People are going to hate me for this, but I don't entirely disagree. Calling people who died in war losers is shitty, but people who go and get killed in a foreign land for a country that doesn't care about them, and continually neglects the soldiers who actually do live are kind of suckers.
You'll never see me criticizing Trump for being a draft dodger. However when people pretend that Trump is a tough guy/hard man I will bring it up to point out how stupid they sound.
It's always fun finding out that the people saluting you to your face are snickering behind your back, huh?
I'm not really laughing at them, I just think people got taken in by a salesman (Uncle Sam in this case) who doesn't really intend to hold up his end of the bargain a fair amount of the time.
Most of the veterans I know went in for the GI Bill. Having your college tuition paid for a short time in the military isn't a bad deal if you're broke with no real future ahead of you. Not to mention a majority of folks don't actually see combat while in the military.
Plus there are all the skills you learn. Go in a high-school grad, come out a mechanic, experienced clerical worker (lord knows they love their paperwork in the military), tech support, pilot, gain some leadership skills, or whatever. The military has pretty much every civilian role to fill, plus the combat roles.
I also don't mind if Trump (or anyone)is a draft dodger until he starts talking shit about veterans like he does. Then he is just out of line. Lord knows the US hasn't fought a war worth fighting since WWII, so I don't think little of anyone not wanting to fight, but you have to respect the military for doing their job.
