no one in the south cares about osu/mich... and you are all wrong, the greatest rivalry in college will always be army/navy
Both are overrated, but I'll take Michigan because I want to see my Trojans destroy them again in the Rose Bowl
(assuming all the chips fall into place: SC and Oregon win out, Oregon gets into the Championship etc.)

Booty is, that's about it. They've had an amazing amount of injuries and the PAC 10 is one of, if not the strongest conference this year.
What does it matter? Either team is going to get killed by the PAC 10 in the Rose Bowl. But I agree with Steelers_86, the best rivalry is Army/Navy. Have some respect for the men in uniform!
My personal favorite rivalry is UCLA/USC. Nice to see it renewed again last season in football.
Auburn/Alabama >>>> any other rivalry. I say Duke/UNC basketball is a close 2.geaux321I have to agree with you on that one, though on the opposite side, obviously.

I don't think it's just Booty. Everyone underperformed in that team. I am not saying Big-10 teams can beat teams from PAC-10 because I honestly don't think Big-Ten teams these days can keep up with the speed, but USC is one of the most overrated teams this year and only rivaled by Ohio State.
Auburn Alabama does not = Michigan OSU. Maybe to you, but to the rest of the country UM OSU is bigger. This has been seen through polls for years. Even in an off year people love this rivalry... not to say Auburn Alabama isn't good though, it's an awesome rivalry too, but it's not on the same level for most people, and that's fact, numbers don't lie.ScoopyMcScoop
I'm sorry, I can't take rivalries serious when they aren't in the same state, it's at a different level. The media is just on the side of Ohio St. and Michigan which is why most people tend to think it's the best rivalry.

That's true. Natural geographic rivalries mean more. But to be fair, Ann Arbor and Columbus are only 200 miles apart. That's much closer than my favorite inter-state rivalry, Dodgers/Giants.[QUOTE="skullkrusher13"][QUOTE="dkhw"][QUOTE="skullkrusher13"]Both are overrated, but I'll take Michigan because I want to see my Trojans destroy them again in the Rose Bowl

Well if OSU wins, and USC wins out. They very well could meet in the Rose Bowl.

Definately greatest rivalry in college football even when both or one is up to their usual standards. And the pac 10 is about as overrated this year as the big ten.

Like I said before and over and over again, the MEDIA overhypes it beyond belief. What does everyone do when the game is over? Go back to their respective states and cheer on the Pistons/Cavs, Lions/Browns/Bengals, etc. What do people in Alabama do? Go home and wait for next year's game because we live in the same state and have no pro sports teams. No matter what time of the year the talk is on the Iron Bowl. I will, and that's how rivalries should be. Grade school was crazy after this game.
Michigan will win, and it is the best rivalry bar none. Screw Bama/Auburn they usually aren't playing for anything anyway, people up north don't care or hear about that game to any signicance. U-M/OSU almost ALWAYSmeans a big 10 title or national significance.
Pac 10 is having a good year this year, can't say much other than must be nice for USC to get to play their bowl games at home most time. What an advantage.

So because they aren't paying for a share of the SEC West title means the game isn't important? It wouldn't matter if the teams are 0-whatever, everyone would still be crazy. It isn't a good year unless you beat Alabama, right now Auburn is 7-4, and if they lost to Alabama it will become a bad year. This game is more about bragging rights for a year. And your mentality proves to me why Auburn/Alabama is better.

I don't doubt it's a heated rivalry, I just prefer and have more experience with this one.
MICHIGAN!!! GO BLUE!! BEAT THE BUCKEYES!!! I am a HUGE michigan fan, about an hour away from the big house! I REALLY want michigan to beat them this year, Ohio state has been winning to much the past few years but that'll change....Michigan still leads the all time record of this rivalry...and the most wins in history.
Sorry but this IS the biggest rivalry in the country, majority of people says so. I know if you don't live here it's not so special but is really has an unmatched history.
The reason this rivalry is so good is because both of these schools have VERYstrong football programs for the past 100 years, and they usually play this game to deside who isgoing to the national championship from the big ten (just not this year)....so that alwaysleads to why this game is always so big.

Yes because the Civil War has everything to do wtih college football. :roll:osu/mich is just another confrence rivalry... if you arent from the region, then you really dont care. and as for it always meaning a big 10 title, thatjust speaks about how weak the confrence is, and also emphasizes the need for a conference title game.

I do. I'm 200 years old.
I love how this guy speaks like his opinion is fact, "it's in state, we have to deal with each other every day at work after the game" is the kind of thing he's saying, yet he completely disregards the real facts, that being the constant polls taken that come up with UM v OSU being the biggest overall rivalry EVERY YEAR. You need to either eat your crow and stop spouting or recognize that YOU are the one claiming the Iron Bowl is the best based on facts that are actually opinions. I'll take national polls every year as facts long before your random freaking gamespot/gamefaqs post buddy.ScoopyMcScoop
Rivals.com did a poll recently, and the Iron Bowl came out on top. And when I google greatest college football rivalry, I see mixed reviews. No poll is consistently taking one rivalry over another. There are your facts.

Rivals.com... that is your source? How about I go and use a source that nobody has probably heard of until the moment they read my post too... www.peoplesearchingtoodesperatelytoofindinfotosupporttheirbiasedviews.com
Try that place big guy. Only polls that actually matter, you know, ones from world renowned (or at least nationally renowned) sources like espn and the like matter to me... not some silly site called rivals.com... give me a break, you're reaching if you think I'm going to pay attention to rivals.com before a place like espn buddy. Face it, when you look at polls where the most people show up to vote, so to say, you're wrong, plain and simple. This isn't even debatable.
^lmao. Rivals.com is the best site when it come to college football and epsecially recruiting. What does ESPN give you? Polls that the AP gives you? Gee thanks we can find those everywhere. You really wanna listen to people like Lou Holtz and Mark May? Get real dude. Why don't you go look at Rivals.com top HS players for the last 5 or 6 years, tell me if there any good. Rivals.com is one of the best dude, don't talk if you don't know. Espurs117
God, Rivals suck, I rather go to Scouts.com or even ESPN.com. Anyway, all these talk of rivarlies is stupid, because it's all opinions anyways. Also, who said majority rules anways.
Do you have espn insider? I'm willing to bet you don't... and if you do, you must not know how to use it. I can't take a site seriously that's setup with what looks like as little a budget as that one has. I looked all over that site and actually did investigate it... which I'm willing to bet you haven't done with espn insider's many up-and-coming athlete's features... If you want to debate this, fine and dandy, but it's all about source recognition here... and what site do you think gets the most traffic? Again, my points speak for themselves. ESPN gets way more hits than rivals.com, and therefore is going to give a better sample for a question such as "best rivalry ever." No amount of silly stories about two colleges being retarded and not playing for 20 years over stupid reasons changes this... Auburn and Alabama is great, but Michigan and OSU has, and for the foreseeable future will continue to mean much more to a wider range of people... When was the last time Auburn v Alabama was a big deal in the BCS bowls picture? Not as recently or as often as OSU Michigan, and you know it.ScoopyMcScoop
The reason the Iron Bowl hasn't been a big deal in the BCS is because the SEC is a much much stronger conference than your Big 10 or is it 11? LSU has been one of the best teams this decade and it usually has come down to the LSU-Auburn game to decide the SEC West. Mind you we actually have a conference game that clearly determines who is the best in the conference. The only reason that the Michigan-OSU game has implications is because there are no other challengers in the Big 10, whereas the SEC the talent level is much more on the same level.
Just because you throw ESPN out there really makes me back down, you're talking about a place where one of the analysts is Lou Holtz, big credibility right there. The only reason I mentioned rivals.com was because I thought you knew about college football, but I guess I was wrong, because most people I know, know about that site and go there for the information they give, not only on recruits, but on the team they follow. And if you want a name, Sports Illustrated (I hope you've heard of them) ranked the Iron Bowl as the number 2 rivalry out of any sport (behind Red Sox-Yankees). So there is your big name.
As for them not playing for40 years, well you wouldn't understand because they couldn't agree on a neutral site to play the game, if that's not hatred, I don't know what is.

SEC is a stronger conference right now and Big 10 is a weaker conference, but Big 10 will get better as Penn State, Illinois, Wisconsin all improve.
Michigan vs.Ohio Stateis greater than any other rivalry in college football, to millions of people andto the top sports analysts in the country. These two schoolshave one of thelongest histories of playing each other, theywant to beat each other more than anything I've ever seen. The fans also play a huge role in this rivalry by supporting their teams with such emotion and they think about this game all year long.
Sure there's other great rivalries in NCAA football, but you can't put anyone next to or above Michigan vs. Ohio State simply b/c of how good these two schools football programs are. And as state before, this game usually decides who's going to the national championship or the rosebowl for the big ten crown which can't be said for Auburn and Alabma
