I'm gonna go Melo. Seriously can someone please explain to me what you get outta Melo thatyou can't get from Monte Ellis andKevin Martin. He's a one dimensional player that doesn't play defense, isn't a leader, and has never gone far in the playoffs without agreat leader (Billiups)and good players around him(K-mart, Nene, Billiups, and astellar bench). Alsohe's not a player youcan build a championship winning team around and he gets treated like he'sa top 5 player. I really don't know why these pure scorers that don't play defense and aren't very goodat getting teammates involvedget so much love, yetwell rounded players likeKyle Lowry, Iggy, andGrant Hill never get the props they deserve.I'd take Pierce, Manu, or Iguodala over him honestly.

So let me know who you think is the most overrated player in the NBA.

EDIT: Also I should add that after he left Denver they went from being a subpar defensive team in terms of defensive efficiency to an elite team in terms of defensive effiecency.

Hmm, I don't really think any players get undeserved fame. Maybe some like Joe Johnson are overpaid, but I wouldn't say he is overrated. With Carmelo you get what you pay for; a top player in the NBA offensively. Your kidding yourself if you think he'll be your team leader and/or help you become a better defensive team.

When you ask this question your going to get a lot of opinion. Like the guy above me saying D-Rose, who had a fantastic season this year and is becoming a top tier PG in the NBA. I just don't see how you cansay, a guy that took a team on his back to the top place in the conference, is overrated. If people are calling him the next Jordan then yes you can say that. But he hasn't attracted that much undeserved fame.

Anyway, like I said. When this question is asked your probably going to get mainly opinions fueled through hate. I could say Rondo because I hate Boston, but I know I'm kidding myself.

I thought Chris Bosh got a little too much attention. He is good but not a top ten talent that the media tried to make him seem. He still has room to grow, but I don't think he is going to get to Garnett's prime level. There are plenty of vastly overpaid players though.

Maybe Carlos Boozer? Drose carried the Bulls all the way to the eastern finals. and guys like me expects some help from Boozer. but he's on and off.

lebron-greatest ever? no rings :P

munchlax99
why is everybody so obsessed with these rings. Robert Horry got like 5 rings and Karl Malone has no rings.. or Steve Kerr got 4 rings and John Stockton has no rings. Seriously, would you measure a player's ability by "these rings"? I'm pretty sure you'd take Malone and Stockton on your team over Horry and Kerr. and Lebron is young, he is talented, a 2 time MVP, a great all around player. He's gonna get his ring soon. I guarantee you that.

It's actually worse. Horry has 7 rings... more then Air Jordan, and basically anyone who didn't play with Bill Russell.

Anyone who says Melo is overrated doesn't know basketball. There is literally 1 "expert" (Skip Bayless) that ranks Melo in the top 5. Melo is ranked where he should be -top 10- and enter the top 5 when he shows effort on the defensive side (he does it from time to time against LeBron) and realizes that he doesn't have to shot 25+ times a night. Melo has the offensive versatility that would make a swish army knife jealous. His mid range is dangerous, He is good enough where you have to respect him from behind the arc, he is deceptively quick, and has something the other 2 best SF (LeBron and Durant) do not really have- A Post game. Also since Melo's rookie year he has been the most clutch player in the NBA and has never missed the playoffs in his entire career; next step is to go deeper in the playoffs. That being said... there are a lot of over rated players in the NBA, but it's not their fault. The NBA machine and ESPN tries to say that every team has one "NBA superstar" (I swear I heard J.J Hickson being reffered to as such).

I have to go with Boozer. Bulls fans knew what they were getting on the defensive side but were able to look past that with some offensive productivity. But he's soft around the basket, can't post well, his shot is iffy; all of this and he was considered some sort of top tier player. Beyond that, I'm still waiting on any reasoning for Rose being overrated.

No lol. I realize Melo is much more talented than those two and has a much more versatile offensive arsenal. But still Monte and Martin can score nearly as good as Melo and they're not regarded as elite players. Monte is extremely quick and athletic and Martin is one of the best in the NBA at drawing fouls and hitting the three ball.

I love Kevin Martin's game (he is the most efficient scorer in the NBA) but there is a reason he isn't elite for a reason- he doesn't really take over games and he isn't even the Rockets closer (Kyle Lowery is). I don't watch Monte Ellis often, so...yeah. If you are asking what makes Melo different from other scorers that can score 30+ any giving night that do not really really play defense then the answer is simple and cliche. Melo can bring his game to another level that other just can't. The only problem with Melo is that he isn't consistent and if he is struggling offensively he tends to let that effect his defense. Melo is one the best at rebounding among SFs. Melo is the best offensive rebounding SF in the entire NBA. Melo is the "best" (meaning having a wider arrangement of moves) scorer in the NBA. Melo also has a low basketball IQ and isn't really a leader.

Personally, I think if it's not Lebron, it is between Rose and Durant. Kobe is out of his prime, unless he proves us wrong next season.Honestly, though, in terms of all around efficiency and ability, it's Lebron. But right now, nobody in the NBA has the killer instinct, spirit, nor drive to win games that come even close to what MJ and Kobe had in their respective careers.

I agree and I acknowledged that Melo is more talented and versatile than both of them (and better). He's got a great post game, a great mid range j, can hit threes, is decent at scoring in the paint (not including posting up just driving), and has really became a great rebounder at SF position this season. But to me a top 10 player has to be more complete than just being an offensive threat. Players like CP3, D-Will, Kobe, Wade, LBJ, Howard, Rondo, Iggy, Manu, Pierce, Garnett, Gasol, and even Dirk are all much more well rounded than him.

I am actually a bit impressed with Rose this season. He has worked on his jumper a lot so now he can actually hit from outside from time to time. He can get to the basket whenever he wants more or less and he can finish around the rim (which a lot of guys seem to have problems with). He more or less carried the Bulls for most of the important runs throughout the season and playoffs. He just needs somebody in the post that can actually hit shots (Boozer, what the Fk man!) to help him out. If he can get his to defense to match up to say Jason Kidd's prime years then he will be the top PG for a long time. Right now though, I would still give the edge to Chris Paul by a little bit, but Rose is so close to passing him. It will be fun to watch these two guy's careers play out.

One person's opinion of 'best' = overrated now? I thought overrated was when the general opinion of a person or thing was not warranted. Being as no analyst I've ever heard or read has ever stated D. Rose to be the greatest or best player in the league now (though they have spoken to potential which, much like Pip's statements, aren't exactly 'wrong' seeing as no one has a crystal ball to say they will/will not live up to said potential) I still can't see 'overrated-ness'. The only thing I've seen is he's good en route to being great. If that passes for being overrated, then there's a hell of a lot of overrated players in this league and beyond.

Actually it's not just one person, it's a lot of NBA experts, fans, etc that rank D-Rose far to high currently. This year, the media made Rose out to be the savior of the Bulls, and would bring the Bulls back to there rightful place as NBA champions that has alluded them since Air Jordan retired. That is what makes him overrated but it certainly wasn't his fault. And yes, there are a lot of over rated players in the league.

probably durant, okc has a team full of smart young guys but you watch them play. They just try to get fouled rather then score, and the refs are bailing them out more often then people realize. Not to mention his teammate westbrook cries for a foul every single time he attacks the paint (it's funny to see), but Durant showed in the WCF, after they stopped calling tick tack fouls how much he struggled to get his own shot. Still a great player imo, just a bit overrated.

I've always had love for the Mailman. I just prefer Duncan:P You won't ever hear me call Karl Malone an overrated basketball player.

Interesting... I didn't think you would like him because his last year (as a Laker) didn't end well. That was the only time I every rooted for the lakers, since I wanted him a get a ring.

I'm not really a fan of him as a person, from what I've heard of the way he is personally at least, and I wasn't ecstatic about him in a Laker uniform, but I rooted for him nonetheless that season. Didn't end well but he was hurt.

I agree D-Rose is overrated and this is a great post that sums up my thoughts on him. IMO CP3, D-will, and possibly Rondo are better than him. Rose is a great player though.

I fail to see how that is relevant to the topic at hand...
