Rondo is a rather interesting PG and I would llike to hear people's opinion on him as a Basketball player (I.E don't care what you think about his personality).

Against the Hawks (game 3) he just got yet another playoff triple double after missing a game due to suspension. During the regular season he racked up 6 triple doubles (including the insane one vs. Knicks) which is 5 more than any other player in the NBA. He is one of the best defensive PGs and he seems to have improved his mid range game also.

On the otherhand, he is still not a huge threat offensively and from time to time misses open layups. To add to that he is still a bad free throw shooter. NBA advance statistics ranks him 21st among PGs, behind the likes of Goran Dragic, Jeremy Lin, Nate Robinson, Isaiah Thomas, etc.

http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/statistics?position=pg&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fnba%2fhollinger%2fstatistics%3fposition%3dpg

Personally, I think Rondo is a great PG, and the most versitle in the league. There is, however, a chance that he is a product of a system0

thoughts?

If he had a reliable shot and didn't gamble quite so much on defense, I think he would be the best guard in the league. Still an excellent player though.

Still think he's the 4th or 5th best PG in the league, if that. Won't change my mind till he develops any semblance of an offensive jumper. Could care less about his attitude either, but you didn't ask for that.

In no particular order besides CP3 and D-Will as 1 and 2 respectively 1.CP3 2. D-Will and then the next three would be any combination of Lowry, Westbrook, or Rose. Tony Parker, too. I do think Rondo is better than Nash and a few others. If he had a jumpshot he'd be top 5 easily. I mean, when the Lakers played them in the Finals a few years ago they just DARED him to take that 15 footer. Kobe played so far off of him and I think he only had like one great game in that series. I think that if someone just sags off of you you have to make them pay. I don't think such a simple strategy should cripple someones game like that, but it does with Rondo if he can't knock down that shot which he usually doesn't

I absolutely love him as a basketball player. Loved him at Nova and he was a late bloomer but when he was healthy he was having probably the 2nd best year for a PG besides CP3.

I guess he is from the Jason Kidd mold. I still like J-Kidd's prime better, but Rondo does rebound, make enough smart plays, and can score occasionally. I think he would be fighting for the number 2 spot on the PG leader boards if he could only learn to hit those midrange shots with regular success. I'm curious to see how he performs when he doesn't have 3 All-Star level jump shooters on his team. When I look at Nash still getting plenty of assists even though Amare, Joe Johnson, Marion, Bell, Richardson and company are not there anymore, you know it wasn't all about the talent surrounding him, but what he brought to the game. Rondo will soon be on his own in a couple years so lets see what happens in Boston then.

he is a great point gaurd one of the best today but he is not a #1 option type of player....

and thats what boston made him last year and this year....and thats why the boston celtics keep getting their butt kicked.pierce needs to be the leader and #1 option...not rondo.

rondo needs to learn he cant shoot for sh!t and just be happy to get 10 points....what he needs are assists, rebounds and steals not points.... him trying to go for 20 or 30 points is a joke and hurts the team.

Rondo is PG/C, isn't it?

he has the most assists of the C, and he has the most rebounds of the PG.

deuce4eva

I think he's more than just a product of the system. Like deuce4eva said, if he can get a more consistent jump shot and be a bit better overall offensively, he'll be in the mix for top PG in the league. As of right now though, I have him at 4 or 5 since he's not as complete as other PGs.

He is the best quarterback in the league. Is very confident and cocky just like every other basketball player out there. I love watching him play and I'm glad he is a Celtic. He might not be the best, but he is a premiere Point Guard in the NBA hands down. I would put him in the top 5 right now.

He is a decent player who gets over hyped because he is playing in Boston.

roulettethedog

I would have to totally disagree with that statement. Overhyped? No one claims he is the best in the league, but he definitely deserves to be be brought up in the conversation considering what he does bring to table. I'm sorry but he is unbelieveable in the playoffs, is consistent throughout the season, and as far as I'm concerned if you are calling him overhyped than obviously you never watch him play.

WOW, clearly you don't watch the Celtics enough. You do realize he led the league in assists, right? You also realize he had 6 triple doubles, that is 5 more than the next player. If he is able to score while put up the numbers in the assists and rebounds department there is no problem with that what so ever. And if you want to speak about the number one option, you could say Allen, Garnett, or Pierce and you wouldn't be wrong.

It's lucky because you know he's not usually going to make that kind of look. If Rondo beats you with deep twos and threes then you just have to tip your cap. Can he make that shot? Certainly. Do you expect him to make that shot with any regularity? Not at all.

Depend on the shot. That long 2 he hit is within his range (he's 4/7 in the playoffs and 43% in the regular season). That isn't world stopping, but it's not bad either. From a point per possesion standpoint that is about the league average.

Obviously he's not an ideal shooter, but Rondo's jumper has definitely improved this year. Ever since Reggie Miller called him while broadcasting a game, he seems to be making his jumpshots with semi regularity. Especially his midrange J from a few feet to the right or left of the free throw line.

I don't consider Rondo a star because I don't believe he can go to a terrible team and make them substanially better.

His offensive game is just such a crutch that you really need to fill in guys around him who can make plays, and of course Rondo will find them. Other than that, I view Rondo as a guy who really fits in well with that Boston Celtics team.

Oh yeah they need a facilitator, that would do wonders for that team and he does a little bit of everything such as rebounding. James Harden is a better point guard then Westbrook.

Rondo Harden Durant Ibaka Perkins I only ask because it seems people don't think Rondo can/should be 'the man', and on the Thunder he wouldn't need to be. Just curious about what others think

No because Rondo wouldn't have any bigs to work with. A lot of Rondo's success comes from KG, the Thunder have no offensive weapons down low. Would be an interesting scenario tho, plus I might add Westbrook is a far better shooter

Yeah he was shut down; only scored 44 points. He really needs to step it up for game 3.
