Best - Beckett - Simply clutch. Big game pitcher in the reg season and most importantly in the playoffs

Overrated - Peavy. He is without a doubt the most overrated pitcher. This guy pitches in the worst hitting division in the last decade, and most importantly simply chokes in any big games. Counting the one game playoff against Colorado last year in 16 innings pitched he has given up 19 EARNED RUNS and 29 hits in his 3 postseason games. That is an ERA over 10. The guy is a good regular season pitcher but simply folds when it counts. Hell he even stunk it up in the World Baseball Classic

Underated - Bedard. When healthy may very well have the best stuff in the game

He's a great pitcher, but put that Sox team behind Halladay or Santana and I think they'd put up better numbers.

Beckett overrated and Wakefield underrated WTF Wakefield sucksNetYankEagle
Wakefield is underrated because despite the number of people who **** on him, he's a solid #3 or 4 pitcher who's going to get you some W's. He's not an ace by any means, but I think he deserves some credit.

Joba isn't either overrated nor underrated.

Zito has been receiving his fair share of criticism - he isn't the same as he has been in his A's days, obviously, and I think that he's not necessarily overrated anymore.

best - Josh Beckett 20 wins with an ERA below 3.50 and 4-0 in the play offs last year.

overrated - Daisuke Matsuzaka not nearly as good as people said he was gonna be. He doesn't have a gyroball. And is not worth the large amount of money the red sox are paying him.

underrated - Chien Ming Wang. Most winningist pitcher in the mlb for the last three years. Already 3-0 with a 1.28 ERA. Pitched a 2 hitter complete game against the red sox 2 nights ago. Doesn't cost the yankees that much. Gets alot of ground ball outs for pitch efficiency and rests the bullpen. Gets little to no media attention or publicity.

I definitely agree with your comment regarding Zito. He's pretty much labeled a bust after signing that 126 mil deal and performing so poorly (and in an inferior league, weak hitting division, and a pitcher's park might I add), so I wouldn't say that Zito is overrated anymore either.

Back to topic:

Best: Beckett (can't argue w/amazing reg season and postseason that he's had) Peavy (regular season stud) Chien Ming Wang

Overrated: Fausto Carmona and CC Sabathia (last year was a fluke for both. They are quality pitchers, but not Cy Young contenders. I'd be surprised if either ever repeated last year's performance)

Underrated: Chien Ming Wang (ace despite performing poorly under pressure. If he can get his act together in Oct he'll be amazing) Dan Haren, Brandon Webb (not enough respect for this guy, he's been dominant the past few years)

Yep Wang is probably one of the most valuable players the Yankees have, yet he's making only 4 million dollars this year. (much less than the average Yankee makes) That's one of the best bargains in the game, especially considering that guys like Barry Zito are making 14.5 mil a year.

Wakefield is by far the most underrated pitcher. He is paid 4 mil a year and has a lifetime contract with the Sox. You find me a Starter whos paid 4 mil a year for what he does/has done. Timmy can come in for you out of the pen if you need him to and hes a great solid 15 wins every year.

I don't think wang is really under rated. He is the Yankees Ace. He is gonna be the key to the Yankees doing well this season. I don't see how that can be considered underrated.

No, he's a useful cog on the pitching staff, but by the looks of his ERA, hes far from underrated. 2004 - 4.87, 2005 - 4.15, 2006 - 4.63, 2007 - 4.76

But Wakefield isn't there to be an ace with a microscopic ERA and 20+ wins a season. He's paid to be a solid pitcher on the back end of the rotation who will go 12-10 or 15-12 year-in, year-out. You expect Wakefield to stay competitive and maybe even steal a couple of wins, something you rarely get in other end of the rotation pitchers around the league.

I know, that what makes him a useful pitcher, but far from underrated.

Justin Verlander, how he did not even really get considered for the Cy Young award last year I dont understand. ROY 2 years ago, last year he pitched a no hitter and put up a great record with a good ERA. This year he is off to a bad start but the whole team is. He will get it going.

Dice-K is definately not over rated, at least it can't be determined yet. I think you have to give the guy at least 1 year to adjust to a new environment. He's showing early signs of being 1 of the best pitchers in 08

I never hear Wang's name come up in discussions regarding the best pitchers in baseball. He won 19 games last year and has never gotten credit for being an ace. (People have been saying for a long time that the Yankees need a true ace, but they already have one in Wang.)

best - Josh Beckett 20 wins with an ERA below 3.50 and 4-0 in the play offs last year.

overrated - Daisuke Matsuzaka not nearly as good as people said he was gonna be.

Yep Wang is probably one of the most valuable players the Yankees have, yet he's making only 4 million dollars this year. (much less than the average Yankee makes) That's one of the best bargains in the game, especially considering that guys like Barry Zito are making 14.5 mil a year.

I don't think wang is really under rated. He is the Yankees Ace. He is gonna be the key to the Yankees doing well this season. I don't see how that can be considered underrated.

I never hear Wang's name come up in discussions regarding the best pitchers in baseball. He won 19 games last year and has never gotten credit for being an ace. (People have been saying for a long time that the Yankees need a true ace, but they already have one in Wang.)

Um, didn't wang come in second to Santana for the Cy Young? That to me is being thought oif as one of the best.

No, Beckett did.

No, it was a reference to 2006. Santana won and Wang came in 2nd: http://www.baseball-reference.com/awards/awards_2006.shtml

You expect Wakefield to stay competitive and maybe even steal a couple of wins, something you rarely get in other end of the rotation pitchers around the league.

he gets those wins because cuz there is something called run support

Because every pitcher in the MLB hasn't given up a badly timed hit.

So? he does what he has to do. His ERA is high because he is a streaky pitcher. As it is with all the Knuckleballers. Alot of things factor into how that pitch does, and his whole career is based around that pitch. Weather being the main factor and what stadium it is. Wind speed and direction/ dome or no dome. etc etc. You may not like him but i would want him on my club then the majority of pitchers.

I dont know what your talkin about, closers arent overrated. I would compare them to a kicker in football. When its clutch time you need one to get the win. You cant tell me Papelbon, k-Rod, Putz, Jenks, Nathan......are all overrated
