[QUOTE="-Halftime-"]Gonna be touch football soon. I agree that Sanchez shouldn't have been in the game, though. After Geno's performance everyone knew that Mark would be the starter. Why risk him? But in the long run it means little, the Jets are gonna bomb regardless. Might as well let Geno take his lumps and see if he can play.monkeytoes61
And make him David Carr 2.0? I disagree. If he isn't ready, he shouldn't be thrown in.

I dislike the premise that you could somhow ''traumatize'' a young QB. Troy Aikman was thrown in a horrible situation in his rookie year. It didn't prevent him to become a great QB. It's more of a matter of you're not giving Geno a real chance to be effective this season. There's no good decisions here, but I think you migh aswell give Geno first string reps as much as possible. At least he has upside.

I think it's about the personality of the QB. Troy Aikman was tough as nails, he could handle the beating and losing 14 games his rookie season. Geno Smith has already shown some immaturity issues. With no running game and no receivers, this is destined to be a tremendous failure.

Now you're catching on.

What I don't understand is this: Why did they judge the kicking competition based on two practices? If you judge it throughout the offseason/preseason, Tavecchio wins. Easily.

Seriously. Crosby is the Sanchez of kickers.

just saying, since they're easily replacable, and even the worst ones still make most of their kicks.

Yet they refuse to replace Crosby. Honestly, they didn't give either replacement a fair chance.

Aikman was only sacked 19 times his rookie year.  He's not a good example of a young QB who succeeds despite early "trauma".

True, but wasn't he getting hit a lot anyway? And my point is that Carr wouldn't have been a good QB simply if his O-line would've protected him better that first year.

Soon you'll only be able to shove players to the ground. 120 combined points a game and the obliteration of all offensive records incoming.

Unless its a QB. You're not allowed to shove QB's per Suh vs. Cutler circa 2010. Yes I hold grudges.

The NFL got an amazing deal with what they settled with the retired players for today.  $765M is like 4 weeks of revnue for the league at this point, with legal fees going to and losing court could have easily cost them 3-4x as much along with a huge public relations hit.

That averages out to about $170k per player. I guess that's better than nothing bu it really doesn't seem like much.

That lawsuit could had been disastrous for the NFL, $765M is a blip in the radar. They took care of the past with this settlement and took care of the future with all the changes they have been implementing (so at least no credible lawsuits will be brought up). Still, the league might die if the violence left isn't enough to satiate some fans and/or the sports just die because parents steer their children away from it (which is what I think will happen).

It may die but it's already on the decline and would continue to be if these stories keep coming out and the NFL does nothing about them.  In addition what if we ended up with something truly disastrous like a brutal, preventable death on the field.  In addition to the legal cost I think it'd cause a large percentage of the population to reconsider how they feel, a lot of people feel the game is too ingrained in society, but I think enough instances of potentially, preventable on-field disasters could have football go the way of dueling or execution by hanging.  And no, I don't mean to suggest football is literally as bad as either those things, more that as society has progressed so have our standards of what a socially acceptable level of violence is.

The NFL is feeding on the desperation of poor neiborhoods. So you get kids with neglectful parents or desperate ones willing to send their kids play football because it's often seen as a way to get out of poverty (through getting a scholarship for example). But in fact most parents would like to see their kids play football, as it can act as a safe haven from deliquency.

I just hate how the quality of the games has obviously suffered. After all the recent changes in the last few years offense blew up and damn near every QB is throwing for almost 5'000 yards and 40 scores a year. It's why all the shattering of these offensive records doesn't impress me at all.

The athletes coming from broken homes storyline is overplayed, I couldn't find a report analyzing NFL player's backgrounds but here's one just from a few years ago about the NBA.  As you can see compared to others within the same demographic NBA players tend to come from better homes, with 34% coming from houses at or within 50% of poverty (as compared to 44% overall), those who grew up wih 2-parents are more likely to make it to the NBA than those who grew up with one, and Middle to Upper-Class black athletes are significantly more likely to make the NBA.  I can guarantee the numbers are even better for the NFL considering the fact that the league's background is predominately suburbanites and has a higher percentage of white athletes.  Obviously that's not to say all black people from urban areas are poor, but, statistically speaking, they are more likely to be poor than they're suburban and/or white counterparts.  As I said, I don't expect the game to go away, but if the NFL hadn't acted and continued to appear unconcerned about their ex-players committing suicide, dying early, becoming mentally ill, etc they would take a hit.

Seriously. Marino's 84 season will never be bested, and Fouts from 80-82 is a close second.

Chad Henne was the ultimate team player last year. Helping the Jags secure a higher draft pick.

That D is beyond trash

Well no shit, it's preseason D.

Nono. It's historically bad defense, like worse than Packers getting ran over 200 yards by Crappernick. Sean Payton and a safety aren't going to fix that defense

Last night's win proves the Jags are Super Bowl* contenders. Chad Henne will deliver us to the promised land**

*Super Bowl = Toilet Bowl

**promised land = #1 pick

Kickalicious worked out with the Packers. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000236786/article/havard-rugland-works-out-for-green-bay-packers If they're still not sold on Crapsby, why would they rig the "competition?"

I don't understand why Green Bay cut Vince. The Tebow one, I think everyone saw this coming. He was awful in the preseason. And you don't need 3 QB's.

Tebow's career will be a great "What if?" question. What could he have become if someone, anyone, really hitched their wagon to him and built an offense that suited his style.
