10 reasons why I got a PS3 instead of an xbox 360

First off I have nothing against the xbox 360 and if i had the money i would gladly have both. I am no PS3 fanboy, I just got the system for the following reasons: 1. Online is free - I know people complain about it but the simple fact is it is free. And i dont complain about something when it is free. It does the job and provides me with everything i need. I have never had any online gaming issues because of lag etc. so why complain when i am getting a service i dont have to pay a premium for. 2. Looks - Personal opinion it looks alot better than an xbox. Sharper, cleaner, more eye catching. 3. xbox's break - This may be a personal thing but i have had alot of mates that have had the red ring of death, and ended up getting a ps3. So why buy something that is not reliable. 4. GT5 - As a keen racing game fan this s another reason. I know it has been delayed and delayed but thats not bothering me. 5. G25 - Best racing wheel out there and only for the PC and PS3 6. Controller - It just feels a lot more ergonomic to hold than an xbox 7. God of war 3 - Enough said 8. Uncharted 1 and 2 - Many either love or hate these game. I love them. 9. For people that got theirs early on PS2 compatibility 10. Blu-Ray - Still expensive for the films generally but the output quality is perfect. Interested to know why people went down the 360 route. But personally i think this will be the year of the PS3.

Opinion is "I'm used to it". Fact is microsoft spent a considerable amount of time and money refining the current controller that the xbox uses. Sony has been using the same design since the dualshock. And yes, ergonomics is a science.

Most of those points seem fairly reasonable except this one:

The Xbox 360 is a far more ergonomic controller and this is not up for opinion. You may like the PS3 controller more for whatever reasons but based on actual design principles, and the very principle of ergonomics, the Xbox 360 is a more ergonomic controller than the PS3 and imo regardless of how exactly one chooses to hold the controller it is more comfortable for controlling the vast majority of games across most genres.

On topic, I decided on PS3 too, after owning a 360 for a while. Thing is, I felt like I was missing out on a lot more must-have titles by not having the Sony console. Yeah, people will come in here and mention a lot of games, most recently ME2, that I'm missing out on. I own the PC version but that doesn't matter here, because it's System Wars. Really it all boils down to opinion.

I went down the "both" route, I know a lot of people don't have the money for that, but as a gamer it's really the best of both worlds.

I got one for 2 reasons games and dvd/blu-ray player. Those are the only 2 reasons you need though.

1. I wasn't spending $150 on a ps2 just to have it break a year later, and I didn't want to fiddle w/ multiple consoles.

2. Sony was getting rid of BC on the ps3.

3. I was eventually going to buy one anyway, and had $500.

Well, owning both I can say for certain that the Xbox 360 is better in every aspect. Game library, online service, controller, ease of use, etc. Pretty cool, I guess I should start a thread about this and try and argue them as fact.

i got my xbox as it was cheaper than a ps3 a few years ago

That is my problem right there, I am disappointed that I have spend the extra cash to buy an old model PS3 just so I can have backwards compatibility. But, I have never owned a Sony console, so it is worth it to play all those great PS2 games.

probably because reason 1. Also there's only a hand full of crappy games that won't work on BC ps3's. Graphical issues are more common, but it's mostly minor stuff.

probably because reason 1. Also there's only a hand full of crappy games that won't work on BC ps3's. Graphical issues are more common, but it's mostly minor stuff.

The only PS2 games I want to play are ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, both God of Wars, and Metal Gear Solid 3. So why not just get a PS2? Because the PS2 doesn't play PS3 games, that's why.

Good choice, but bad points.

I could think of much better ones.

Edit:

Decided to make a list.

1. Blu-Ray. Never use it. Nice to have.

2. Bigger hardrive. 120 GB with the BASIC MODEL.

3. Wi-fi. I wouldn't be able to get online without it. Not paying $100.

4. Red ring of death/other failures. It's pretty much fixed now, but it still happens more than you would think.

5. Better exclusives (In my opinion). Uncharted, God of War, Modnation, inFamous, and more.

6. More power. I don't want to hear the 360 has more power; It doesn't.

7. Controller. I used to like the 360 controller better, because I use it for PC gaming sometimes, but not I definitely like my PS3 controller better after getting used to it.

8. Free online. I would NEVER pay for online service, I don't care how cheap. It's just the fact of getting a bill in the mail, or running to the store to get a card.

9. PSN Store. MUCH BETTER currency system. Fact. Older games, and most of the time free DLC. Such as Batman AA.

10. Compatibility. I could just find any micro USB wire, and start charging my controller. Also, I can watch videos, listen to music, and view pictures off any computer in the house wirelessly. Sony never screws you over for buying extra stuff.

*I was going to stop at 10, but I thought of one more.*

11. Blue Tooth. I can use my Blue Tooth headset for my phone/computer, and just turn it on and start playing. Better quality, more durable, more comfortable, and the same cost as a 360 headset.

Also, I dare someone to make one about the 360 being better than the PS3, that isn't all opinions.

8. BC with old xbox games.

9. 3 year warranty

10. The day that will live in infamy. (I know... it was 65 years ago. However, i will still support an American corporation over any foreign corporation)

As a note. Ive bought a ps3 since then. I still play my xbox way more.
