Wow so many people defending AA batteries... Don't you understand what's happening here? The motherfawking controller is ONE HUNDRED FIFTY DOLLARS and it does not include rechargeable batteries. It doesn't matter if its AA, AAA or another kind of rechargeable batteries. What matter is for $150 f*cking dollars, it should and must include a pair of quality rechargeable batteries.

the scuff versions go for over 200, aren't even wireless, have less features, and lower quality. 150 is a steal. Oh and they are pretty much sold out already, glad i pre-ordered mine months ago

It being sold out means something? CoD is also selling out and its a POS of series... A bunch of dumbasses will buy this controller in hope of their "skills" improving with this Made in Chine product that will explode in under a year. Easy milkage.

It being sold out only means 1 thing, that people who were interested in it, didn't find it overpriced. This controller is the highest quality most durable controller ever made. Unlike the DS4 with wearing thumbsticks, sticky/failing bumpers and triggers, and poor battery life.

From my experience, people who say plug it in, clearly don't have kids and pets. You want to run a wire for your dog to run past and rip the controller out of your hand lol or even worse have your kid trip over it? nah I'll pass. Wires are so last gen

good thing about the ps4 is when you turn it off it continues to charge. maybe MS will do that next gen.

and this is how you can tell people don't own both. they make completely wring comments. If anything the PS4 needs to fix theirs. see my PS4 will charge my DS4 while in standby, but it won't charge my PS4 headset. I use my XB1 to charge my PS4 headset in standby. Not only that but it can charge both the DS4 and PS4 headset and have my external plugged in. my PS4 can't do that.

@tushar172787: Well, your respectfulness was short lived. Last time we talked was about Forza and you were pretty respectful and I even changed my tune partly due to an actual conversation happening.

But this "delusional bubble" dumb shit.....

Either way....I can buy a cord for $10 and play on my DS4 all day long.

I don't care....buy a $150 controller that uses batteries.

FYI the controller can be plugged into any outlet, cell phone-microcharger, usb port. Pretty convenient.

That is true....if the outlets are in the right spot that is a good idea.

Invest in Eneloops + good charger that can revitalize batteries properly. Been using them for years.
MS hardware though, not convinced this will be quality that I want to pay for.

I guess those who are complaining about how this $150 elite controller didn't include rechargeable batteries also complained about a $500 system didn't even include a proper real headset and a longer charging wire last gen, right. Heck I guess they also complained this gen since their $400 system still didn't even include a proper real headset and a longer charging wire that cost only $5 to $10 right. Anyone got a reason for this.

For $150 the thing should be rechargeable straight out of the box.

Think I might just splurge on a steam controller, gyro aiming is actually pretty precise and the customizing you can do with that thing is just unreal.

All things being equal you would be right but since the quality of PS4 controllers is garbage then that comparison doesn't work. Its like comparing a Mercedes (XB1 controller) to a Mitsubishi (PS4 controller).

I been getting free AA batteries at my job for the past 12 years and I haven't buy any batteries since then. Having said that, I like using AA on the controller since they last very very long time then the average charger batteries.

headset? lol. I just use my iPhone headphones on my ps4. they are extremely high quality and sound as good if not better than ay of those dumb nerdy $150 headsets. my ps4 controller needs 10 mins of charging every 3 days or so. and I can enjoy games in 1080p like its 2015. Not 720p like its 2006.

you have proved with this post that you are delusional..

am i supposed to be correcting you with every post?

1. you said that a battery pack is expensive and costs 30$, it does not. stop deflecting from that

2. i wonder how you didn't give an inflated price of the PS4 cord?

3. good, so now you connect you DS4 all day long and it is essentially a wired controller

4. internal batteries don't last forever, one day the battery life will get so bad that a) you will have to plug it in forever or b) buy a new controller (you don't want that happening with a 150$ controller, do you?)

5. meanwhile, i can play on a controller for 1 week while on a DS4 controller, 6 hours at most, then charge. wired vs wireless. and you may/may not have a power connection anywhere near where you're gaming if you're in a large hall.

6. meanwhile if the batteries become old, i can just get another pair for 5$, instead of spending 60$/150$.

7. can you give me a list of the custom controllers at that price that come with an internal battery/rechargeable battery pack?

Honestly, people defending this as if it's a good idea is just system wars to a T.

So instead of never having to buy batteries and occasionally plugging in a lead, you'd rather spend extra money and fumble with batteries every few hours or buy rechargeable ones and fumble with them even more often? Instead of just plugging your pad in somewhere?

Nah. You just wont admit your company is giving you something inferior. There's a reason a lot of people buy those rechargeable packs you slot in that function the same as a playstation pad.

For only slightly more than $150 I got:
2 DS4 controllers
lengthy USB cable
& Steam Link

Now, with the 1 (sometimes 2) DS4 controllers & a simple USB hub already in my home, we can play 3 (sometimes 4) player co-op PC games in the living room on the couch.
We tried it. It was AMAZING.
Just saying. Think about how much $150 is and what you could do with it.

This has gotta be the dumbest complaint about Xbox out there. It taking AA batteries is a superior feature to Playstation controllers. With Xbox when your batteries go dead ya can just grab a couple more and you're right back at it. With Playstation ya gotta plug in a cord, switch controllers, or you're done. And if and when the pack built into a PS controller stops working that's it, time to chuck it in the garbage. And Playstation's battery life is shorter too. And for those saying "Derp, ya can play PS with a cord as long as you want" ya can do that with Xbox too.

I got PS4 a couple of weeks ago and when I opened it up and saw the charging cable I laughed. How in the hell am I gonna be able to play with that thing plugged in? It's worthless. So right away I had to order a usable one from Amazon. I just play PS4 with the cable in all the time cuz it runs out of juice in wireless mode so quickly that there's little point in even using the feature.

The fact that the PS4 controller has to be plugged in at all means it's NOT convenient at all. That is the point. The XB1 controller is truly wireless while the PS4 controller is wireless for 4 hours then has to be plugged in.

@EG101: how is that not convient at all ? Buying a battery station sounds more convient ? Manging batteries from time to time sound convient ? Going to a friends jouse where there low on batteries and tou left you battery station home sounds more convient? You tried tho. At top of all this the ps4 has a wireless charging station aswell.

@Livecommander:

Yes buying a $15 rechargeable battery pack, always having fresh batteries ready and always being wireless is far more convenient then having to recharge the controller every time it dies or having to plug in the controller while using it. Hell you can buy a $30 pack of Eneloop 2100's that comes with a Charger, 10 - AA batteries and 4 - AAA batteries that can recharge 2000 times. This should last about 10 years and you'll have 8 Spare batteries waiting on you plus 4 AAA's for other remotes.

I don't know how good or bad the controller is.. But what? Why in the hell would any one want a internalized battery in a device that shows absolutely no benefits from the prior, in which if the said battery goes bad you either have to take the entire thing apart (which the controller wasn't designed to have done to it after production) or buy a new controller.... AA's are superior in every way, you can get rechargeable, they are used for a assortment of OTHER things in your house, they are cheap and readily available.... With how long these batteries last in the controller on top of easily getting rechargeable ones, I don't see why any one would want to choose that over Sony's solution in this regard..

What the hell does a DS4 have to do with an Elite?

At the end of the day:

Elite + P&C kit = $150+$25=$175 or something like Eneloop set with charger =$30 thus $180.

Playstation 4 Professional controller with similar customizations(still inferior because you get only one custom config unlike the Elite): ~$200

I have absolutely no problem with the battery options for the Elite controller, i'll 100% be getting one because i game on both the Xbone and PC (PC mainly).

If Sony offered a similar high quality controller i'd absolutely get one of them as i'm on my fourth DS4 atm because the quality is just atrocious.

My latest one is one of those 20th Anniversary grey pads, and straight out of the box the back section didn't fit properly... let that sink in. It shifts and creaks and wobbles when the vibration motors are going...

This. The controller is even cheaper while still offering more versatility than the competition.

The only thing that remains to be seen is quality because both MS and Sony have lowered the bar this gen.

why are you comparing a normal controller with an elite?

a scuf controller with the same features will set you back 200$ without the battery pack.

enjoy your wired controller in 2015 with neither wired nor wireless benefits

@DocSanchez: I love how you describe putting batteries into a controller, like its the most complicated thing you've ever had to do in your life.

Biggest reason batteries are better. YOUR CONTROLLER IS ALWAYS WIRELESS! Pretty simple huh, don't have to worry about kids, pets, or people walking between you and your TV. So as you put it fumbling around with batteries isn't that bad now is it.

Besides all the reviews I've been reading say it's the best controller ever! Can't wait to get one.

You so realize for the price of this controller and a battery pack and batteries....you could get regular controllers a cord and just switch them out: as in use one while the other is charging.

So...wireless nonetheless.

Sorry to upset you with the truth.

you have yet to give me links:

1. give me a controller that costs 150$ with the same features and comes with a battery pack.

2. give me a link where a rechargeable battery pack costs an over priced >30$

you realize for the price of this controller you're not getting extra features and build quality.. something like that cannot be "added" on a normal controller

@mr_huggles_dog: You do realize this controller has better build quality, interchangeable analog sticks, and Dpad, 4 additional slots on the back that you can remap to whatever button you like. You can go into the accessories app and change the sensitivity and dead zone of the analogs and set up the controller with 2 different mappings and switch between them. Also make your tigger hair triggers.

Compared to a Scuf controller your getting a great price on this controller.

If you don't see value in it that's your opinion and perogiative. I already have 2 other Xbox One controllers. I want a 3rd and the Xbox One elite controller will be all mine no one else's to use :) so what's an extra $90 if the controller has everything I want and more. The reviews are making the decision that much easier!

Yep, it needs AAs and it's SO MUCH BETTER FOR IT. Seriously, WHY would anyone want a sealed internal battery over Eneloops? WWWHHHYYYYYYYYY. Rechargable AAs are INFINITELY BETTER. I get one to two WEEKS of charge time per pair of 'Loops. If you want a crappy, sealed battery, buy a PS4. Otherwise, leave my Xbox One's controllers alone.

thats good news. I always i have loads of AA batteries in the house.

changing batteries once every couple of weeks is far less hassle than having to plug in a USB lead and recharge every few hours.

Not really. Recharging batteries has more steps required than charging a controller via the console.

1. remove batteries

2. place them into the cradle.

3. charge.

4. put back into the controller.

vs

1. plug controller into USB connected to the console.

2. charge.

3. remove controller fully charged.

If you just leave the controller plugged in when you're watching netflix it will always be charged all without having to remove the batteries. I hate to nit pick but saying charging via USB is a HASSLE is a gross exaggeration. About as bad as the infomercials that show people in black and white who don't know how to cut a tomato or use a blender.

This is also a good time to mention that the Wii U pro controller has 80 hours of battery life on one charge. EIGHTY HOURS. What are these other controllers doing wrong?

Or, just get rechargable set that has a charging cradle that goes with the included batteries. A sealed battery is always worse. ALWAYS.

By now I'd think it's obvious it's a design choice. Some like it, others don't. Can't please everyone.

Personally like my rechargeable AAs I can swap out.

Internal batteries are the worst, especially if you can't easily replace them. Each time you charge the battery it's longevity goes down. This is unavoidable and happens with every rechargeable battery.

So what happens to your controller if you're playing for long periods of time? It dies and then you have to plug it in or stop playing to recharge it. Yeah sounds like a real winner to me. I hate the battery life of my DS4 and it should never be defended.

Cows are so mad at this controller. It's being called the best controller available and cows are hating it.

I get the whole "just use rechargeables" argument but really for $150 there's no reason it can't come with a battery pack built in. I mean this thing is supposed to be a premium item, hence the name ELITE. The cost alone screams "high end." So yes there is a way around using batteries but for the price it should not need them. Not for $150. This thing is about half the cost of an xbox one on sale at dell. HALF.

But then MS can't sell you those charging packages, you know a USB charger plus a Battery pack.

Its ridiculous that you are supposed to by a separate battery pack just to charge your controller.

Even Nintendo moved on to battery packs. Microsoft is the last one standing with this battery nonsense. And ya know what? I was okay with it in the regular controller but in the ELITE? Their premium high cost controller for the most hardcore of gamers doesn't come with it? And this controller is amazing. Sony needs to make one for the PS4. But not with batteries.

So when the internal battery dies/stops holding a charge on your version of the Elite controller, what would you expect consumers to do, buy another?
