I just can't consider the Cavs as contenders.

Do not get me wrong, the Cavs are playing as good as anybody in the league right now. They just whooped the Celtics (who, for their defense, are in a pretty bad stretch).

And I don't hate LeBron like I used too. I know he's an awesome player, easily top 5 in the NBA and can carry a team all by himself to the Finals. I truly appreciate his athleticism, power and all-around game, although he's not as fearless as Bryant or Jordan or those rare players you give the ball to in the clutch without even thinking.

Still, I simply CAN'T consider them legitimate contenders... I don't know why, maybe because they are the Cavaliers, which means anything but success before James' arrival. Or maybe because they lack a second great player to complement LeBron.

Anybody feels that way too? Or am I alone?

You know what dude. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the Cavs reach the Finals.

And I wouldn't be THAT surprised to see them win the whole thing, well maybe not this year but soon enough, although this year it's possible too, given their performance so far this season.

Just imagine if someone started watching football this year and saw the Lions for 0-16 and in a few years they actually reach the Super Bowl. That someone will still have that first impression of the Lions he had this year when they were winless.

That being said, it's quite possible that in 5 years the Hawks will dominate the league and the Bengals win Super Bowl '11 and the Stanley Cup goes to Long Island next season. Turnarounds happen a lot in sports.

Anyway, this postseason will be interesting if not exciting.

Lebron and co. are going to win at least 2 championships. 1 as a Cavalier. 1 or more as a Knick.

The Cavs are playing unreal this year. The Team D is relentless, Lebron is simply unstopable, and williams, wally, and gibson are sniping the hell outta the 3 pt line.

I would not want to face this team in the playoffs, ESP. if they get home court throughout.

He won't go to the Knicks.

I believe he once hinted how he would love to play in MSG and quickly he wants to bring in more dough. I guess thats when the rumors started and speculation about him coming to the Knicks. Also maybe the Nets since hes close friends with Jay-Z.

Believe me, they are serious contenders. This team actually has some balance this year and can manage to put something together when LeBron isn't in the game. They also have had some injuries with Gibson and now Big Z. Varajeo is actually playing pretty damn good, he is a great role player to have, no matter how goofy he can be.

That does not mean I consider them as contenders. Well it's kinda hard to understand since I can't explain myself properly since English is my third language. But what I meant is that I know the Cavs are a good team and they may get to the Finals but I don't put them in the same "elite" category as the Celtics, Lakers, Hornets or, I hate to admit it, the Spurs.

That's just me.

Until they play the top West Teams (Denver, NO, Utah, Houston, LA) and run through them like they're doing the East, I won't believe. All they can do is play their schedule so only time will tell, but I remember everyone was saying the same thing about the Celtics, and then they went to LA, and then Golden State, and well the rest is history.

Same thing was said about the Pistons a few years ago who won the championship. With a player like LeBron they can win. I think they need just a bit more to win a title, but right now LeBron is playing ridiculous and in big games, if he goes clutch like D-Wade did a few years ago they can win it all.

I don't believe in them either... They're beating up on the scrubs of the East(Besides that win against Boston, very impressive win). And I still won't consider them elite until LeBron develops some resemblance of a competent jump shot.

Well they've beaten denver two or three times this year, they've already beaten Houston as well... cleveland already took at west coast trip and came out 3-0. They get LA here soon too, should be a good one.

The Cavs are being called contenders already and rightfully so, but playoff basketball is different than regular season basketball. Their defense will keep them in pretty much every game, but when a good defensive team sets their mind to it, they can take the Cavs out of their offense (LeBron will win a game or two by himself, but he can't do it every night).

Here we go again. First of all, there is a second superstar on the Cavaliers roster. His name is Zydrunas Ilgauskas and he is posting numbers comparable to Andrew Bynum and any other great center in the league. He is an offensive beast in the post and for a big guy his jumper and hookshots are full of finesse. The man can shoot a three point jumper without having to take his feet off the hardwood. Mo Williams is quickly developing into a premier point guard. He can shoot, defend, and distribute the ball well and that's the piece we were missing. And then there is our bench, which is highly underrated. Varejo has proven to be solid coming off the bench. We're really that good folks.

The Cavaliers won't beat the Lakers if we don't get Big Z back. We really need that Wallace/Gasol and Bynum/Ilgauskas matchup down low and in the paint to stay competitive. It's not just about defending but we need those guys to clear a lane to the basket for LBJ. Obviously Kobe is going to tear up Delonte West. But the other matchups don't look so hot for the Lakers. Fisher is aging and who is Luke Walton defending again? Oh yeah, Lebron James.

I'm not sure what the League would want more. Lakers Celtics renewing a long time historic Rivalry. Or Kobe Lebron As sort of the Passing/Denying of the Torch. We'll see how the refs call it in the Cavs Celtics Eastern Conf. Champion ships :P Of Course I'm thinking too far ahead. Spurs, Magic and Hornets have great chances of playing in the Finals as well.

Oh god seriously? you make me laugh, the pistons are inconsistant, and the cavs have beaten them in the past in the playoffs with a lesser team, try harder.

May I also remind you that the cavs with a lesser team took the celtics to 7 games last season?

And now with a MUCH better team, and tied for the best record in the NBA aren't cap. of playing with these teams?

we also got to the finals 2 years ago, with a much lessor team.

I'd like you to explain why you say the cavs can't compete with those teams, when the cavs are 29-6 and are top 5 statistically in Defense, Offense/Offensive efficency, and rebounding.

I'd really like to hear it.

Are you talking about the Cavs from two years ago that had no business being in the finals? I thought we were talking about the present. LJ is the most athletic player in the league, but he lacks skill in several areas. He has to thunder dunk because whenever he trys a lay-up it winds up back at the FT line as it bricks off the glass. Until LJ is on a team good enough were he is considered the second or third option, no championships for him.

your insane. If he was the 2nd or 3rd option on any team that would be some kind of dream team. He is the best player in the league arguably and he would be the 1st option for any team in the league possibly. And i havent sen him miss very many layups.

Several areas? Maybe his long range jumpshot. And why would LeBron or any player who can dunk like that lay a ball up?

The only way I can see him being the second option is if he was playing next to Kobe. And that's a push. Certainly Kobe in Clutch situations.

ur not alone i dont believe they can do it even with a great talent like Lebron he has nobody else and hes a choker in the clutch moments dont u remember when he missed a layup that coulda beaten the celtics in the playofffs last year? he cant do it alone SpeedForce32

apparently you haven't been watching the games this year, because when lebron doesn't play, the team is still taking it to the other team. He's down on his mins. by a good amount and yet they are still averaging what 103 a game? and defensively only giving up 88 points a game.

Nobody here has a legitimate reason for why they don't consider the cavs title contenders, because they are at or near the top as having the best shot right now.

[QUOTE="TekkenMaster606"]Here we go again. First of all, there is a second superstar on the Cavaliers roster. His name is Zydrunas Ilgauskas silky_smooth8
wow, you're really throwing the term superstar loosely here aren't you

wow, Your'e not kidding. Superstars are KG, Wade, Kobe, LBJ, T-Mac, AI, etc. in no way is Z a superstar....maybe....just maybe a "star"

And i haven't seen him miss very many layups.

The only way I can see him being the second option is if he was playing next to Kobe. And that's a push. Certainly Kobe in Clutch situations.

Here's the deal, Lebron's game is based almost solely on athletism not skill. This means in another five years (without winning a title) when he loses a step on the younger players, he will no longer be able to be "the man". He will still be a very good foward, but until they have someone that demands more attention than him (maybe a future point guard) he will not be able to win a title.

Until they play the top West Teams (Denver, NO, Utah, Houston, LA) and run through them like they're doing the East, I won't believe. All they can do is play their schedule so only time will tell, but I remember everyone was saying the same thing about the Celtics, and then they went to LA, and then Golden State, and well the rest is history. they already smashed Denver, New Orleans, Utah and Houston. they simply haven't played LA yet. Continue not believing. Better yet, I won't believe in the LAKERS until they can beat the Magic or Cavs. How about that. They got swept for the season by Orlando, will probably split the season with the Celtics and better pray they can beat Cleveland at home without 2 starters...because when they go to Cleveland, they're gonna get ran.
