on things. Weird perspective to have.

Yes, I'm aware. If anything I'm a bit befuddled at Trump's proclivity to use Twitter in a manner that can sabotage his own self-interests, which he could end up doing if he tweets during this testimony. It could backfire on him, and what he says can then be held against him. Nobody thinking straight would choose to defend themselves during a testimony questioning someone else of their actions. Afterwards, sure. But during?? Loony bin behavior.

I'm not angry at all and understand his supporters love his tweets. It's actually entertaining to me that he does so, and I hope he doesn't stop. Part of me is beginning to believe Twitter will end up being his downfall if he's not careful.

Are here for a different perspective from the Wall Street Journal, since you know, the New York Times isn't the only newspaper that writes editorials:

The ‘Independent’ Mr. Comey

The Senate Intelligence Committee released James Comey’s prepared testimony a day early on Wednesday, and it looks like a test of whether Washington can apprehend reality except as another Watergate. Perhaps the defrocked FBI director has a bombshell still to drop. But far from documenting an abuse of power by President Trump, his prepared statement reveals Mr. Comey’s misunderstanding of law enforcement in a democracy.

Mr. Comey’s seven-page narrative recounts his nine encounters with the President-elect and then President, including an appearance at Trump Tower, a one-on-one White House dinner and phone calls. He describes how he briefed Mr. Trump on the Russia counterintelligence investigation and what he calls multiple attempts to “create some sort of patronage relationship.”

But at worst Mr. Comey’s account of Mr. Trump reveals a willful and naive narcissist who believes he can charm or subtly intimidate the FBI director but has no idea how Washington works. This is not new information.

When you’re dining alone in the Green Room with an operator like Mr. Comey—calculating, self-protective, one of the more skilled political knife-fighters of modern times—there are better approaches than asserting “I need loyalty, I expect loyalty.” Of course the righteous director was going to “memorialize” (his word) these conversations as political insurance.

Mr. Trump’s ham-handed demand for loyalty doesn’t seem to extend beyond the events of 2016, however. In Mr. Comey’s telling, the President is preoccupied with getting credit for the election results and resentful that the political class is delegitimizing his victory with “the cloud” of Russian interference when he believes he did nothing wrong.

Mr. Comey also confirms that on at least three occasions he told Mr. Trump that he was not a personal target of the Russia probe. But Mr. Comey wouldn’t make a public statement to the same effect, “most importantly because it would create a duty to correct” if Mr. Trump were implicated. This is odd because the real obligation is to keep quiet until an investigation is complete.

More interesting is that Mr. Trump’s frustration at Mr. Comey’s refusal raises the possibility that the source of Mr. Trump’s self-destructive behavior isn’t a coverup or a bid to obstruct the investigation. The source could simply be Mr. Trump’s wounded pride.

The most troubling part of Mr. Comey’s statement is his belief in what he calls “the FBI’s traditionally independent status in the executive branch,” which he invokes more than once. Independent? This is a false and dangerous view of law enforcement in the American system.

Mr. Comey is describing an FBI director who essentially answers to no one. But the police powers of the government are awesome and often abused, and the only way to prevent or correct abuses is to report to elected officials who are accountable to voters. A director must resist intervention to obstruct an investigation, but he and the agency must be politically accountable or risk becoming the FBI of J. Edgar Hoover.

Mr. Comey says Mr. Trump strongly suggested in February that he close the Michael Flynn file, but after conferring with his “FBI senior leadership” he decided not to relay the conversation to Attorney General Jeff Sessions or any other Justice Department superior. If he thought he was being unduly pressured he had a legal obligation to report, and in our view to resign, but he says he didn’t because “we expected” that Mr. Sessions would recuse himself from Russia involvement.

Well, how did he know? Mr. Sessions didn’t recuse himself until two weeks later. Mr. Comey also didn’t tell the acting Deputy AG, who at the time was a U.S. attorney whom Mr. Comey dismisses as someone “who would also not be long in the role.”

This remarkable presumptuousness is the Comey mindset that was on display last year. He broke Justice Department protocol to absolve Hillary Clinton’s mishandling of classified material, without the involvement of Justice prosecutors or even telling then Attorney General Loretta Lynch. Mr. Comey’s disregard for the chain of legal command is why Mr. Trump was right to fire him, whatever his reasons.

Also on Wednesday two leaders of the intelligence community told the Senate Wednesday that they had not been pressured to cover up anything. “I have never been pressured—I have never felt pressured—to intervene or interfere in any way with shaping intelligence in a political way or in relation to an ongoing investigation,” said Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats. National Security Agency Director Mike Rogers added that he never been asked “to do anything I believe to be illegal, immoral, unethical or inappropriate.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Trump announced that he is nominating respected Justice Department veteran Christopher Wray as the next FBI director. Let’s hope Mr. Wray has a better understanding of the FBI’s role under the Constitution than Mr. Comey does.

Whatever happens, I hope that this ends the debate... one way or another.

If Trump is proven to be guilty in the end, trying to obstruct justice? What will this entail for the GOP in the long run?

The debate never ends when liberals are wrong. They just deflect and move onto something else. The fact you even have to ask if this was an obstruction of justice just goes to show you haven't spent more than 10 seconds researching the issue (or looking beyond CNN).

You have the ability of critical thought. You can actually go look up the definition of "obstruction of justice". Apply some critical thinking, a helping hand of common sense, and the answer becomes obvious.

But hey, when most of the news you read is fake every day (and you're not privileged with the ability to apply discerning skepticism), I'd be as confused as you too.

I have a simple question id like you to answer.

Are you entirely unaware of our FBI, DEA, ATF, NSA, DHS (which is homeland security, not HLS)CIA's history of lying? Or do you think its all "conspiracy" even though much of this information has been declassified and confirmed?

@KHAndAnime: And lol, I dont think you the guy who made a birther thread in 2016 is in any position to make such claims as you did.

Classic thread. KHAndAnime's paranoid delusional fantasies are always hilarious.

Ufff, Comey commenting on Trump's "nature".

Come on Warner, move it along.

So far, Trump is coming out smelling like roses, and the witch hunt is going down in flames.

I wonder if liberals will now say Comey is in the pocket of the Russians?

"Earlier, Comey dropped a non-Trump related revelation, telling Sen. Burr that one of the reasons he decided to give a press conference on the Hillary Clinton e-mail server investigation last year was that then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch directed him to call the probe a "matter" and not an "investigation."

And people talk about Repubs lol

They'll ignore it.

lmao, are you people watching the same hearing I am or are you just trolling for fun? Comey straight up said he documented all this stuff to protect himself and the FBI because he thinks Trump is capable of lying.

And this juicy bit

My common sense told me that what was going on is, either he thought or someone told him, ‘you’ve already asked Comey to stay, and you didn’t get anything for it.’ And the dinner was an attempt to build loyalty...

What the president whispered in my ear was, I really look forward to working with you...

I’m sitting there thinking, three times we’ve already talked about me staying. My common sense told me, he’s looking to get something in exchange...

Risch clearly is better than Burr. At least regarding questioning and presentation.

You're right. Lets impeach him for....?

He did nothing wrong and wasn't under investigation.

@Chutebox: Where did I say he will get impeached or Trump did something illegal? There's a pretty big gap in between Trump "coming out smelling like roses" and him doing something illegal. Besides, this is the only the beginning and the special counsel investigation will get a long time so you better get used to it.

Ufff nice one by Rubio, why was the fact that Trump wasn't under investigation the only thing that wasn't leak?

Boom!
