in everyday life, sure $100 isn't much and doesn't get you far. However, when comparing products...that is quite the difference
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Its context. $100 isn;t a lot of money depending on what you plan to use it for. The difference between 2 houses? Nothing. The difference between 2 consoles? Its pretty big considering that consoles historically until this gen did most of their sales at $200 bucks.
How is the Xbox One too expensive? If you can afford a $400 console, why not a $500?
I mean, I have money for all the next-gen consoles and the Wii U, so it's not an issue. But if you live in a developed country with food, housing, electricity, and internet, how is $100 a big deal? I mean, you could make $20,000-40,000+ by just working, whats $100 really?
I'm just not getting how the whole price is a big deal.

100 bucks is a huge deal in here man. There was a thread not too long ago that had people complaining about buying AA batteries for their xbox controller. If you cant afford some batteries, then you shouldn't be playing video games. im not disagreeing that the xbox needs rechargeable controllers right out of the box, but if you cant afford a couple batteries, then find a new hobby.
People on here don't like Kinect, not that it's more expensive.
If it was more expensive and had twice the power, they'd be happy...
more expensive, weaker, spy cam..
and i should pay $100 more for the privilege of such failure? no thanks

Well then it would be worth the asking price.

$100 is quite a difference when comparing two products. The PS4 and Xbox One are so close in number of features that price becomes a very important aspect when figuring out which one to get. If the two play most of the same games and do most of the same things, why wouldn't you get the cheaper one?
MonsieurX
it will depend on the kinect. the kinect could be a big revolution, or a gimmick like the wii. we will have to see.
First kinect wasn't a revolution, don't see how the 2nd will be The specs on the Kinect 2.0 are pretty amazing, just going to take some creative dev to put it to good use without it feeling gimmicky. Controlling things with easy gestures I am ok with, jumping around like a maniac just to do something that would easier to do on a gamepad is not my idea of fun.yeah $100 is not that much if you get a better console. the thing is, you wont get a better console for the money. you get some Kinect magic for that money, if that's the sort of kinky stuff you're into.

This... honestly, the two consoles are nearly identical, especially now when MS changed many of their policies to mirror the PS4. The price is definitely an important factor, in this case, $100 makes a difference.
Life doesn't work that way dummy. If you can get a better product for $100 less, then the more expensive product completely loses its value. Except to morons of course.
Douevenlift_bro
This is a very good point.
And I suppose even if someone considered the XB1 and PS4 equal quality products, the lower price instantly increases the value of PS4.
$100 IS a lot of money for a system with 0.53 less TFLOPS than it's competitor.
NOT TO MENTION that XBL GOLD is $10 more a year than PS+.
Face it - Xbox Gaming is just more expensive.
However, I can compromise. Drop the Kinect and take $100 off the price and I'm interested in Xbox gaming.
When i see people at gas stations buying 2 energy drink, chips, candy etc... I think what a waste of money, if you want to shovle crap into your belly go for it, but at least buy in bulk go to sams or costco. Buying drinks and snacks is the biggest waste of money EVER. You could save so much even buying 2 lieters at wallmart.
That's what bugs me when people complain about money and video games they waste so much money nickel and diming.
[QUOTE="MonsieurX"]100$ is 2 gamesavigeilits 1 game
It's 1 new game, plus a year of PS+, which includes 9 more free games. (give or take the tax nonsense, depdning on where you live of course)
I agree, $100 is nothing when I'm deciding on a bit investment like a console. Price was never a factor to me.
How do you know these are the same people? Many of those gas station purchases are on impulse. Buy a huge jug of an energy drink then you have to pour it into a smaller bottle to take in the car and you'll also need an ice chest to keep it cold...too much workWhen i see people at gas stations buying 2 energy drink, chips, candy etc... $100, well that is 64 pounds....
That could get me a crate of beer/ a new set of undies for my lady/ 10+ Steam games/ FOOD.
[QUOTE="avigeil"][QUOTE="MonsieurX"]100$ is 2 gameslowkey254its 1 game 1 retail game, 2 indie downloads 2 PC retail games or at least 10 indie/on sale/somewhat old steam games.
Well if $500 is only $100 more and not a big deal, why not make it $600? That would only be another hundred before accessories and subscriptions. Chump change. Praise Microsoft brother. Bow to The Lord and Savior. How is the Xbox One too expensive? If you can afford a $400 console, why not a $500?

Completely agree with you OP. And it's not the same as saying 100$ has no value. A console is an investment for the future, and assuming all goes well, the next gen console lifecycle will be at least as long as the current one. I can't even begin to imagine the amount of money I spent on my 360 since it was released. In hindsight, whether the 360 was 100$ more or less at launch, is pretty much irrelevant and negligible in the grand scheme of things. I will gladly pay that extra 100$ for Kinect 2.0, seems like a pretty big improvement over the first one, and at least MS is trying something different, I want to support that kind of innovation.
Now for someone who really is not interested in Kinect, I would not try to convince them that the X1 is still a great choice and they should swallow that 100$, they would be better off considering the more traditional type of console, such as the PS4. However, sometimes you don't know if you will like something until you try it. And, my main point is, that 100$ should not be the only factor in your decision, that is all.
Luckily though, that $100 might be enough to obstruct them from many of the shitty policies and money scams surrounding the brand.Completely agree with you OP. Is not if what you are getting is worth teh price..
In this case the PS4 is stronger and $100 cheaper,so yeah that make the xbox one not worth those extra $100,i am a PS3 owner since day 1,and while my PS3 was even more expensive than the xbox one,it was worth it.
In fact that argument is lol you pay electricity, internet and many more things so yeah not every one can have the luxury of paying $100 more on a console that is over priced for those same reasons.
[QUOTE="Cherokee_Jack"]Yeah well I buy $100 donuts. Why, I don't know, but $100 is not a lot of money, so why not?AutoPilotOnI don't think 100 dollars is a lot considering its not something you replace or should have to few years to come.
25% is a large premium for a product that does not have 25% more features.
If the PS4 was $100 more than the XBone it would be no big deal for most people on here, but since it's the other way around, well it's a lot of money.

It's not enough to effect my choice. I am still up in air but price has nothing to do with it.What launch games are real box office besides Forza? $100 for a Kinect that ms is still betting. Theres so many more options you can choose your Benjamin on...
The issue has to do with what the X1 is offering for that extra $100. $500 wouldn't be a bad price if it meant superior hardware and not an accessory that would flop without a forced bundle scheme. You don't want Kinect? Too bad. You are buying it whether you like it or not.If the PS4 was $100 more than the XBone it would be no big deal for most people on here, but since it's the other way around, well it's a lot of money.
