Edit: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/10/24/clinton-campaign-dnc-helped-fund-research-that-led-to-salacious-trump-dossier-report-says.html Fox is now reporting as well.

The Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee helped fund research that resulted in a now-famous dossier containing allegations about President Trump’s connections to Russia and possible coordination between his campaign and the Kremlin, people familiar with the matter said.

Marc E. Elias, a lawyer representing the Clinton campaign and the DNC, retained Fusion GPS, a Washington firm, to conduct the research.

After that, Fusion GPS hired dossier author Christopher Steele, a former British intelligence officer with ties to the FBI and the U.S. intelligence community, according to those people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Elias and his law firm, Perkins Coie, retained the firm in April 2016 on behalf of the Clinton campaign and the DNC. Before that agreement, Fusion GPS’s research into Trump was funded by a still unknown Republican client during the GOP primary.

The Clinton campaign and the DNC, through the law firm, continued to fund Fusion GPS’s research through the end of October 2016, days before Election Day.

Why is this big news? I figured it was assumed, as it sort of sounds like something almost every politician would do if they had a) The money and b) The opportunity.

Jesus, the plot thickens again. Though, this doesn't really do anything to discredit the dossier.

And I do want to point this part out for those who don't make it to the end of the article:

Fusion GPS’s work researching Trump began during the Republican presidential primaries, when the GOP donor paid for the firm to investigate the real estate tycoon’s background.

Fusion GPS did not start off looking at Trump’s Russia ties, but quickly realized that those relationships were extensive, according to the people familiar with the matter.

When the Republican donor stopped paying for the research, Elias, acting on behalf of the Clinton campaign and the DNC, agreed to pay for the work to continue.

They're going over it on multiple news channels right now. A lot of it was the Podestas.

This shit is going to be all over. No thread backfire, this story is about to explode.

Manafort used Podesta's firm to lobby on behalf of the Russian government at Clintons State Dept.

The anti-Clinton crowd lost all credibility after Pizzagate.

This seems like nothing significant.

Hope this means we can stop hearing about Russia finally. They hacked the U.S., bought ads on Facebook, etc. It probably happens everyday, and it'll for sure happen again.

Everyone in this thread continuously calls the Washingtonpost 'leftist'...so are or aren't they? And again, all this is saying is the dossier presented by an English operative was funded by the DNC.

The FBI has already corroborated many parts of the dossier at this point so this doesn't really tell us anything. All it does is raise a flag as to funding, not it's actual contents (Ignoring that the dossier is small beans with regards to Mueller's on going investigation).

Okay, fair, but how does this story blow up? What does this expose? Clinton paid for opposition research. That sort of behavior has been common of politicians since the last king of Rome. Heck if there is a hellenophile about, they will likely argue it goes back farther.

*edit* Crap I just remembered roman kings were elected. So it likely goes back to the first king of Rome.

New York Times and the Guardian already reported on this, so it's hardly news. Opposition research and nothing more, the difference is that this research led down to a deep rabbit-hole.

What We Know and Don't Know About the Trump-Russia Dossier

■ In September 2015, a Washington political research firm, Fusion GPS, paid by a wealthy Republican donor who did not like Mr. Trump, began to compile “opposition research” on him — standard practice in politics.

■ Last June, after evidence of Russian hacking of Democratic targets surfaced, Fusion GPS hired a retired British intelligence officer, Christopher Steele, to investigate Mr. Trump’s ties to Russia.

■ After it became clear that Mr. Trump would be the Republican nominee, Democratic clients who supported Hillary Clinton began to pay Fusion GPS for this same opposition research.

What do We Know About Alleged Links Between Trump and Russia

Last year, a political intelligence firm in Washington, Fusion GPS, hired Steele to investigate Trump’s dealings with Russia. The DNC paid for the work after its initial funder, a wealthy Jeb Bush supporter, dropped out.

Is it illegal?

That was trumps defense when he was caught colluding with Russia right?

This is a non story. The DNC and Clinton campaign help fun opposition research.

Woopdeedo.

The bigger story is manafort running a money laundering scam through Russia for Trump.

Which is what this story is trying to distract.

Oh man the Republicans/Trump just can't seem to do anything right, if their supporters were not so loyal and/or braindead. I mean this is the kind of dirty politics I can understand; one side pays a detective, the detective digs up dirt but realizes his own person is dirtier, the side that hired detective stops paying, detective says "Screw this!" and changes sides.

I love it.

The Clinton campaign is not the Clinton foundation, and the article says (the article you provided) it was both the campaign and the GOP. It also says it started with the GOP. I'm not saying that it doesn't make it suspect, but come on man, read your own shit.

In two weeks we learned Obama’s DOJ blocked the fbi from informing congress about Russian bribery scheme involving uranium one. We learned the fbi actually knew of all wrong doings involving Russia/Uranium One as early as 2009. We learned Clinton’s campaign/Dnc actually paid for the fake dossier on trump. We learned Russian bank lobbied tony podestas(HRCs campaign managers brother) firm to end us sanctions.

The Clinton campaign and the DNC, through the law firm, continued to fund Fusion GPS’s research through the end of October 2016, days before Election Day.

i was recently informed that the wapo is as informative as the national enquirer so #fakenews

So which is it? Trump named three things. This article is about the Clinton Campaign. Which means Trump is wrong (as always).

Investigation was started by Republicans because they did not want Trump to make it to the Primaries. As it gained steam it was then funded by Dems. Nothing groundbreaking here.

When you posted a screen-cap of the headline instead of a link to the article, I knew something was up. Oblermann's point is that Trump constantly bringing up Russia only brings more attention to it, and paying his advisers legal fees only makes him look more suspicious.

I'm guessing you didn't read the article. You just saw people posting this picture on Reddit, didn't you? Here you go:

MSNBC isn't touching this with a 10 foot pole.

Deflection.

I find it funny all these big stories putting DNC in a negative light are broken by the "liberal media". It's as if they aren't really the liberal media, and that was just a shitty talking point.

Then again, I don't expect the award winning conservative media of InfoWars, Breitbart, DailyCaller, TheGateWayPundit, or TheBlaze to really break many big stories. Or really any story at all. Glorified Blogs. At least you still got Fox, but even that isn't exactly stellar.

There is a link from WaPo in the OP.

Also @drunk_pi In two weeks we learned Obama’s DOJ blocked the fbi from informing congress about Russian bribery scheme involving uranium one.

The WaPo link says nothing about CNN being fake news or the Left not talking about Russia anymore.

We learned Clinton’s campaign/Dnc actually paid for the fake dossier on trump. We learned Russian bank lobbied tony podestas(HRCs campaign managers brother) firm to end us sanctions.

There is Information in that Dossier which ended up true. There is nothing illegal about funding the Dossier. Just as the GOP did.

And yet Hillary and the left are still claiming that the reason she lost was because sexism.

Here's an even bigger Megaton, Julian Assange admitted he collaborated with a Trump linked source on getting Hillary's emails.

Am I doing this right? Wasn't sure if it was sensational enough.

I believe neither of those things were huge factors.
