It's very close. I prefer Lebron just based on his size and strength alone. Both are fantastic players though. I'd like do see how MJ would have handled the zone defense alot of teams play now, and how Lebron would have handled the much more aggressive defense of the 80's and 90's. It's a very compelling comparison.wtf......google it, smh

I think you're the one who needs to google it. He never said James is better than Jordan. He said "may be".
he pretty much clowned his old teammate while the guy hes praising, beats his former team. All in one night. Cool.

He can use whatever qualifiers he wants, what he's saying remains the same. It would look pretty questionable (and probably hurt his credibility) if he outright said LeBron is a better player before he even gets his first ring so he didn't definitively state it. So now he looks slightly less crazy. If Kobe isn't as good as MJ (and he's not), then there's no way LeBron is, especially without the hardware. Jordan can play the numbers game as well, let's not forget that. He had a season in which he scored 32 PPG, 8 RPG and 8 APG. But Jordan's game transcends the numbers. And for Pippen to insinuate that Jordan is JUST a scorer is absurd. Jordan got it done at both ends of the court and is the greatest basketball player ever period. All I'll say for now is, Pippen is certainly wrong! Jordan is not the "best scorer to ever play the game".
Ok, at least he said "maybe" or "probably", depending on which qoute you read.

Pippen was a better defender as a forward. So was Michael Cooper.... So was Elgin Baylor... If you want to talk guards, Gary Payton, MJ, Joe Dumars, Kobe in his prime, Sidney Moncrief, Dennis Johnson, KC Jones, and Bruce Bowen were all better defenders. james, kobe and jordan are all great defenders.. its the offensive side that seperates them.

He's definitely the best player in the league. But he's not the best player of all time, and it's not even close. Michael Jordan is. The only players IMO that can even be discussed in the same convo as Jordan are Kareem and Magic.[QUOTE="i5750at4Ghz"][QUOTE="-Halftime-"]-Halftime-

That doesn't all of a sudden make them two of the greatest players ever. it's about accomplishments along with a mix of statistics. But when he's only played 8 years and never won one title, let alone 6? And doesn't nearly have the ridiculous numbers that someone like Jordan put up. You just can't put him there. Look at the guards MJ had to face in his era, compared to LeBrons. There is no contest.
Jordan survived in what was said to have been the toughest era in the NBA. Those players would make most of the player of this era look soft or D-League material and that's the truth.
My point is, Jordan survived and succeeded in a much tougher league while LeBron is benefiting from a much softer toned down NBA.
Also, in Mike's career , did he ever not show up in a big game? This guy would still play hard even being down by a bunch with 2minutes to go. I cant say the say for LeBron. Heck, I wont even get into the leadership role.
All in all, Pippen is just confirming to many, hes a bit jealous of his ex teammate, Michael Jordan.
This just sums it up for me. The greats that played throughout that era were amazing. There were so many amazing players back then. For Jordan to stand out and literally shut them down speaks to what he was. Also, Jordan knew how to finish a game. I'm certainly not calling James, who can't finish a game to save his own butt, the all time greatest player.Look at the guards MJ had to face in his era, compared to LeBrons. There is no contest.

I just find it amazing that for the last 3 yrs i've heard how Kobe was on his way to being better than jordan cause he was winning rings and finals mvp's etc. Then they get swept this year and it's like Kobe is an afterthought. Now the comparison goes to Lebron. At least with Kobe you can argue talent AND accomplishments to an extent. But Lebron has as many rings as i do and the comparisons are ALREADY on. The media is such prisoneers of the moment it's ridiculous. Pippen makes one comment and it's like the top story on sportscenter. I will never address a comparison to Jordan until you have a MINIMUM of 5 rings. You want to debate Kobe vs Michael? cool. At least there's some sort of case with that one. But Lebron vs Michael? come on now. Get at me in 6-7 yrs and MAYBE i will take what some of these people are saying seriously

jordan was a better scorer than lebron, lebron is a player that can definately one day be better than jordan just for the fact that he is a freak of nature and has a great all around skill set, for now i would say kobe is the closest you can get to jordans shooting ability and lebron is the closest athletically to jordan. jordan is still the best player to ever play the game in my opinion

1A and 1B. There's no wrong choice in that matter. Both MJ and Payton has the same records in defense, both with 9 all defensive first team and one defensive player of the year award.
But MJ has more steals, more blocks (considered the best shot-blocker for a guard).
I personally say MJ was probably the best offensive and defensive player of all time. So Pippen is wrong...MJ was the total package not LeBron.

To clarify, my 2nd statement was concerning my first one. I disagree with Pippen calling Jordan "the best scorer to ever play the game", then I realized he said "probably" or "maybe"....still disagree though.
I haven't commented on Lebron being greater than Jordan yet.
Concerning Lebron "probably, maybe being or at some point greater than Jordan...or whatever Pippen said.
Lebron is not yet "greater" than MJ, he needs more accomplishments for that. Talent wise Lebron is easily comparable to MJ. MJ didn't get the post up game until he had too, after losing some of the explosiveness. So I'm not going to hold that against Lebron and say lack of a post up game is one of the reasons Lebron is not as complete as MJ. Lebron still has his expolsiveness and I've seen signs of a post up game coming.
IMO, Lebron is just more of a force to deal with than MJ was, considering Lebrons size, quickness, strength, court vision, improved shooting ability (better than MJ from 3pt range), improved defense....I just watched Lebron "D" up one of the quickest, strongest, atheletic, expolsive point guards ever...D. Rose., not sure Jordan could do that in his 8th season. If I remember correctly Jordan began to have trouble with smaller, quicker guards at that point.
Also, I think Gary Payton was a better man to man defender than MJ, and would also have to consider others,.... Sidney Moncrief, Walt Frazier, Michael Cooper, K.C. Jones, Scottie Pippen, Bruce Bowen....etc.
Was MJ even the best defender on his team after Pippen arrived and got established...just asking?
Basically I don't view MJ as the best offensive player or best defensive guard ever.
How were they close?ChuteboxBoth brought their teams to the NBA championship. Neither series went to game seven or anything (not even close Iverson out in 5, LeBron in 4) but they brought their teams there.
Without question LeBron is the better all around defender.
Jordan is the best when it comes to shooting guard but he was limited to point guards, shooting guards, and some small forwards.
LeBron on the other hand can match up with anyone on the floor and shut them down. The Chicago series showed off his talents because he was able to be put on Boozer and Rose and shut both of them down.
LeBron has the kind of versatility on the floor that no one's ever had before.
Jordan is the greatest ever but LeBron is on his way to make it a harder argument
